  1. All good advice. BUT.....I did the same thing with (2) 46-48 Chryslers (among other cars) and now I basically have two cars stored in my attic/basement/2 sheds and a tent. Now I am reaching the age where I really need to start liquidating this stuff BUT where and how is the question(s).
  2. SOUNDS LIKE IT COULD BE THE OVER CENTER SPRING https://p15-d24.com/topic/41271-1948-plymouth-clutchover-center-spring-adjustment/
  3. I have removed several starters like these without needing to take anything else off of the car. Remove the 2 bolts and tilt the starter up and it should come out. OR....you can remove it from the top - not as easy but it can be done.
  4. It is probably in your best interest to pull the starter to do the repair. I would think trying to work in a small space will only make it difficult. Also, you can look and see if the pin is laying around somewhere because more than likely the cotter pin(s)/hairpin broke.

  8. Los_Control I tried to bring this thread back to the original question on page #1 with this response: "Just trying to keep this thread on-topic. Your truck and 52 Coronet will likely average around the same MPG - or at least be close enough to not make that much of a difference. Coronet might be a little better - maybe....." But it seems that once the thread gets hijacked everybody just runs with it......... I know from my experiences in the past that my old Mopars would get around 18-20 MPG on the highway and 10-15 MPG city.
  9. Looks like a Special Deluxe based on the the fact that it has stainless trim around the windshield. No interior shots to verify. Would need to see if there is a horn ring. If there is one it is a Special Deluxe Also, if you decide to part it out let us know. Parts are needed.

  11. When you say , "I have a good hard pedal now," do you mean that the pedal has no "travel" (for lack of a better word) when you press it? There should be some pedal "travel" before the pedal stops when stepping on it and it should not be "rock hard" without any "travel". If it is "rock hard" then there is something wrong. Possibly pressure build-up in the system, etc...
  12. All good suggestions here BUT why don't you just grind/sand some of the lining off and that may be the "simple" solution to your problem. If not then approach it from a different angle. But from your own measurements it looks like the shoe lining is too thick.
  13. Don't know if this has been mentioned but the arrows on the anchor bolts should face towards the wheel cylinders when assembled.
  14. Are the shoes new? If so, the lining may be a little too thick and not allow the drums to slide on. I have had this happen to me several times and I just had a very, very small amount of the lining skimmed off and the drums went on - no problem. You may even try to skim off some of the lining yourself. I have done it using emery cloth working evenly along the shoe.
  15. You could try to heat them up with a hair dryer, too.
  16. Looking at the last picture I see a grommet just below the wiring. That is where the ends of that bow would go in and, after looking at the 50 Plymouth 2-door in the link above, the bow would be over the rear window. I have dismantled a few Chryslers and I am pretty sure there should be a tack strip under the window to "grab" the headliner - not 100% sure about that though.
  17. I wonder what that hook thing is for? Maybe there is a hole in the frame that anchors it and the bolt hole to bolt it tight. YEP
  18. On my 47 Chrysler (not sure DeSoto is the same - might be) the junction block that the brake switch screws into is mounted on top of the frame on the drivers side - up front near the radiator.

  20. Ok I'll bite. How do you know?
  21. If the car is not moving will it go into 2nd and/or 3rd gear(s)? If the car is not running (engine off) will it go into 2nd and/or 3rd gear(s)? Is there any grinding, etc when trying to shift into 2nd/3rd gear? Your last description almost sounds like the clutch is slipping or the Fluid Drive is low on oil???
