Bingster
The moderator may take this down as being too political, and no parties or persons are mentioned, but it is a real scary scenario that I knew would be coming and now it's slowly beginning. Anybody who owns a classic car would benefit from this video shot by a classic car guy who lays out the facts. I cannot get rid of this video. plymouthcranbrook
Well if mileage checks become a standard I will save a lot on taxes. Both on classics and modern drivers.
TodFitch
This is really close to being over the line for politics on this forum. This has been going around a number of old car sites for the last week or so. I have read the actual questionnaire that was sent to some collector car owners older than the 1975 model year (i.e. before evaporative controls for fuel systems were installed on cars) and I have read the response to reporter’s questions to the air quality management district. The questionnaire is pretty short and asks how many miles/year the car is typically driven, is it typically parked inside or outside, when parked is a gasoline stabilizer added, etc. The management district says that it simply data collection to update its computer modeling of air pollution. The questions seem to back this up as they are all directly about use of the car that would effect the release of unburned hydrocarbons. The general reaction to this on the Internet seems to be hysteria.
FarmerJon
It is a shame that so many places feel compelled to censor any and all posts that might be construed as "politics " when it comes to the loss of our rights. "When they came for the trade unionists, I did not speak out; I was not a trade unionist. When they came for the Jews, I did not speak out; I was not a Jew. When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out." -Friedrich Gustav Martin Niemöller "We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward." -Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn
Sniper
That's how it starts. We're just asking questions is all.
DJ194950
Seems to me that there are way more than enough on line places to express your political opinions. This forum does not really need to be another, thank you! DJ
Tom Skinner
Why is it always: The Sky is falling, The Sky is falling? No matter what anybody says, I will continue to drive my Antique Car. Just like that. So trying to scare people when there is no reason just doesn't work for some of us. Please keep crap like this off this site. Oh and by the way I'm not in either insane Extreme Political Party. I am an Independent, Unaffiliated or whatever jackass moniker someone wants to try to label me as. Keep the Waa Waa's off this site. If you don't like California, or its laws - MOVE, don't cry like a victim. P-15 - d24 is for guys that fix Old Cars and Drive them. Like real men, with wrenches in their hands. Bingster your in Iowa what do you give a rats ass about California Laws. Steve Lehto doesn't look like a car guy to me. One other thing don't answer any surveys asking idiotic questions about your old car, your only feeding the idiots that ask them. They don't own or maintain your old car - you do. Drive your cars. Argh take this down or lock it. Its made for scaredy pants
Sniper
There are multiple states that have adopted California's nonsense. https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/our-work/programs/advanced-clean-cars-program/states-have-adopted-californias-vehicle-regulations
P15-D24
Before I lock this thread just a couple reminders: You all agree to a Terms of Service (TOS) when you sign up to the site. One of those terms is no political or religious discussions. Very specific reason for this restriction, I've seen numerous other forums destroyed by a few zealots who think forums like this are a platform for them to express their views. It's not. If you don't like the TOS don't visit. And don't forget it is a mopar car/truck site, period. It's not censorship when you agree to a TOS and then violate the rules. It's just being rude. The solution is easy: if you don't like the rules: start your own site. Regarding the actual video I watched the whole thing and the title is click bait. The most often used word in the video is "could", not would. Pure speculation and fear mongering on something that may or may not happen. Great way to monetize your YouTube channel. I personally have four classic vehicles in DMV on nonop status but I didn't get a letter from CARB. Is this a potential issue in the future? Sure, but then contact your government representatives to express your opinions and concerns. Or move to another state where you can agree with the laws. If you ever saw the air in L.A. basin 45 years ago you will understand why California has CARB. At least now the sky is blue not dark brown. The reality is as time goes by there are less and less "vintage" cars on the road and the issue will become moot over time. Probably the only relevant issue in the entire video is how to fairly off set the tax loss non ICE vehicles will cause. I will leave the post up so other can review the video if they want. Lastly, please don't forget it is a mopar car/truck site, period.
