  1. I've only seen anecdotal performance specs that have likely been altered by time (history is written by the victors after all). Same punch line as most things - more horsepower at lower compression levels, decrease in detonation, even smoother idle, etc.... if it works as well as say the ARDUN Ford heads of the day then its a pretty good bang. The ARDUN setup advertised 175hp out of a 100HP base engine to put some more oomph under the hood of over the road trucks. A 75hp gain on say a 120hp 265ci Chrysler would make quite the splash and I would think it would be quite modest for a setup like this with today's tuning techniques.
  2. I'd like mine Chrysler industrial red. Afterall it is Horsepower with a Pedigree! lol
  3. I feel like I have seen more pictures of the prototype hemi 6 that was based on our favorite Flathead. Please post them up! I'm a fan of early curiosities. Also - didn't I recall that someone had either the original setup, or a reproduction of the setup at one point in time? Phillips Performance perhaps? It was a long time ago I remember reading that it existed, but I don't recall any pictures or other evidence other than I read it on the internet so it must be true. Jason
  4. I've been looking at various styles of hooks like these for my truck with the exact intention of using them for tie downs for both a load and a possible "truck cap" idea that I have been mulling over to use as a small camper when traveling. I'm a long ways from building the camper/top, but I'm hoping to start in on the sheet metal soon.
  5. Just being honest - with the new pictures - the condition of the wood bed, the bend grill pieces, the fenders with the typical cancer covered up by some sort of badges, etc..... I'd lower my earlier estimate. Running/driving reliably and a good interior do help it though.
  6. I like it - and its a tough question as to what it might be worth - I have seen them sell all over the map like many suggest. I can tell you that I have been watching the prices around the country on Craigslist and Ebay for the last year and my knee jerk reaction is that you probably have a 10-12K truck. Obviously I don't know any details other than the pictures you posted, but that would be my guess. More pictures and info would help narrow it down. You do have a nice exterior - a very clean and maintained/updated interior, and probably a mechanically sound drive line.
  7. Speaking of power steering setups for these old trucks..... as I was out playing with some other vintage iron (tractors) not too long ago... the thought occurred to me.. I wonder if anyone has used a Behlen power steering setup on these old trucks. Plenty of old tractors running around with these add on systems installed into the existing steering columns.
  8. Ain't that the truth! LOL I'm all about that 48 grill life.
  9. If you have a good picture of the art you can easily convert it using a program like Scan2CAD. It has a free trial download for a period of time too... so you don't have to buy it unless you find it really handy.
  10. I have the same hand hydraulic tool for making flares - it works awesome and makes me wonder why I messed around with the old style hand screw setups for so long.
  11. I know on my factory dual carb setup it has a governor under each carb....both conveniently missing the plates... lol I have no intentions of using them at all when I put it all back together.
  12. I don't have any pics or measurements off hand - but I've built a couple different styles for these engines. I've found that basically building a box with tall sides that support the oil pan rails on both sides seems to work best. I have that mounted to a pallet with a couple of ratchet strap locations to secure it down. Of course I also have easy ways of handling pallets so that also drove that decision.
  13. Did you call/email them back and ask that they either ship earlier, or refund your money? Of course if you can't find that exact part and that is what you need, you will either have to wait for it, or make your own.
  14. If that isn't the truth..... I used to have boxes of old Champion plugs that I have pulled out of 2 Cylinder John Deere tractors that ran like crap.... tossed in some Autolite's and ran like a top.
  15. If something needs to be machined I might be able to help depending on the complexity. (I just don't know the tool or anything about it).
  16. Perhaps a mod can edit the title of the thread to reflect it as a search for bellhousing information so the bias towards a particular swap can be removed.
  17. Technically this information is invaluable for any transmission swap - so feel free to add up pictures and dimensions of your bellhousing as well.
  18. What does it say across the front? I can't make it out in the picture.
  19. Nah - as soon as I get some free time I'll be adding a few pictures and measurements. Just need some free time to dig some stuff out.
  20. Do you have the part number or application for the Chevy valve that you used? Are the springs Chevy as well? (I've heard that some people have used Chevy valve springs in this application).
  21. Nope. Its basically a mini-computer and the GPS satellite system doesn't require the cell network to access. I haven't looked around much for one yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't a good app to help calculate horsepower. I know some exist, but I think most of them require an OBDII port. With the built in accelerometer in the phone it should be possible to just utilize that and set up a test where you take off from a stop. Add in the rolling weight of the car, cargo, and people in it, and you have all the basis for generating horsepower. Not as accurate as a dyno, but could be useful.
  22. I'm working on putting together one of these trucks for a daily driver - while I do plan on having a full set of functional gauges - I also plan on having an Android radio head unit for GPS, radio, playing mp3s, etc.... I'm basically planning on installing a glove box door on the driver's side where the optional radio would normally go and having tabs on the door. When at a show - pop the door on. When driving around take off the door and stash it away somewhere. With the Android radio it would be very easy to use for a speedometer id I so desired.
  23. Ah - I slightly misunderstood what was hitting - now after studying the pictures more and your recent comment, its a little more understandable.... but personally I still wouldn't grind on the rim. Also - after looking at the pics it looks like the rim is hitting the small area that holds the calipers to the caliper slide pins - probably not the best area to remove meat. On other projects like this I've had interference with the rims and the outside of the caliper.... those aren't hateful to fix by grinding on the caliper body a little bit. This.... isn't quite as easy.
  24. Surely they meant using an angle grinder to knock down the high spots on the casting of the caliper and not the inside of the wheels.....
  25. I have no idea..... There might be minor differences that make them look different in appearance or it could be slightly different in function. Those might even be acceptable crosses done by Carter at a later date. My first question would be does the carb and linkage work on your engine as you would expect? Or are you having issues?
