David Maxwell Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 which always made me curious why Chrysler Corp decided not to put trim there. RobertKB Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Wrong hubcaps and the convertible top is strange. Fender spear does not suit the car but probably from a Dodge. Quote
greg g Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Is it me or are the pictures out of whack. It looks like the windshield is chopped. the center bar looks short. Maybe thats why the top looks funky. The wheels look like they ar 14 inch or even 13's. but it does look solid overall, just wierd. Quote
Captain Neon Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 From the woodgrained dash and the top of the windscreen, I'd say that this is a chopped coupe. The angle of the windscreen made me wonder if it was really a convertible, but a chop job. It may be a fun little car, but I doubt that it is worth the trouble to pull out of Colombia. Quote

Robin (UK) Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 (edited) I'd vote that it's a genuine convertible. The doors are correct, and so is the windshield header. It looks like the top has been fitted incorrectly, in order to give a bigger rear window area, so with the top up the proportions are all wrong. The front screen height looks correct (it's 12" on the convertible/woody and 14" on all P15 hard tops). The rear fender side trim is wrong. So are the hubcaps. And the sill plates. There's also an extra piece of trim on the hood, under the ornament. Also, the door garnish molding chrome trims aren't correct on a convertible. So... quite a few extra bits of bling, but the front fender 'special deluxe' badges are missing. It clearly needs a bit of work, but it's going to make a nice car for someone. Happy bidding! R. Young Ed Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 I saw this car on ebay the other day. I agree with Robin that it looks like a genuine convert with a bad top. The pictures that show the roof down show it not all the way down which makes me think it is too big and doesnt go down all the way. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Looks like wrong top bows and newer wheels too. It might be a case of "use what ya got". Quote
John Reddie Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 I'm sorry but that top is whacked:eek:. John Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 18, 2009 Author Report Posted December 18, 2009 (edited) Top isn't right - too tall (at least in the rear), does not fold down right, may be wrong bows. Hubcaps not right, and look closely at the wheels. Who knows what they're from. Windshield is ok.....correct for the car. Judging by the license plate, I'd say this car was brought here from Bogata at some point. Which would probably explain about make-do stuff on the car. Edited December 18, 2009 by BobT-47P15 Quote
claybill Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 IT IS a convertible!! it has convert w/wiper towers. bill Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 What is with the big hole in the top? Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted December 19, 2009 Report Posted December 19, 2009 Rear fender mouldings look like 1946-8 Chrysler- those are way too rare and valuable to put on a Plymouth. I want em. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 19, 2009 Author Report Posted December 19, 2009 What is with the big hole in the top? My best professional estimate/guesstimate is: it needs a new top. Quote

When I worked at Carriage Works one the guys put a top on a MGA that ended up looking like that. He put the top up start from the top up , then started gluing the fabric on the bows one by one. When he got to the last two one will cross over the other one. One is taller than the other one, (thus the down hill effect). OT a bit ..... On Alpha Spider the last two bows are realatively the same length but if you cross the the top won't go all the way down. I won't tell you how I know that!! ps. the thing that I know from experience, is that when you put a new top on a car. One should lossen all the adjusting bolts. This makes the top sit as low as possible. Then after the top is put on and the sun and wind allows it to stretch. You have adjustment to make it tight again. (The bows may be adjusted as high as they will go ) Also this top is not canvas, and it looks like the old material has shrunk drastically. Jr. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 19, 2009 Author Report Posted December 19, 2009 You got something against duct tape? Have used duct tape many a time for many a thing. I think I would have used the black tape for that top repair. You know, two of a musician's most indespensable tools are duct tape and those plastic milk cases. I used to paint them black.....to cover up the milk company name, and make them blend in with the rest of the equipment. Currently I don't use any milk cases, but ya never know when one might come in handy. Quote
WatchingWolf Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 Look at the back ground in those pictures.....I'd say they were taken IN Bogota Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 according to the questions and answers, the car is in Columbia..it will be shipped to Florida where it will be processed for a Florida title prior to going on forward to the new owner..or at least that is how I read it...expect about 2 months it seems for the process to US title...who knows from there..
