Doug&Deb Posted February 27, 2022 Report Posted February 27, 2022 I’m getting ready to start the rebuild on my spare engine. Who are some of the vendors for parts? I know Kanter sells a complete kit but I’d like to see what other options are available. Also, since I’ve never done this before can someone please list what parts should definitely be replaced. I have a pretty good idea but I don’t want to miss anything. Thanks. Quote
keithb7 Posted February 27, 2022 Report Posted February 27, 2022 (edited) These guys did alright by me. I upped my 228 ci engine to a 237 ci. Got 98% of my internal engine parts from VPW. https://www.vintagepowerwagons.com/online-parts-catalog No I don't have a Power Wagon. A 38 Sedan. Yet, with a little research you'll learn internal parts are very similar. Edited February 27, 2022 by keithb7 1 Quote
DJ194950 Posted February 27, 2022 Report Posted February 27, 2022 Kanter's is fine if Chinese parts way overpriced do not bother you. They have all sizes available or at least they did. Others mentioned have been good as will as Terril Machine has been mentioned here many times. Egge is very good, just not the cheapest, but if quality matters I do not mind a few $$ more. Just confirm with them all parts are US made before paying $$. I believe they are, but- _ Just one opinion. DJ Quote
Bryan Posted February 27, 2022 Report Posted February 27, 2022 Rock Auto, Andy Bernbaum, Vic's Dodge parts, VPW, Kanter, Robert's, etc. Bernbaum seems to have the cheapest timing gear set. Melling oil pump from Rock Auto. Vic's sells individual tappets/lifters with cheap shipping for each. Quote
Doug&Deb Posted February 27, 2022 Author Report Posted February 27, 2022 Thanks everyone. Food for thought. Quote
LazyK Posted February 28, 2022 Report Posted February 28, 2022 (edited) check with your machine shop. they should have reliable sources. as far as what to replace ,beside rings bearing and gaskets, I was taught to always replace the oil pump. For our old flat heads I would also replace the water distribution tube Edited February 28, 2022 by LazyK Quote

Doug&Deb Posted February 28, 2022 Author Report Posted February 28, 2022 Thanks Keith. That’s about what I have listed plus a few I hadn’t thought of. Quote
DJK Posted February 28, 2022 Report Posted February 28, 2022 May want to do some research on the failures of the Melling oil pumps. The Freewheeling Tony Smith will completely go through a pump before putting in in an engine. 1 Quote
Sniper Posted February 28, 2022 Report Posted February 28, 2022 Tony has a thread on his FB site showing what he does if you are up for a DIY. Otherwise he has, last time I looked, a couple of pumps he's already done. Quote
