Young Ed Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 Hopefully these cover all the options. Gas varies by area so I may have missed something. I will let us vote more then once because people have more then one car and I switch to the more expensive no ethanol premium at the hottest times of the summer. Quote
oldmopar Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 Do not really know what ethanol is but what ever is in the 87 octane or sometimes the 89 is what I use. Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 Here in Tennessee some folks use whatever is in there neighbors car. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 21, 2008 Author Report Posted April 21, 2008 Don I did consider adding that as an option. I thought better of it though Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 When I lived in Arkansas, I had some neighbours that availed themselves of that option at my expense. After they moved, my gas mileage improved. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 I have used the lead substitute "Instead O Lead" in the past, even though it's not necessary - due to the ol Mopars having hardened valve seats from the factory. But good ol Wally World quit carrying it....must not have been a hot seller. Starting to see more ethanol around here lately. But I would rather do without it for the old car. Quote
Normspeed Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 Don, I just got my tank siphoned Saturday night. To the tune of about $25. Dern it. Quote

Young Ed Posted April 21, 2008 Author Report Posted April 21, 2008 That would be some pretty long distance siphoning. Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 I can still get the CD2 Instead-O-Lead at the Wal*Marts here in Colorado. I especially like that they have it in the pint bottle instead of the quart bottle. The pint bottle takes up less space in the trunk. I use it in my wife's 3.0L V6, as well as my P15. One tank tetraethyl lead and then next tank lead substitute in my P15. I've heard and read a lot of anecdotal evidence that the valves are the weak link in that engine (3.0L V6). The lead substitute I use has some detergent properties to help keep the fuel system clean too. I have ordered lead substitute by the case from Midway Auto Supply, http://www.midwayautosupply.com. falconvan Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 I dont know what kind it is but it must be solid gold judging from the price. Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 One oz. treats 10 gallons of fuel. The CD2 is the cheapest and most effective lead substitute on the market (sodium-based). A one pt. bottle will treat 160 gallons of gasoline. Let's put it another way: 10 tanks of gasoline or about 2700 miles of driving. That's a cost of about 90 cents extra/tank or 1/3 cent extra/mile. It's even cheaper if you buy by the quart or better yet 6-pack case. I like it and I have been using it for over 8 years. My brother-in-law (an ASE certified Master Technician, UTI valedictorian, and VW dealership shop foreman) swears by the stuff in his toys. It's pretty cheap insurance, doesn't mess w/ the catalytic converter, and cleans the fuel system. Quote
Reg Evans Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 I would suspect the rascal who started this poll. I don't know Norm.......I caught this cad trying to steal the hood ornament off my 38 not too long ago. Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 I dont know what kind it is but it must be solid gold judging from the price. Gold is going for ~US$1000/oz. nowadays. US$10 is a far cry from US$16,000. Besides 1 oz. treats 10 gallons. Quote

Merle Coggins Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 I run regular 87 octane in everything I drive and I don't expect that to change when I get my truck out on the road. And 'round these parts all that's available is 10% ethanol gas. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 at 3.42 a gallon..expensive gas...! Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 at 3.42 a gallon..expensive gas...! When I was in NM two weeks ago, I paid $3.65/gal. I even researched on the 'net before I left to see who had the cheapest gas in town and shopped there. Shell and BP charged even more. The cheapest gas I bought on my trip was $3.50/gal. 85 octane gas is $3.20 here in Loveland and people are lining up to buy it. Shell is charging over $3.60/gal for the cheap stuff. I wonder what gas prices will be like the end of October when I drive my Neon to Chattanooga. Quote

Its $3.919 for regular and over $4 for other grades at the station closest to my home. The local paper is running contest to guess when local average price will hit $4/gal for regular. Most guesses are for some time in May. Others are extending their guessing to include $5/gal in time for Labor Day driving. This area has some of the highest gas prices in the nation. Between technophilia, environmentalism and gas prices there is a reason that the Toyota Prius is the #1 selling car in Silicon Valley. Quote
Guest rockabillybassman Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 I did'nt post in the poll, because our regular is 91, which I use, and we dont have ethenol..... yet. Quote
wallytoo Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 i just run regular 87. can't get it around here without ethanol during the winter. Quote
