  1. WOW... Those 340s are high buck.. Whats the rear end...Must really burn.
  2. Sounds intresting. I was aware the power steering was built into the shaft as I added power steering to the 55 Desoto I had. Ill have to check it out Does sound like a possibility though. Id like to be able to keep the 46 Plymouth steering wheel. Guess a trip to French Lake or Windy Hill here in Minnesota is in order.. LOL Thanks Donald..
  3. I had a 1955 Desoto with power steering once... Wonder how the steering column with power gear box would work in a 46-48 Plymouth-Dodge. Could the geometry where the arm attaches to the steering linkage be the same ?. Anyone here tried this ?
  4. If old school is what you want put the 251 Chrysler six in and outfit it with a couple carbs and split manifold. A near boltin.
  5. Thanks for the info DRs In !!!
  6. I guess I know what a poly motor is afterall by those valve covers.. I put one like that in a Plymouth coupe about 50 years ago when I was a young guy. Had to go around the steering column with the back right exhaust but the original transmission bolted up to the V-8 motor. Flywheel, clutch, and driveshaft were the same too. Never had to move the transmission.. Think the radiator worked without moving it. Put a floor shifter on. Other than that she fit right in with linkages and fittings etc.... The motor remained on center too.. I remember it as a very easy job as I didnt have a welder or cutting torch. Torqflight would be nice.
  7. Like that bumper !!!
  8. Never heard of a poly engine.. What is it...
  9. The best you can find.. Whats a few bucks...Im using Castrol GTX
  10. Thats the bracket that holds the muffler bearing in place.
  11. I had a 1951 Plymouth way back when that was wired by a pro to start on 12 volts and then run on six.. Had two six volt batteries.. Before I knew better I would show off by driving it around the parking lot on just the six volt starter running 12 volts thru it. Never did manage to burn out the starter. An electric car in the 1960s LOL
  12. 251 Chrysler is the way to go...A near boltin. Plenty of power. The disc brakes for the front is a good thing too.
  13. Isnt there a Plymouth town somewhere in England ?
  14. Why would anyone convert to 12 volts without going to a negative ground. Must be a reason.
  15. Been cleaning up the 1999 Explorer rearend for the 46 plymouth. Cut off the spring perches and swaybar perches yesterday which didnt take long with a 4 inch grinder. Tried to get the bolt out of the differential to release a pin and enable the axles removal but as I read most of the time it wont come and mine didnt either. So Ill go with the original wheel bearings and seals. Put 1/4 inch worth of flat washers on the wheel lugs to see what it will take to have the rim clear the calipers and that will do so will order 1/4 inch wheel spacers. The differential on the Explorer is 1 1/2 inch offset so hope the driveshaft doesnt become affected. Plan on removing the old rearend next.
  16. Id be running down that anti-freeze leak or you could be working and spending on a dead horse. Keep us informed.

  23. Start out by spraying every bolt and nut you can find on the car with penetrating oil for a month.
