Reminds me of the old story about the man and the flood. A man was trapped on the roof of his house in a flood. He prayed to God for help. Shortly afterwards a boat pulled up. Get on they said. No he replied, God will save me. As the water rose a helicopter flew overhead, we'll lower you a rope. No said the man, God will save me. They flew away. The water now covered everything but the chimney. Another boat came. Get on before it's too late. The man said no, God will save me. He drowned. As he stood before God he asked God why he abandoned him. God looked at him and said" I sent two boats and a helicopter" The moral is, you also gotta help yourself.

Of course there is the old standard: Some's good, mores better.

Well the Fire Dept ambulance just took my next door neighbor to the hospital with covid. She is 80 and has the usual issues that can affect it. Her daughter caught it with no symptoms but loss of taste(she’s mid 40’s). Although her Father who is 81 got his vaccine shots her Mom refused preferring to rely on Prayer. Sure hope she comes out ok as I do for all the rest of you who are dealing with it.

You should try it with Carmel sauce. Mmmmmgood. At least once anyway.

A lot of the old guys I knew back in ancient times were big fans of tuning each engine to it’s individual best settings. They would start at the factory specs and start adjusting one thing after another (carb, timing, plugs, sometimes experimenting with hotter or cooler plugs to see if it changed anything). They would do this until it hit the “sweet spot” and they would pronounce the job done.

And silly me just used a lightweight gp grease 15 years ago not ever knowing a special one even existed. No troubles at all. I miss Don Coatney and his common sense.

Haven’t been around any short track circle cars since I was a teenager. Seeing it brings back memories.

Regarding the undercoating I scraped off what came off somewhat easily and after cleaning just sprayed POR 15 over the top and inside the frame rails. Inside the door I just used spray cans(several)of rubberized undercoating.

No. Smelling oil and gas yes,. Feeling it's texture, yes as well. but tasting, never heard of that.

I certainly would have one. if feasible before the pump or at least before the carb. Old tanks can have rust and who knows what in them and even new tanks can get something bad pumped in them by accident. Cheap insurance. Also an inline most likely has finer filtering ability that the in tank one. Many new cars have a very good in tank filter due to fuel injection but back in the old days not as big an issue with the manufacturers.

Mine is buried till Spring but if you look at the linkage as it crosses the head you can unscrew the end that attaches to the carb and screw in the new part provided. Did not have to weld anything as the instructions suggest. At least on my 52 that is how it worked. Looking at the pic on Landons site I see I must have used a combination of the original and the new to make it work. I do remember it not being a big deal though. One thing about the carb is the mixture screw is a pain get to after the heater box and air cleaner are installed so if possible try to get everything sorted mixture and idle speed wise before putting the heater box back in. I took mine out for ease of access. You don’t have to. Air cleaner makes getting to the high idle adjustment a challenge and you will need a medium screwdriver and the ability to do a little bit of contortion to adjust regular idle with the heat box installed. Note as well I have a horizontal linkage so all of this is based on that option.

I was able to do a bolt up with the supplied linkage. Easier than i thought it would be.

Some folks have rejeted the carb but I did not. Runs great. I have the manual choke but did have to run it through the heater box by drilling two small holes in it. I think this is what you are talking about. I spoke to Jon at the Carburetor shop and although he said it was doable by either enlarging the mounting holes to the manifold or his suggestion was to take the bottom half of a B&B and cut it in half and then do the same to the bottom part on the YF. My 52 had(has still in spots) a heavy thick asphalt type coating but just on the underside of the car body. Frame did not have any. I scraped off as much as I could 17 years ago when I sprayed the entire underside with POR 15.

That way when the fire starts you won't lose the relay.
