  4. a professional shop disconnecting the battery instead of using a meter.......I would run run run......while it does prove no output...it does not give me a warm fuzzy they care enough to use proper test equipment.....?

  6. you need be careful and not rock this without first freeing the pivot points...you risk popping the spot welds if you do. These can be quite the bear to loosen up. I have had a couple that would not respond to penetrating oil and only with a couple applications of heat with the torch did I get a nice free easy moving lid at the pivots.....you can remove the screen by loosening the screws through the slot...DO NOT try to remove these screws as they are split and spread...
  7. I am not sure when this started....I tend to recall my 51/52 has the cable on the head but I will not make that statement as an affirmative. I can state that my 47 Dodge Town Sedan which is another good example of originality has the ground cable as you indicate in your pictures...no special bolt on head at front of engine.

Well Mo......things changed over the years and not sure the cut off date on your books but in the 1946-54 Plymouth repair manual there is a a picture, Fig 41 Points to check for easy starting, page 158 that distinctly shows the ground cable from the battery to the bolt on top the head. Now we must consider at this time that even if the bolt is into the water jacket and maybe the builder did use sealant...the contact patch of bolt bottom of the special bolt to that of the head itself is sufficient. My 54 has this special bolt, think it is number two (see update below) bolt back from front of engine along the generator edge of the head. UPDATE..................I just sourced the very pictures of my original low mileage 54 and the the first bolt at front is the location of the special head bolt that is drilled and tapped for the battery cable....
  9. under his profile he list a 47 Plymouth and stock for that is the two wire system.....am not sure if you have the manual for this model but it is well covered for test and repair in the book.....good grounds, clean connections a must.....odds are the sender may have a poor wiper to cup connection on the sender where it goes to ground.

  11. to that end...I have to beg to differ.....a low mileage donor car can be had for little money and if you chose the right donor in the get go....stick the course...do your own work....very low cost to have all the bells and whistles and safety devices to boot. Where most fail is buying a crate engine....$$$$$$ buying a slick shift tranny...$$$$$$$ sending out a brand x rear gear for special sizing and gearing...$$$$$$$ frame enhancements like 4 link rear.......$$$$$$$$$ then the front supsension upgrades usually in a Heidt or similar $$$$$$$$$ and to set that in most old mopars you need special front frails.....$$$$$$$$$$ and $$$$$$ if you do not weld.....buying a harness for plug and play retro if you can find one some times....also big $$$$$$$$$ then with all that the high cost of paint and body...$$$$$$$$$$ then we got to have the interior to speed also.........$$$$$$$$$$ it is no surprise that folks are upside down before they even turn the key...at this time we have not even discussed the install of things like tilt wheel, PS, AC, ABS brakes, Air bags.....zero emission fuel systems very large disc brakes and other amenities including 3 point seal belts and many other things that are all included with the donor car. Again, you would be totally amazed at the low cash outlay.

I personally cannot see the benefit of adding dual carbs, split headers and a few other favored mods on a flathead 6....the added performance verse the cost is so low in bang for the buck.....there are the few oohs and ahs one gets that boost the ego a bit and well, that is okay...something for everyone and well I am guilty of a few things in this hobby causes some to point directly at me and scream "blasphemer.."

I thought that when you screwed it back a bit more you would have messed with the calibration or at least what may have passed for calibration....you probably could alter the spring a bit and get your accuracy back or ball park for the average 34 lb tire service...to expect accuracy over the full spectrum...hardly likely.

I can say this about the a833 in a pickup....1981 vintage...the shifter cover attaches to the side and top of the tunnel and also to some extend the floor pan....it requires not only the correct metal shape it has a number of bolts. To use this one would be best to cut the original chunk from the donor for a clean look....I would expect the car would have a similar setup....

  17. Well done.....I have only been in two states west of the lazy river...first time was just to say I crossed the river....the second time was to retrieve a 41 Dodge out of Kansas. Been in a few other countries....thanks to military and DoD temp assignments. All in all I can say it has been fun. I do not see myself traveling anymore though....got burnt out on air travel. I've become my dad, like to visit the family....never stay long from the house. Take advantage of the travel, I loved it years ago....I would like to revisit some of the places I visited overseas in my youth.
  18. I do not know of a single older Chrysler with a 3:54 sitting around in my area. I have scoured the woods and the last one I found the other guy found it a couple weeks earlier and snarfed the rear gear. That has been the only one I could find.....6 years ago at that....and nothing of late has every shown up. I live in an area where is scrap metal prices go up...these guy come out of the woodwork for quick easy money and the hobby/cars be danged....they getting their beer money and going fishing. Can't put it any other way....the truth is the truth. And we all know the famous line........IF IT WERE ONLY CLOSER............we talking whole cars here that are often a good deal....you think the average joe going to travel for a part.....HARDLY LIKELY.....they sit on couch and hope one will fall in their lap first....I am not pointing fingers folks.....just reading the crime scene....
  19. new consumers are born daily, new ones graduate into the purchasing arena daily as they leave the nest....companies could care less your (my) opinion....there are new fish to fillet and fry daily....they do not even care to reply to communications where you were given by them an avenue to contact them for 'so called' purpose of better business and service. Service is only a word found in the dictionary these day. We have already LIVED the good ole days my friend.
  20. for many who are not familar....these taper axles are on many cars and not just the old Mopar.....just my inventory.....I have these axles on my Sunbeams Tigers including a third spare 2:88 posi....they are on my Volvo PV544 and both the Jensen Interceptors have these. My four 1962 Dodge Dart/Polara cars along with the 40's and 50's Mopars about the place....Foreign cars carried these by the name of Salisbury, a European division of Dana...while I do not own a BMW I recall working a couple that were of this nature also...

  22. first off you were fortunate to find the rear axle assembly.....they are not that common for a direct bolt for bolt swap and on the Currie.....if I had to farm it out I'd burn the dang car first......!?

  24. lots of places up north the winter takes a toll on the road and they put a toll on you to pay for the spring/summer repairs....I do not see how you folks can ever consider a new car in those climates knowing fully well the corrosive side effect of winter driving....I know some have a winter beater they drive and park the good ride...prudent for sure.
  25. I do not know why so many things that require a bit of beefing up is made of plastic...not even the satisfaction of a single successful use.
