  1. I just put a 10-spline 3.73 differential in my B-1-C. I bought it from George Asche for $50, he told me it was from a DeSoto.
  2. Well, my new buddy from India who promised to send me the rear transmission seal...it never came. Found this on eBay this morning. The specs sound right, I'm gonna get one. I'll post a supplier/part number if possible. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1930s-1940s-1950s-1960s-Dodge-3sp-trans-NEW-Rear-Seal-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5889e1e4d7QQitemZ380270404823QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  3. Those prices that Charlie posted were from an old post by Merle Coggins. In checking the prices, I think that Merle was correct- O'Reilly has the lowest prices for the necessary parts. But....I think the $134.69 was a typo. Should have been $234.69.
  4. Here's a pic that shows part of my parking brake assembly. I think I have the top plate from an early series B-1-C on a later model 3 speed. You can see mounting bolts of the side of the transmission that would not have been on the original tranny. The second pic shows the type of emergency brake support that I have. It looks like the previous post except that it has a different spring arrangement on the parking brake band. Maybe some of the more experienced guys know more, but here's a shot from the parts list.

  6. What an accomplishment! Thanks for sharing it with us. What's up with the windshield surround?
  7. Are you sure, Don? usually the dual pattern wheels are 5x4.5/5x4.75. I've seen 5x5/5x5.5 before. I do think I will buy aftermarket wheels at some point. Anyone want to buy my 15" B-1-C wheels with the 5x5 bolt pattern? Five cream colored wheels with $700 worth of new radials on them. I'm in Cincinnati.
  8. Thanks, Merle. That's probably a better option for the short term anyway. What thickness did you use? Where did you order yours from?
  9. I bought one completely rebuilt from George Asche for less than that. Do a search for George Asche and you'll find his info here on the forum somewhere. Here's one in the classifieds ads on the Plymouth Bulletin for $200.00. http://plymouthbulletin.com/noahsclassifieds/list/12
  10. I'd like to install Charlie's disc brake kit in my B-1-C, but he can't find rotors with the 5 x 5 bolt pattern. If I switch the front axle to the 5 x 4.5 pattern on Charlies rotors, then it would make sense to switch the rears to 5 x 4.5, too. Is this as simple as swapping brake drums from a half ton Pilothouse for my 3/4 ton drums?
  11. Anyone have a driver's side splash pan to sell? I could use a replacement for my rusty one.
  12. The belts can sometimes whine if your pulleys are out of alignment. When I switched to an alternator, the belt whined until I got the alignment right.
  13. Yes, welcome PJShah30. Everyone is welcome here (hey, they let me in). Please be specific if you know where we can get parts for our vehicles. A name and phone number would be nice.
  14. This is interesting.... I was looking for a rear transmsission seal for my Pilothouse and one of the forum members suggested a company in India (gesco seals) that had that particular seal. I sent them an email and they replied. They seemed especially interested in using me as a sales rep to do cold calls for them, and after I did a little basic research for them, they said they would send me the seal for free. I'm still waiting... Anyway, 2 weeks after my first email, this new user (pjshah30) has started posting his suggestions for Mopar parts from India. Seems like quite a coincidence, or maybe I'm over-thinking the whole thing. Maybe Mr. pjshah30 would introduce himself? Any supplier of quality parts for flatheads is OK with me...
  15. OK, thanks Merle. The bearings and races look good, so I'll re-use them. The outer pinion bearing slides off the shaft after the pinion seal is removed (no need to remove the carrier) but it looks good, too.
  16. Thanks, guys, for the advice. I replaced all four of the axle seals. Merle, I used the screw on my slide hammer and the pinion seal popped right out. What about the bearings? Same line of thought? Replace the pinion bearing and axle bearings while I've got it apart? Do the axle bearings have to be pressed on by a machine shop?
  17. I'm swapping my old differential for a 3.73. I pulled the old axle seals and they looked pretty good- the seals had been replaced with the newer style. I replaced the inner oil seals, but I think I wil leave the outer seals alone. They look pretty good. Is this a bad idea? They're only dust seals, right? Also, should I replace the axle bearings while I have the axles out? Do they have to be pressed on by a machine shop? Last, I thought I would replace the pinion seal, but when I pulled the yoke on the 3.73, pinion seal looks pretty recent. And it looks like there is no good way to pull the seal without removing the carrier. I'm thinking just use a speedy sleeve, and hope for the best. Should I go to the trouble of replacing the pinion seal while I have the opportunity? Thanks for the advice.
  18. Here's a site with power steering conversion for PowerWagon trucks. It might be a lot easier to adapt their stuff to a Pilothouse.... Check on the link for civilian PowerWagons http://www.uglytruckling.com/index.htm
  19. Like it? I love it! If only Harry Westergard had done some Mopars....
  20. I concur. More and more auto parts stores are employing the recent graduates of our (not so) great American educational system. They can google your part on their Ipod, but they couldn't find a castle nut unless you tell them the year and model of your vehicle. You gotta patronize the good ones when you find 'em. Here in Cincinnati, there's one NAPA that has all the old reference books, and across the Ohio river in Covington, Kentucky I get great service from Kentucky Motors (now owned by KOI). Those guys will spend an hour trying to find the right shape radiator hose, and tell a good story or two as well.
  21. We like 318, 340, or 360 better than 350 'round here, but that's some real nice work. Please contionue to share your progress with us. Love those photos of your truck!
  22. Beautiful work! I don't recognize the pan, though. Is that a Ute?
  23. NO Dennis, I have to disagree. I keep a list of the costs for all my projects. Everytime I look at those lists, I tell myself I have to keep working cuz I've already spent too much to quit! Just don't tell my wife!
  24. Not mine, just thought someone might find it interesting http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/cto/1917371896.html
  25. Don't forget to bid on the Don Bunn Pilothouse book. Auction ends Saturday at noon. Check on the Forum Support Auctions link: http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/forumdisplay.php?f=24
