JerseyHarold Posted October 20, 2021 Report Posted October 20, 2021 My garage-cleaning saga continues. This air filter looks like a Mopar but want to be sure and also pin-down the years it fits. The air filter for my '52 has more of a 'dome' lid without the ribs. Any help appreciated. Harold Quote
greg g Posted October 20, 2021 Report Posted October 20, 2021 Clamp says mopar, my p15 ones looks just like that except the clamp is missing. Those clamps are appreciating in value as they get scarcer. Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted October 20, 2021 Report Posted October 20, 2021 I have that air cleaner that came off of a 1950 Dodge Wayfarer. The decal says Industrial Wire Cloth Co. It also fits my 48 DeSoto, but the 48 DeSoto came with a different air cleaner made by AC Spark Plug Co. From observations of old cars for the last 40 years, I believe those ribbed oil bath air cleaners made by Industrial Wire Cloth Co. were used on the 49-52 Plymouths and Wayfarer Dodges. The larger cars like Chrysler and DeSoto and the Dodge Coronets used that larger dome-shaped air cleaner. I had one on my 50 Chrysler, but I don't remember who made it. Quote
capt den Posted October 20, 2021 Report Posted October 20, 2021 the one on my 54 windsor looks the same only a lower profile. goes on a carter 1bbl. capt den Quote
plymouthcranbrook Posted October 21, 2021 Report Posted October 21, 2021 Looks just like the one that was on my 52 Plymouth before the conversion. Quote
Doug&Deb Posted October 21, 2021 Report Posted October 21, 2021 I’m running the same thing on my 52 Coronet. Mine was on a flathead I got that I believe is from a 58 truck. I have the domed one also. Quote
Leo White Posted October 22, 2021 Report Posted October 22, 2021 I have a 52 Plymouth Cranbrook and it looks exactly like the one on my car Quote
JerseyHarold Posted October 22, 2021 Author Report Posted October 22, 2021 I've been looking at online photos of air filters and I think Mopar got them from various suppliers depending on year and factory. There doesn't seem to be consistent use of the 'ribbed' type vs the 'dome' type. Does this sound reasonable? Quote

Also sometimes the Detroit factory may have had a different supplier than Cali. The one difference I've seen between newer and older is the height of the bolt hole for the brace. I had one all painted up for my p15 that probably came off a p23 and the hole didn't match up. Quote
Frank Gooz Posted October 23, 2021 Report Posted October 23, 2021 That filter looks just like my 1950 Dodge Coronet filter. Is it an extra you have?? Quote

Yes, it's an extra. I tend to want to keep it, but my wife says 'sell' to make some room. The discussions continue.... Quote
