  1. There is no trim. That frame is all supposed to be 1 piece except for 3 sheet metal pieces that cover the seams on the outside. One goes top to bottom in the center and then there are two tiny ones that go on the sides at the middle.
  2. These tanks were certainly meant to be dropped. The tank should be under that rear bracket and held with springs and sleeves to prevent over tightening. Sounds like someone messed with yours.
  3. Are your captive nuts spinning now? You should be able to get an open end wrench in there to hold them while unbolting the bottom. Mine are broken off too and I just used a reg nut and bolt to reinstall.
  4. The 1/2 ton sits on top of the frame at the front and then bolts to a bracket at the rear. Is that similar to what you have? Pretty sure the tanks are the same between the pickups and the larger trucks.
  5. Not sure what you've got going on but at least on the 1/2 tons the tank is removable without touching the cab mounts. It's very close- the 47 I did last summer the filler neck kinda scraped it's way through the cab floor but it went in.
  6. Not much at the swaps but I found quite a few options between garage sales and Facebook market. Ended up with this Dayton from a garage sale for a cool $20. Pic isn't that good as it's just the one wifey sent me to see if I wanted it.
  7. Just use that pilot house diagram. I'm sure everything would carry over except lengths.
  8. See if you can find online or maybe in here a wiring diagram for an early 50s car. Those list the gauge. I did my 48 plymouth using the 1950 chart for size. The lighting was a mix of 16 and 14 but for simplicity and an upgrade I used all 14. Then there are a few thicker ones for stuff like the charging circuit.
  9. Every flathead I've ever installed was done by using 2 head bolts and a chain. Bolts were then retorqued. Never had a problem with the gasket however all of these would have been drained of coolant.
  10. Are these the 4 side screws? If so they go into a threaded piece of stock that is separate from the frame itself. If you've gone past all the normal methods like heat etc then drilling might not be the worst. You will likely have to drill all 8 though to deal with the remnants in the stock piece
  11. On my truck is doesn't do anything. There is just a screwed down metal cover. Apparently on the larger trucks which had air brakes the battery was moved to the passenger side under that cover.
  12. I've had good luck hanging them from the ceiling and spraying them until it drips out the bottom.
  13. These? They are welded to the floor. See if there is a broken spot weld or 2

  15. I used actual 2x4 pieces for mine. For the rear one I notched the ends to fit into the stake pockets. For the rubber pads I used a hole saw on an old tire and made my own.

  19. Contact rock auto and see if they can reverse that credit and shift it to a card you actually have. This is why I typically turn a visa type gift card into Amazon credit.
  20. That is great news! Don't fret the time either. I know I have a project that's been ongoing way longer ( I have to count years not months) and I'm probably not the only one. Looking forward to see what you discover on the brakes.
  21. I looked in my books. Most of the vintage pics are black and white but the few that are of a lighter color body show a dark windshield. So I'm saying they were black.
  22. I would call it a plug wire loom. Used on the 39-47 trucks.
  23. 1940 was the first year for sealed beam lights. The 1939 trucks had a reflector with 2 replaceable bulbs. For 1940 the parking lights went on top and Im guessing they were either a stop gap or found inadequate and the cowl lights were built for 41.
  24. Someone did the same on my truck. A couple of hokey screws into the cab and no gaskets.
  25. Same fenders 1/2-1ton. There should be a thick rubber piece that goes between cab and fender. Fender is held by inner fender and then attaching to top of running board
