  1. I will do a bit more research on what happens when it cuts in and out and report back. I did purchase a new vibrator from Antique Electronic Supply, a P-V105P and installed it. Says it is for 6 volt positive ground 4 pin. The radio does not work at all when I install it. I assumed i ordered the wrong vibrator so have stuck with the original. Thanks for now. Neil
  2. I guess I assumed it was working as ammeter does not go negative at idle when the radio cuts out. I can check by running it at idle and turning on the lights. Is there another test I can do. It is the stock generator, Thanks for the feedback.
  3. I just bought a copy off Amazon as well. Shipping to Canada cost more than the book.
  4. My 1950 Dodge Special Deluxe (D36) Canadian version has a Mopar Model 803 radio. Also labelled as a Philco PD-4908. I had it repaired recently. Now, it works great most of the time. The only problem is that when the car idles it fades out. At driving speeds it works fine, when I slow down at a red light and the car idles it fades out. When I start to drive it cuts back in. Very similar in operation to the vacuum wipers. I have a newer Optima battery, generator and regulator must work, battery is always charged. Car is 6 volt, I replaced the wiring with a home made harness. Amp gauge shows discharge during start up and goes to charge momentarily and then hovers around 0. Is there a capacitor in the radio that I should check, I have a copy of the wiring schematic and nothing jumped out at me. Sorry for the ramble, but I have checked for obvious defects. Thanks Neil
  5. Great pictures. Congratulations.
  6. I took my old rubber fuel line to a hydraulic shop and they made for me.
  7. Did you mount it back to the frame? How did you cushion it? Would a layer of rubber be enough? I have some 3/8" I could use. Thanks Neil
  8. I thought of this, but my plan is only to run it while starting.
  9. I am thinking of doing exactly this on my 1950 Dodge Special Deluxe. (Canadian) I have an Airtex E8011 electric fuel pump that I hope to use. My plan is to install it on the frame near the tank with a fuel filter before the pump. I have a Momemtary Contact Pushbutton to energize it to prime the engine. I recently rebuilt the mechanical fuel pump with a kit from Then and Now Automotive. The car runs fine with just the mechanical pump but needs a little help starting after sitting for a day or so. From what I can determine, the mechanical pump should be able to pull thru the Airtex pump. Does this seem workable? Thanks
  10. For the most part yes. There are a few minor differences. The big one being the 25" head.
  11. My 50 Canadian Dodge Special Deluxe has vacuum wipers.
  12. Family My car was my wife's Great Grandmother's car. I didn't pick it, it picked me.
  13. I had a look and didn't see it.If you find it, I can go have a look if you are interested. Neil
  14. Yes, they fit tight to the rim. It looks like I would have to try to bend the tabs to make them grip. I am not sure that I am that committed to them. Looking closer they are marked Dodge - Plymouth 1949 15" Back in the box they go. I thought maybe the 9" would fit better? Thanks for the help. Neil
  15. I have a set of the white inserts that mount on the rim that I got from Fargos-Go-Far back when he was Rockwood. The problem I have is that I cannot get the hubcaps on securely after I put the rings on. The clips do not seem to extend enough to grip the hubcaps. I will attach photos to try to explain/show better the problem I have. My car is a 1950 Dodge Special Deluxe (Canadian) with 15" wheels. The inserts are marked 49 - 50 Dodge. I have 10" hubcaps, do I need 9" like the Deluxe came with? Thanks Neil
  16. When I brought my car home, I joined the local antique auto club and the man who was president at the time told me the same thing.A friend helped me get it running and redo the brakes to get it stopping. I have 2 manuals and a parts book. Those and the search button are invaluable. I am able to answer most questions before I think of them. I am Not a mechanic, just a hobbyist spending time and money.
  17. My car does not have a fluid drive. However, I have found this thread very informative. I now understand what they are and how they work. Thanks for the info. Neil
  18. Here is what I did. I bought a used clock off of a forum member and replaced the guts with a small battery operated clock. Not original, but not obvious either. (other than the second hand)
  19. I might be interested in the hubcaps.
  20. Check H5010V, I was able to get mine at a tire wholesaler. They were a stock item.
  21. Here is an article that was in the paper. Story about a 1939 Desoto. 1939 Desoto.pdf
  22. Have a Great trip! Keep us posted. Neil
