  1. I wouldn’t go too far or go too fast. I forgot to mention that the 54 never had over 10-15 psi of oil pressure. I never left town in it. Good luck
  2. And then the mouse plague.
  3. Well probably not the approved method but when I was in High School fifty some years ago I had a 54 Plymouth that had a bad crank. Without enough money or ability to fix it properly I would(when the knocking got bad or twice when it seized) jack it up, pull the pan, take off number five cap, push the piston out of the way, and then clean the journal best I could and replace the bearing. Put it back together and away I went until the next time. So, yeah you can, but will it be reliable and will you feel comfortable driving it. For me then, sure. Today, not a chance.
  4. Poor folks there come off a multi year drought and into the Great Flood. Humans never win when dealing with weather.
  5. I bought the parts for mine several years sgo from these folks. Mine was a standard non od trans. https://www.then-now-auto.com/ Others here have talked about Tennessee clutch as well being a good supplier
  6. All four fender spears for my 52 four door. Bought two either correct ones or so close it did not matter after someone here(sadly don’t remember who) went to his car and measured them for me. The fronts were given to me in thanks for inspecting a car near me for a guy who posts on the AACA This all after ten+ years of looking.
  7. Love the Volvo a little info on the Nickel Plate Road https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York,_Chicago_and_St._Louis_Railroad
  8. Like the Chicago to Mackinaw race on Lake Michigan every year. Had a coworker who did that several times. He loved it.
  9. It’s a shame that the families of these folks won’t get to see the pics unless they stop by here. I enjoy seeing them.
  10. Scouts marched crookedly back then too. Great pics.
  11. The dogs? Ours prefer Ruffles but some are not as fussy.
  12. I think a good portion of younger folks don’t expect to ever be able to retire. My daughter and her husband just bought a house in Waukesha, Wi. And had to bid $20,000 over the asking price to get it. They had been outbid on eight other houses before that. $255,000. For a 3 bedroom, 1 bath ranch on a corner lot with a two car garage. And they make a good living. By the time you add all the other expenses of life in those with less are just buying or charging stuff and not worrying about it. With all the talk about climate change and the political situation maybe they don’t see much future.
  13. Manual choke. Only problem was I had to run the cable through the heater duct. Not a real issue. Works well.
  14. Nevermind
  15. Oops
  16. I would suggest checking here as it is more a site for modified cars than here. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/
  17. And I sincerely hope you stay safe
  18. Reminds me of the old story about the man and the flood. A man was trapped on the roof of his house in a flood. He prayed to God for help. Shortly afterwards a boat pulled up. Get on they said. No he replied, God will save me. As the water rose a helicopter flew overhead, we'll lower you a rope. No said the man, God will save me. They flew away. The water now covered everything but the chimney. Another boat came. Get on before it's too late. The man said no, God will save me. He drowned. As he stood before God he asked God why he abandoned him. God looked at him and said" I sent two boats and a helicopter" The moral is, you also gotta help yourself.
  19. Of course there is the old standard: Some's good, mores better.
  20. Well the Fire Dept ambulance just took my next door neighbor to the hospital with covid. She is 80 and has the usual issues that can affect it. Her daughter caught it with no symptoms but loss of taste(she’s mid 40’s). Although her Father who is 81 got his vaccine shots her Mom refused preferring to rely on Prayer. Sure hope she comes out ok as I do for all the rest of you who are dealing with it.
  21. You should try it with Carmel sauce. Mmmmmgood. At least once anyway.
  22. A lot of the old guys I knew back in ancient times were big fans of tuning each engine to it’s individual best settings. They would start at the factory specs and start adjusting one thing after another (carb, timing, plugs, sometimes experimenting with hotter or cooler plugs to see if it changed anything). They would do this until it hit the “sweet spot” and they would pronounce the job done.
  23. And silly me just used a lightweight gp grease 15 years ago not ever knowing a special one even existed. No troubles at all. I miss Don Coatney and his common sense.
