Merle Coggins Posted October 24, 2021 Report Posted October 24, 2021 I did a fall color ride several years ago. Should make time for one every year, but it just doesn’t seem to happen. 3 Quote
Worden18 Posted October 28, 2021 Author Report Posted October 28, 2021 10-27: Out for a cruise with the kids. The truck ran good. I had a problem with my blinkers when we were close to home again. They won't blink unless you operate the lever manually. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted October 28, 2021 Report Posted October 28, 2021 did you run out of blinker fluid? ? Quote

Have you verified they aren't blinking outside and it's not just the indicator having issues? My truck has a very erratic indicator light but from my checking is always blinking at the lights Quote

So I'm going to have to look at that aftermarket switch mounted to the steering wheel, which is super old. Quote

Only well made modern unit I've run across 1 Quote
David A. Posted October 29, 2021 Report Posted October 29, 2021 I think I would try just replacing the flasher before I tore into the switch. If you are still running 6 volts make sure your flasher is for 6 volts. 1 Quote
Worden18 Posted October 30, 2021 Author Report Posted October 30, 2021 (edited) 10-30: Out to pick up my daughter from work and go to the parts store for a new flasher. $6 later, my blinkers are back in business. Got a few thumbs up, and even had an early 70's Dodge dart follow me for a little while before turning off ? Thanks again to everyone for the tips and advice, I really appreciate it! Worden18 Posted October 31, 2021 Author Report Posted October 31, 2021 10-30: Out for an evening cruise downtown with the kids. Lots of people dressed up wandering around. We cycled the heater on and off as it was just chilly enough. Here we are parked in the neighbor's driveway dropping off some snacks for my wife. What an awesome night to cruise around in the old Dodge ? Quote
Worden18 Posted November 3, 2021 Author Report Posted November 3, 2021 (edited) 11-3: Out to the compost to haul our carved pumpkins away. It was a real joy to drive the truck. The heater works good. Edited November 3, 2021 by Worden18 Quote
Worden18 Posted November 5, 2021 Author Report Posted November 5, 2021 11-4: Out for a cruise tonight by myself. Stopped for gas. Washed the windows. 3rd gear mostly; about 20mph. Things to work on: -fuel guage (stuck on full) -speedometer (rests way below zero at a stop) -look into replacing hood straps.... speaking of which, anyone have suggestions on replacements? See pic Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 5, 2021 Report Posted November 5, 2021 Hood straps... I just purchased a 1" black nylon web strap and cut the lengths I needed. I folded the ends over to have double thickness under the clamps. It's been working good for nearly 15 years now. 1 Quote
Radarsonwheels Posted November 5, 2021 Report Posted November 5, 2021 Wow mine doesn’t have hood straps how do they work? Mine has struts that unfold over center to hold up the hood when it’s open. Quote

Mine has struts that unfold over center to hold up the hood when it’s open. The props hold the hood open, the straps limit the travel of the hood. Without the straps you're two hood halves could fold in far enough to touch each other. Edited November 5, 2021 by billrigsby 1 Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 5, 2021 Report Posted November 5, 2021 Up thru the B2 series the hoods use prop rods with limiting straps. Starting with the B3 series they upgraded to the hinged type hood support. 1 Quote
Worden18 Posted November 12, 2021 Author Report Posted November 12, 2021 11-11: Took the truck out for a short drive before backing it into the garage. Then my son and I made out a list of to do's. It's nice to see the B1C and B1D side by side. No pics tonight, sorry. Quote
Worden18 Posted November 17, 2021 Author Report Posted November 17, 2021 11-16: Together again. ? With the B1C in the garage now I can take care of a few things. Right now....out for a cruise with my son. 1 Quote
JBNeal Posted November 17, 2021 Report Posted November 17, 2021 FYI them straps are listed in the parts manual as cut from stock to 17" 1 Quote
Worden18 Posted November 17, 2021 Author Report Posted November 17, 2021 Hey fellas, quick question on the steering box. I was looking at the exploded view in my manual and I don't see a drain hole? There must be one, yes? My gosh I'm bad with blueprints. ? I want to try that corn head grease. Quote
JBNeal Posted November 19, 2021 Report Posted November 19, 2021 The drain hole is the bottom plate held in place with 4 bolts...removing the top cover and the pitman arm, the output shaft should be able to be removed. additional information - steering gearbox overhaul 1 1 Quote
Worden18 Posted November 20, 2021 Author Report Posted November 20, 2021 11-19: B1C needed a new battery. Got that done, then did some alley cruising with my son looking for old cars. Spotted a mid-60s Buick and an early 80s Impala or Caprice. The truck's heater was nice. It was super chilly. I really enjoyed driving the truck, listening to the whine of the transmission, the steady purr of the engine, and feeling the smoothness of every turn. My son mentioned he likes the sound of the transmission. Here we are post-alley getting a snack. ? 1 Quote
Worden18 Posted November 20, 2021 Author Report Posted November 20, 2021 Part of our cruise took us down by the lake. Second pic is after our cruise in the garage. Sorry I had to crop the heck out of the photos...the site is only allowing 1.53mg or less instead of 3? Not sure why. Quote
Worden18 Posted November 20, 2021 Author Report Posted November 20, 2021 11-20: Thanks to Dave72dt I have new hood straps. Someone mentioned 17" for the length. That was a no-go, at least for my truck. 18 1/2 inches was about perfect. I burned the ends of the straps to keep them from fraying, and took a hammer and punch to the cowl bracket on the driver side as it was all bent up. The last picture is the old straps. Quote
