  1. If that is silver paint on those spark plugs they will short out to to the block and misfire or not fire at all.
  2. Doubt if Ill find any. Maybe I can modify the other ones.
  3. Are the wiper arms different for convertibles from the sedans and coupes ? Thx
  4. I think its the radial tires that make for alot of the hard turning of the steering wheel. Thanks for the info guys.
  5. Could you describe "Bump steer " ?
  6. Thanks guys.. So I take it a non power rack doesnt make the amount of force less to turn the steering wheel. I have a Chevy 350 motor and I believe the weight is about the same or less on the front wheels than the old Plymouth flathead... Ill be checking into this.
  7. Im considering adding rack and pinion steering on my 46 Plymouth. Id like to know if all units require power or if they work without and if they dont need power does it make the steering much easier turning than stock. THX, Dale
  8. I relocated the battery on my 46 Ply into the trunk as with the 350 V-8 there was no room under the hood. Ran cables I bought from Speedway in a kit for that purpose along with a battery box. Ran the lead cable out of the trunk and inside the frame to the solanoid. Should be room under the hood though on your 1940 though.
  9. I see on EBAY under 1947 plymouth knobs there are reproduction dash knobs now. $99 for full set including heater ones. Also complete throttle and choke assemblies with knobs for $99 free shipping....... Been looking for the choke and throttle assys for a long time. Ordered them just now.

    Horse Power

I bolted up a 56 Plymouth V-8 to a 47 Ply trns once. I had an automatic trns so all I had to do was toss out the spacer bellhousing. Clutch and all that worked. Only had to put on floorshifter. Donk know but sometimes they keep things the same for decades.

Wondering if a later model Chrysler V-6 will bolt up to the stock trns. I dont see sacrilidge in using a Chrysler V-6 in an old Plymouth.
  12. When my dog saw my first coat of paint he said ruff ruff.

    Body work

How about a plazma cutter if the cost isnt too much.
  14. Its getting plenty of gas. Took out the plugs once and squirted in gas. To cold out now to mess with it but we will come Spring. Didnt try shorting out a plug to check for spark. Replaced carb with a new one.
  15. The motor turns over easily in the cold. Ive checked the spark while turning the motor over and it looked strong. Got a real jolt while doing it. Good spark.. Good compression..runs strong once it starts.. Spark plugs maybe ? Not good with the electronics part.
  16. Ya that is a good point..We will do that..
  17. It has an electric fuel pump and goes great at all speeds. I agree with Knuckle also but how do you get great compression with bad valves ?
  18. Choke works and. the carb was changed.. the motor runs great once it starts. Could it possibly be a timing issue > Has a Pertronics ignition. Cant see how the ignition could be a problem.
  19. I have a friend with a 47 plymouth. If the temp is under 50 degrees it wont fire or start but if he pushes it into the sun and lets the sun shine on the motor for awhile it starts right up. We think it has bad valves but has real good compression on all cylinders. The motor has good oil pressure and isnt an oil burner. I had a ford Falcon with a six cyl. once that acted the same way. Any ideas ?
  20. Why not install a 6 volt one wire alternator along with the inverter for the 12 volt needs ? Do they produce 60 plus amps ?
  21. Well the car came with a six cyl and he wanted an easy installation so sounds like another Chrysler corp. six cylinder thought be it a V-6 sounds good to me. The car isnt a duce coup.
  22. I would think it would be a nice fit in an old Plymouth. Lot of work with the fuel and electrical systems though. Didnt GM have a straight 4 cyl. in pickups with quite a bit of stock HP ?
  23. Not even a V-6 with 300 HP out of the new Chrysler 300 that I was looking at yesterday ?
