TravisL17 Posted May 16, 2021 Report Posted May 16, 2021 My family and I spent the day cruising with the couple that we bought our Meadowbrook from. We were driving the Meadowbrook, they were in their unrestored 52 Olds 98. They are the ones responsible for resurrecting the Meadowbrook from a storage unit and turning it into what it is today. It was their first old car they bought and owned it for 21 years, now it's our turn to enjoy it. We cruised The Great River Road along the Minnesota/Wisconsin border, stopping at a scenic overlook on Lake Pepin. Then we turned onto an old county road that wound through the back country hills of Wisconsin. He took us to the area where his grandmother grew up, showed us his favorite spot in the world that was so peaceful you could almost hear a pin drop outside. Then we stopped for lunch at an old creamery before winding our way back up the River Road to his place where we all sat outside in the sunshine and talked about cars and life. We've put almost 5k miles on our Meadowbrook in the 2.5yrs we've owned it, and today counts as my favorite miles so far. Get out there and make memories with your classics. You won't regret it! 13 Quote

Go Fleiter Posted May 16, 2021 Report Posted May 16, 2021 beautiful! We have to wait for nicer weather here in Germany. Thanks for sharing these pics!? 1 Quote
rrunnertexas Posted May 16, 2021 Report Posted May 16, 2021 What a nice place to cruise and enjoy! The pictures sure are nice too - thanks for sharing those. It has been a few years, last time visiting I drove that same route in a Hemi Challenger, both the Wisconsin and Minnesota sides. Would enjoy doing that again. 1 Quote
knuckleharley Posted May 16, 2021 Report Posted May 16, 2021 (edited) Hard to believe anyone could find a unrestored 52 Olds in Mn that is is THAT kind of condition. It must have never been driven in the winter. Edited May 16, 2021 by knuckleharley 1 Quote

I have the install instructions. They were in the car when I bought it. I'll have to ask the PO where he found them. 1 Quote

You won't regret it! those wayside rest stops in Dairyland are really great. And obviously the only place you find em is on the 2 laners. Picnik tables and great views like Lake Pepin and little trout streams up nord. The Best. I always cruise with foldable capt chairs 2 Quote
Young Ed Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 Somewhere on the WI around lake Pepin is an awesome toy and car museum that of course I can't remember the name of at the moment. The eagle center in Wabasha is awesome too 1 Quote
ccudahy Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 @Young Ed are you thinking of Elmer's Auto and Toy Muesum in Fountain City, WI? Quote
TravisL17 Posted May 18, 2021 Author Report Posted May 18, 2021 We've done the eagle center in Wabasha twice. Lark toys in Kellogg is the one I know of, haven't been there yet. First time on the river road through there was 2 years ago on our way to Torquefest in Dubuque IA. Such a beautiful drive. We plan to take this same cruise again in the fall. Quote
cheesy Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 If you saw a bunch of bicyclists in tweed, that was the British themed Lake Pepin 3 Speed Tour. 85 miles around Lake Pepin over two days on old British built 3 speed bikes. https://3speedtour.com/ Actually more fun than it sounds. I usually go but skipped this year. The church at the top of Bay City Hill where your nice photo was taken is a 'catch your breath and have a snort stop' for many of the group. Nelsons' Creamery is the final fortification stop before the final slog into Wabasha. 3 Quote

TravisL17 Posted May 18, 2021 Author Report Posted May 18, 2021 We were wondering what all the bicycles were about! There were a lot! I assumed it was some sort of vintage bicycle run since nobody was riding anything modern looking. That's quite a ride on a bike like that! We also saw a whole group of Mazda Miatas (what's the proper plural for Miata anyways?) out for a drive. Nelson Creamery is where we stopped for lunch. No cyclists had arrived by the time we left. I'm going to have to stop in at Elmer's some time. Another great reason to make the trip again! Quote

Some are even still sober by then. May have to do Elmer's myself next time I'm up that way. 1 Quote
Worden18 Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 Travis, you're closer than I realized. Nelson's creamery is a frequent stop for us. I live in Winona. We should think about a get together/cruise. 1 Quote

cheesy Posted May 19, 2021 Report Posted May 19, 2021 I spoke with some of my buddies who were on the bike ride and they saw your car. A couple of them thought it was mine and I had to remind them that, although the same color, a 48 DeSoto and a 50 Dodge are not the same. I have thought about running the DeSoto up to Red Wing with the Raleigh in the trunk one of these days but I'm not sold on having it parked in Covil Park overnight. Although the semi auto trans would present a challenge, it's harder and more deadly to steal my sidecar rig. 1 Quote
