  1. I've been researching electric vs hydraulic and the electric are the preferred choice. I was surprised that a new axle with leaf springs is not all that expensive. Today I bought a fisher upper 12' vintage RV for either my Suburban or my truck. It was very inexpensive and will suit me just fine. I'll pull it home late August for a winter project.
  2. What experience have you had with a light trailer equipped with an hydraulic hitch brake master cylinder on a light RV trailer or boat trailer?
  3. A Dade County salesman called and said that I had just won a 45' motor home, free. I said "Thanyou for informing me, where are the keys and where do I pick it up?" Well, he said, there are a few . . . I responded that he said I had won a 45' . . . And I wat to know where my motor home is ! I kept pressing him on the meaning of "won". "Free", he eventually called mea . . . Then hung up?
  4. Why not just steam clean it inside and out, then work on it in the spare bedroom?
  5. They were but only by the moonlighters! LOL
  6. Report post #15 Posted 31 minutes ago That is one hell of a big camper you have on the back of that Ford!! low rider too! CA surf wagon?
  7. Maybe the B4C is different, this is mine, a 97 Cherokee in a '52 B3B. No problems.
  8. Yes, but it did pass the crash test! LOL
  9. This morning I picked up a stash of parts, enough to build two VW's, and one body, and one pan. I paid $80.00 for everything. From these I will teach my grandson how to build his own school car using the kit car frame I spent $100 on including fuel to get it, and I will build a dune buggy. Note, truck in use!
  10. The ultimate example of "repurposing ".
  11. While driving the San Juan Baptista to Lodi, Ca route, a semi was following me. I was on a rural road on the flat West Side of Fresno, CA. At a stop sign I left Phoenix and approached the semi driver to ask what speed I was driving, just wanted to confirm the accuracy of my gauges. When I arrived at the truck, the truck driver, a Spanish American young man immediately looked at me and said "I love Jesus, someday I want to be a church pastor ". We had a great visit because I love Jesus also!
  12. Doing light tasks these days. These bed frames were in my way so I repurposed them into a top rack. I will remove some of rhe front mounts, kept them to help square it for welding. I like making something useful from discarded items. The flower urn picture I made for a Christmas present for my daughter. I made the urn and frame, and the flowers and let her arrange them. Fun stuff
  13. I'm in California, might as well be in a foreign country. Drove truck to get carb rebuild kit, the accelerater pump is not working and parts for the Suburban which may qualify as well. This church was too tempting, had to get a photo.
  14. Congrats on the purchase. Those 49-52 suburbans still have a separate rear fender which I prefer over then '53 which I have. Kep us informed.
  15. Do you have a picture of the entire car?
  16. PAINT? NO, don't paint over a natural "Picasso"! The Cats may pay a night visit!
  17. Evans Electric in Fresno Ca. They repair these items all the time for a very large farm constituency . I've had several repaired by them. The picture is their shop.
  18. I rode with Don in the car to Tims BBQ. I sat in the back seat and rode like a king. Fun trip!
  19. We purchased tickets yesterday to fly to Maine on the 19th for 20 days. I'm tired and sore so a rest is in order. Then return finish it but wlll not be n a hurry to sell. Will enjoy it for a while, just too much work spent not to enjoy it. A Mare Island Naval entry sticker is on the front bumper, will drive it there and try to find that owner. Casper50 and I regularly chat early a.m.'s. This morning during a discussion I decided to keep the Suburban, build it for myself and enjoy it. So will do just that at a leisure pace. So with an overdrive, which I have, possibly an upgraded distributor and eventually an AC unit, this will be a great car for me. This thread is my personal journal which I share with who may be interested. At some point I will down load it, edit that material, and put that material in the glove box. Will do the same with the truck. For those under 80 years old, enjoy while you can, because tired muscles will eventually come to you also.
  20. Take a good battery, some good cables and a compression gauge with you and you should be able to do a compression and oil check. The spark plugs are also good things to check. Good luck, I like the 49-52 Suburbans. Mine is a '53, back fenders are different.
  21. Casper is spot on, but the chances are good that it will run, how good, is another question, check the oil, is it black? If so ok.
  22. Saw this in Maryland a couple of tears ago. The water reservoirs were left open so that frozen water would not damage the engine. Just start it and let the engine melt the water. We had these on our remote ranch windmill jack pumps. We would put in the amount af gas needed to fill the cattle tanks and let them run. Our tanks were 30 feet in diameter and 36" deep. They had concrete bottoms.
  23. KD 1975, there are vacations, two surgeries, etc in that time frame, so. . . . That is how it goes. So these days I do one more thing minimum, that's my new normal.
  24. Do not miss the Vietnam memorial! I've been there twice, a very different place, changes your mind on things. Strongly consider going to the monuments at night, much more impressive all lit up against a black sky. You won't be alone but not crowded then. And then there is the national cemetery and the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Enjoy, it is a little more impressive than Tims BBQ but not by much.
