  1. Got a little help from the wifie. I wonder if I can talk her into putting the tranny back in.?
  2. Got it back in yesterday..a small milestone. Still a tone of work ahead of me
  3. Fourth time is a charm when getting the bell house back on. 1. Forgot to align clutch..back off 2. Forgot to add dust/oil felt seal...back off 3. Forgot to drive out pins.. partially back off. Best to get all the bolts started. Then line up and drive in the pins. Then tighten everything up.
  4. I know this has been a much discussed topic. When I talked with George Asche, he suggested a straight up non detergent 30w oil. Someone also suggested the Joe Gibbs driven break-in oil that has zinc or Royal Purple. Not sure which direction to go. I guess if there is no harm in using the zinc added oil, I’ll sweat the extra $15 bucks for the first oil change for peace of mind.
  5. Thanks Merle Do you know which side of the nut is the contact side. I noticed one side of the nut is flat and the other has a raised edge. The edge of the nut has notches to indicated one side from the other. I would like to get it on correct before I go further.
  6. Got the flywheel/fluid drive assembly on this afternoon. It’s a bit of a pain to get the nuts on. Definitely no go for a fat fingered mechanic. Not sure how I could torque the nuts to spec.
  7. Got the engine off the engine stand an onto my handmade engine kart. Now I can bolt on the back end stuff.
  8. Congratulations! Dont worry. My old lady hounded me when I first got my old b2b truck. Now she’s always hounding me to go for a ride. That’s a sweet wagon. You’ll gets lots of thumbs up going down the road and your girlfriend I’ll dig it! Now get to work! ?
  9. I haven’t done it yet. But I plan to use an old oil pump which I ground down the cam gear. I will spin it up using a drill and a long screwdriver. Then switch it ounwith the new pump
  10. ??. Do it! (IMHO)
  11. When I get my car back together. I’ll have to come by for a visit (I live in Santa Cruz). At the rate I’m going it might be in 2019. ? Great project. I look forward to your progress.
  12. Don’t know. They are sharp looking . Would be a cool ride.
  13. Good idea
  14. The car it’s going on is a fluid drive. (1947 Dodge) When I bought it, it had a carter carb with a sisson choke. My 1950 Dodge truck is fluid drive with a carter carb and runs fine. shouldnt be an issue, but maybe someone with more knowledge will comment.
  15. Birthday present to myself arrived today. (c/o George Asche Jr.)
  16. Getting there.
  17. Northern California. Hmmm. I wonder where and if it still exists. What a mystery. Could be down the street from me. (Or sadly enough it could have been consumed in any of the numerous fires we’ve had over the last few years)
  18. It’s Duplicolor “Aluminum” engine enamel. I’m happy with the way it looks. I put a couple of coats on. It drys fast. I guess we’ll see how it lasts.
  19. I bought most of my engine parts and had my cam ground by Egge. (They source some of their parts from Kantor) If I had to do it again, I would go with Terrill Machine. I had a very positive experience with them. Their prices are some of the cheapest and they will ship the next day. I had to wait several weeks for Egge because they didn’t have certain things in stock.
  20. I would recommend Terrill Machine from Texas. He will sell you guides, valves, tappets and springs and ship them the next day. Very knowledgeable, no BS. Cheaper then VPW Other options are : Egge Machine or. Kantor Machine I find VPW to be the highest priced parts supplier over all. Good luck!
  21. Put the head and torqued to 65lbs in proper sequence. Used copper gasket sealer. Got the water pump back on. Put some paint on it.
  22. What you have there is called a CHICK MAGNET. Your going to have to beat them off with a stick. Just make sure the inside smells nice (not like rat sh*t) and your good to go. The seats are big and comfortable for some serious “hand holding” ?. Godspeed young man! I look forward to you getting it on the road.
  23. I love those flathead t-shirts. Very cool photo.
  24. I covet that man’s Farmall
  25. Got the oil seal in the timing chain cover. Decided to put a speedi-sleeve on the dampner flange. Used the dampner flange to float the cover before tightening bolts. put the oil pan on, making sure not to cut the excess gasket. Decided to seal the pan side of the gasket and just grease the block side (the Don Coatney method). Hopefully no leaks.
