I have the chance to pick up one of the '51 Plymouth Suburban 2 door. How rare is this thing, would it be worth the investment? I could get this for around $6500.00 also considering a partial trade of my '50 Deluxe, not sure if that is a good idea or not. Any input or opinions would be helpful.

Thanks. Rob, up in washington state.

Rob,

I don't know their production numbers but you might call Neil Riddle in Seattle ((206) 265-6534) because I think that's his daily driver. He's also a great source of reasonably priced parts.

Don't know about the actual production numbers, but I have seen less than a dozen out and a bout at shows and such. Plus being a 2 door wagon is a bit unusual nowadays.

I would think the 2 door suburban is pretty rare compared to your deluxe. I really don't think you can go wrong with that deal. I don't ever remember seeing one at a show or cruise, and I bet I can count on one hand how many I might see in my lifetime. IMO go for it!! You can always find another deluxe again if you find yourself missing it, I doubt you will find another suburban.

They are not cars you see every day I had been looking for a while. Finally found my 52 suburban about 6 months ago.

So I would say if you have the money to spend get it.

Not sure how many members here have them I would guess maybe a 1/2 dozen. I have one I know Tim Adams and Reg Evans have one. I met a new member the other day sunset dart who has a customized one and I guess a few other I am not aware of

I would go for it, if it were me... the wagons are cool and worth more in the long run imho than a more-door '50...

I've got a complete original 50 model Suburban for sale for $2000. It needs total restoration, but "ran when parked" three years ago. It's a pretty solid car from Colorado, some rust in the floors that previous owner attempted to repair. Some rust in rockers, which they all have. All there, seats redone in a pinkish-red fabric, nice but hard to look at. Could be a nice car with time, money, and effort.......near Orlando, Florida. Delivery available for a fee.

I love my Suburban. I get so many people asking what year or just what the heck is that? People have guessed Rambler, Dodge, Ford, and a bunch of other brands. A two door Mopar wagon was on my top 3 wish list and the first I came upon in running condition at an affordable price. Best money I ever spent.

I do have one as old mopar said. I took some pics of it in my shop, the rear fenders are not on and the hood is not on either, but you can see the top is chopped 4 inches and the posts were canted forward.

There's a pretty nice looking one except for aftermarket wheels here for 3800 and a 51 belvedere for 3k. Ah if only one wasn't broke......

Bob VanBuskirk in Indy has a pink and white 54 wagon....pretty sharp.

Back in the 1970s I had a 54 wagon with factory overdrive.

Sold it to a guy who then let it sit under a carport for 25 years or so....

and the weather ruined a real decent old car. He then sold it to an

old car and parts dealer, who in turn re-sold it to someone up towards

Kansas City. Hopefully it will get fixed up and returned to the road.

There is one suburban running around this area......it is owned by a

guy over in Kansas. A '50 model I thinkStill has a flathead 6, with air conditioning and

new gauges added. A mild street rod. That's the only one I know of.

Here's my early 1949 with the rare split back window and the original oxidized maroon paint.

Reg, I suspect the roof rack may be a bit later vintage.......ya suppose??

Not sure they came new with that.......but might have.

This slightly modified wagon was for sale (and may still be) just outside Tulsa, OK

at an antique store. Has had some side trim added---which I actually like.

Do not know the asking price or if it's now running.

I attended the GoodGuys show in Nashville a couple summers ago.

With all those cars that turned out, there was NO early 50s suburban

there. The closest thing was this 56 Plymouth wagon.

So......yeah, those early wagons ARE kinda rare.

Here is the wagon I got this Summer. Not the one I started this thread about, but a different '50. This one is the same color as the '50 Deluxe I have, but with a Birch White lower half & trim..could it be a "spring special?'..don't know if they even offered that with the wagons? Anyhow, here is a picture of my latest & one of the greatest.

The Suburbans 1949-52 were all solid color. Seems like the light green was on many of them. Neil Riddle highlighted his with sort of white in the window area with the rest being a light blue. Your car looks great and the fact that it came from Washinton State is even better. My Suburban came from Washington State and had little rust and the rubber about the windows was still good.

That wagon has had a hard life. No it's not a "Spring Special". It was in ballard years ago and was driven over a six foot concrete drop off! I know that car very well! Had some rust issues. It was painted with Ditzler acrylic enamel back in 1981 or 82 as I recall. Thought it was at the Moroe swap a couple years ago? The 2 tone paint job has been changed since it was 1st painted. It came from Johnnie's Auto wrecking in Woodinville-4th car up on the stack!

Probably more than you wanted to know!
