PatrickG Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009  this one is on ebay right now, is it just me or does it look like guy not know the term "measure twice" (hint: look at the difference in how much each front wheel sticks out past the fender) maybe its just the picture that makes the offset look different from side to side, but any way you look at it, that nova subframe does not belong under there! Quote
Normspeed Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 A sad ending to a whole lot of clip jobs. Even if they were symmetrical, the wheels just plain stick out too far. A different setback on rims might help, but who knows what else lurks under there. I bought a 218 motor for rebuilding, the owner had a nice 50 Plymouth 3 window coupe and he had subframed it with a Buick setup he claimed was the same as a Nova. Also added a 454. The whole setup was kinda creaky and scary. I'll stick with the old technology. Not to say there aren't some great subframe setups out there, but they gotta be done right to look right. Quote
aero3113 Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 I think you can tell how much it is off by looking at the rear wheels. Look how close the right rear is to the fender than look at how far in the left rear is set in from the fender. Quote
RobertKB Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 What a waste! Not only do the front wheels stick out too far but the car sits way too high also. Painted bumper looks bad and the grille treatment is no better. Sad. Quote
Rollie Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 GM a-holes should stick with messing up their own brand. Quote
dezeldoc Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Look at that pig iron on the dash with the gauges and switches in it and it will answer how the rest was put together! not to mention the colors are butt ugly! Quote
RobertKB Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 (edited) Here's a nice stock '50 Plymouth with the same body style. Now it is sweet! I love that colour! dezeldoc, where did you find a picture of the dash? I could see no link to the auction and I tried finding it on ebay. .jpg] Edited October 26, 2009 by RobertKB Punctuation Quote

greg g Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Says its a driver but I don't see a PA inspection sticker or a plate onthe car. Must be dog tracking really bad going down the road. Maybe the guys set up dirt track racers to trun left better than they turn right. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 GM a-holes should stick with messing up their own brand. Why would you say something like that? We have people here who have GM's, Ford's, Studibaker's, and other makes of vehicles, so why are we a-h's? Dennis:D:eek: My Garage. 48 Plymouth & 56 Chevy. Quote
desoto1939 Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 In the state of pa when you have it inspected the car tires can not stick out past the fender. ANy good qualified inspection shop should be not putting an inspection sticker onthis car. The way that some trucks and owners are getting away with this is to to put on the rubber mud flaps that bolt onthe the entire wheel well opening. This then extends the fender over the tire. This is to prevent stones and mud from being flung up into the air and sending crap into another car. I have seen so many hot rodded cars and truck with the extended tires and they have an inspection sticker. This was a slap on and the police are not catching this unsafe car. Rich Hartung Live in PA. Niel Hoback Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Same thing here in Indiana, Tires MUST be covered. Following something like that in the winter is a real pain. Quote
PatS.... Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 (edited) I notice the bids are coming in hot and heavy on this one!!!! (not one bid, 2 days to go, seller has very good feedback though)) Makes you wonder about how long allowing people to perform major modifications will last with crap like this hitting the roads. You would think that making it square and even would be basic but they just kept on building, maybe no one will notice? It's only an inch and a half, it'll be OK I wonder how the welds are. Notice the rear end isn't centered either!!! Scary stuff. Edited October 26, 2009 by PatS.... Quote
dezeldoc Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 I believe that is the 3rd time on ebay for it, i would not touch that with a 10 foot pole. Dennis i think what he is saying is don't cross breed, no sbc in a mopar. i still want to get a 68 camaro and put a 440/727 in it and take it to the chevy shows, that ought to excite them! Quote
Young Ed Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 There's a guy at the one car show I go to who keeps saying he's going to put a 440 in his 57 chev. I wish he'd do it that would be neat Quote
greg g Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 There is a guy around here with a /6 i his F 100. He said he came that way and he was going to swap in a 5 liter from a Mustang, but he says it rus so well ad gets great mileage so he's leaving it and using the 5.0 for something else. Quote

I've owned vintage mopars since 1971, and drive them daily. One is a '40 ply with a 350/700R4/10bolt. If that makes me a a**h, then I'll get in line. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 but guys...look close..you getting a genuine Hurst shifter sticker in the deal... Quote
Captain Neon Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 As much as I am concerned about the safety of the vehicle, the "custom upholstery" leaves me cold. It makes the blankets that I throw over my '46 four door's seats look tighter and more worksmanship like than what ever he did. A friend from HS would refer to his door panels as very friendly, they wave at every one. I hate the instrument cluster worse. I've seen better temporary repairs here at the plant. It breaks my heart to see what this guy did to that poor poor car. I wouldn't give him $1000 for that car, and that would be for the used Kragers and the usable body panels. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 this is the front stance of the 51 Suburban with the Dakota front clip..thi is with engine and all installed so height is good to go also...oh yeah...this is the Dakota rear gear installed Quote

Must have been subframed with the big power that was in there? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 no..the big butt coupe still has the original frame...it does have the R&P upgrade, discs, relocated shock mounts, alternate sway bar..modern column..list goes on.. as with the entire shop, outdoors and fleet of cars..they have ALL taken a back seat to the house remodel..
