  1. Did some more tinkering with the horn this morning. Ooooops, realized that trumpet part needs to be on to depress the vibrator.
  2. I am trying to fix up 1 of these horns and I have it apart, but I am getting a dead short across it when I energize. Not sure where the paper gaskets go? It looks just like the previous pictures. I will keep poking around and post updates. Thanks for now Neil Checked the coil, it appears ok. Checked the wire wound resistor, it also appears ok. Will do some more research and tackle it again tomorrow or Sunday. Neil
  3. Might as well balance the tires as well. http://aircooledtech.com/tools-on-the-cheap/balancing_beads/
  4. I followed previous advice on this forum and filled my vacuum motor with penetrating oil and worked them back and forth slowly several times with the switch on and eventually they loosed up and started working by themselves.
  5. I can relate. I just changed the spark plugs in my son's 2001 Legacy. I had to remove the air induction and the windshield washer fluid resovoir to gain access.
  6. Welcome from Saskatoon. If you do decide to go the /6 route, let me know. Mine still have the original engines and always on the lookout for parts. I have a 50 Coupe and a 52 1/2 ton.
  7. Not that I have found yet. I will keep looking Thanks Neil
  8. I was offered a used motor that was supposedly rebuilt and then stored after 3000 miles. It is the 25" block with P28 23167C on the block and D267 1632386 on the head. I assume it is a Canadian engine, but I cannot find any other info other than it appears to be a 1956. I hope someone can steer me towards more info. Thanks Neil

  10. My wipers on my 52 Dodge DG1 (Canadain version) were not working. I did as Don instructs here, and they now work great. Great tip and proof that the search function works. Thanks Don
  11. Here is what I used. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1949-1950-PLYMOUTH-DELUXE-FIREWALL-INSULATION-PAD-/300868184879?hash=item460d242b2f Fit perfect
  12. Just to muddy the waters a bit, that is the 1 I bought for my Plodge, (1950 Canadian Dodge Special Deluxe). It fit perfectly. :-)
  13. I noticed it was for sale.Heading to Regina this weekend, so was checking out Kijiji down there.
  14. Is this the motor from Radisson? Did he have any other flathead parts? Neil
  15. Let us know what you find out about Canadian shipping. Thanks
  16. Impressive. Congrats.
  17. What is the definition of finished?
  18. I was in a similar situation, except I am not a mechanic. My father in law gave my wife his 1950 Dodge Special Deluxe (Canadian version) about 6 years ago after he had a stroke and could no longer drive. He had had it for about 20 years, he drove it about 20 times in that 20 years, it hadn't ran for about 4 years. It was originally my wife's Great Grandmother's car. We brought it home and with a little help from a friend of mine and a lot of help from this group I got it running. I spent $100 on 2 manuals and a parts book. I joined the local antique car club, (not only the cars are old). A member there repaired my radio. I replaced the coil, rotor, battery, battery cables, all the fluids, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and redid all the brakes, cylinders, master cylinder and all hoses. This work made it road worthy. All this work cost about $1000. I then spent about $1000 on the interior, I did most of the work myself. Since then, I rewired the car myself, using a homemade harness. I spent another $1000 on whitewall tires, fog lights, new starter, rad recored, gas tank cleaned and sealed, and a new sender for the fuel gauge. I have probably spent $5000, I hope it is worth close to that but it doesn't matter, as we will never sell the car.
  19. The problem with this is that unless you add an oil pressure switch or something similar, In the event of the car stalling or worse yet being in an accident the fuel pump will pump gas until the switch is turned off.
  20. If this happens again, (hopefully it doesn't) I will try to be quicker on the draw and hold the push button in.
  21. Vapor lock or not, here is my story. Yesterday here in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan it was 33 degrees Celsius (about 92 F). I was driving to a car rally at the local Hot Rod club about 5 pm. My 1950 Special Deluxe has an added electric pump inline with the rebuilt mechanical pump. I have a heat shield installed. The electric pump is wired to a push button, I normally only use it to prime the engine after it has been sitting for a while. I drove about 15 minutes on the freeway and then turned off the freeway into the Industrial area where they are located. After about 5 minutes of reduced speed the car started to sputter and then die like it ran out of gas. I was pretty sure I was not out of gas but added 1 gallon from the jerry can I carry. It would start and then sputter and die, the heat gauge was normal as were all the other gauges before it died. I tried to start it with the electric pump energized and it would run longer and then quit. I took a gallon jug of water that I also carry and dumped it on the carb as I have seen discussed on here. Tried to start it with only the mechanical pump and it fired right up and I continued on the the rally. Sorry for the long winded story, but I tried to include as much information as I could.
  22. Barton also makes them. I have a Barton version, but no controls, light only. I am going to wire using a relay and a mechanical brake light switch. They do appear on EBay once in a while.
  23. When I started working at my 1st electrical job in the early 80's, my boss ordered the service trucks without the optional radio. He wanted the guys to discuss work when they were driving to the worksite not listening to the radio. Later when the radios became a standard item, he would take them out.
  24. It's alive. After checking everything but the obvious, I replaced the obviously frayed ground wire on the coil. Bazinga, it fired right up.
