  1. I don't see a beer on the table Robert !!! Im keeping the original look with the old gauges..
  2. I went the calculator route but came up 5 mph fast at 30 mph... My next drive gear change should put it right on... Doesn't anyone here work on their own cars ?
  3. Is there anything Id rather do than work on my Plymouth ? Cant think of any right now. Most "professionals" are mostly professional at screwing the customer. Im as good or better than 99% of them.
  4. I suppose a shop if you want to spend the money but they by reading these post will be doing the same thing Im doing. Ne xt week when the drive gear arrives Ill let the board know how I did... I take the car into town where they have a speed warning device set up showing your speed...Last time the cars speedometer showed 35 when the device showed 30..
  5. Think the solution will be solved by trial and error...When I get the #7 drive gear next week my calcs should be a 15% increase in the drive gear and 5 mph at the speedometer. The fun in these cars is the challenge.
  6. I put the front speakers in the panel by a driver-passengers legs ahead of the door. Will need the low depth ones.
  7. I have a chevy 350 trns with a Explorer 3.71 ratio differential and 670-15 coker radials on my 46 Plymouth.. Getting tired of changing speedometer gears...My latest calculations are a # 7 drive gear and a 24 tooth driven gear...Had a # 8 drive gear and a 24 tooth driven gear which made the speedometer read 35 when it should have read 30...Any math whizzes or fellow experiencers out there ? Yes, I should have kept her stock... LOL
  8. Id like to see a 46-48 Plymouth photoshoped with fins LOL
  9. I take it the wiper motor from Newport is 12 volt.

    engine swap

Find a Chrysler 251 ci straight six. Get it overhauled ( bored out and you have as many cis as a small block V-8 ) and save yourself a ton of grief and probably money. The car will keep up with traffic and can cruise at 70 all day long. All the speed parts are available as shown in other replies though you don't really need to do that.
  11. Did the 48 Plymouth come with electric wipers as standard or as option ? Looking to convert mine to electric.
  12. Could be you have the clutch in backward. They go in opposite of the way you would invision them. They might work some. I had a 52 chevy once as a kid and put the clutch in backward. It worked but slowly ground down the springs. Check out the pilot shaft on the transmission and the throwout bearing adjustment.

    Got it working.. THX
  14. Anyone see where or how to pay the site for running an ad ?
  15. If the system isnt too much money it sounds like a great product. You can still use the 6 volt starter if you dont crank it too long. 12 volts makes it really turn over.
  16. Is it possible to fine tune the speedometer at the speedometer head ?
  17. Result may be one broken arm.

    I need 12 Volt

Most of the starting problems with a 6 volt car is usually a half dead battery. Put on a one wire altinater sp. and eliminate the voltage regulator and a ton of charging problems will go away. IMO

    I need 12 Volt

I don't know how to do it but I had a 51 Plymouth that was converted to start on 12 volts but ran everything else on 6 volts. You turned the key on and pushed the button on the dash for 12 volts with the key on. It had two 6 volt batteries.
  20. When installing a different transmission you lose the original parking brake.. Here is what I just finished doing. I installed a chevy 350 motor and 350 automatic a couple years back in my 46 Plymouth and also a 1999 Ford Explorer rear end. To get a parking brake again I took a NEW Explorer right rear cable housing while retaining the original Explorer brake cable setup, coming from the rear brakes.. removed the cable and replaced it with a NEW 1969 Roadrunner cable which hooked up to the original brake handle assy. .. So now I had the Explorer cable housing with the roadrunner inner cable together.. The trailing end came out with plenty to spare right down on the frame where I placed a bell crank. I cut the cable off and clamped it back together using small cable clamps as needed. ...I made the bell crank out of 5/6 by 1 1/4 flat bar and drilled about 3/16 dia holes where I inserted the cable into the holes via about 1/8 slots from the outer edge to the holes... I welded a piece of the same flatbar perpendicular to the first piece and drilled a 3/8 hole thru for the pivit bolt. ..Drilled a 3/8 clearance hole thru the frame near the top for the pivet bolt and used a brass fitting about one inch long I had as a spacer to get the bell crank away . I used the cut off cable ends with the crimped on ends to insert into the bell crank via the slots and cable clamped those to the other cables making sure there was no slack.. works great !!! Dale
