billrigsby
This brings us to the end of roughly 1995, and at this point life changes (woman) and work tends to taper off, who am I kidding, work ceases! Added some rubber and wooden supports to prevent water pooling on the tarp that she gets draped in. There she sat, moved to Divide, Colorado in 1998, some time (maybe a year) after that, drove back to California and picked it up. Sat in Divide til 2012 when I moved to Florissant, Colorado, sat there until 2020. After selling the Subaru, Jeep, Van, Willys and Attex 6 wheeler, decided to start back up. Found this Forum, and the rest is history (or at least posted here). ? Here are links to what I have done so far in 2020..... License Plate Restoration Redoing Brake Cylinders Block - Machine Shop So, now we are up to date on this thread. dcotant
Proud of you! My 49 (Clementine) has been waiting since 1996 to get back on the road and finally is. I have had it since 1975 and was pretty much a daily driver until 1985 or so. Then in 96 there were too many things that needed fixing for me to drive anymore. Life for me changed in 85 ( kids ). But now she is rolling on the road again and I took care to handle rust and pulled what i needed from 52 parts truck ( rest in peace JR ). Hope to drive this baby until the kids take my license away. Oh and by the way, all my repairs were done with oxy-acetylene welder. Oh and also by the way, seeing those parts hanging from chains in your shop, pretty much what my barn has looked like for the last 6 months. billrigsby
Finally, now that the Holidays are over getting back at some of this. Reassembled the carburetor today. Its been sitting on the counter for months. Glad I took a lot of photos during dis-assembly because this diagram is the pits Wish there was a way to 'bench-test' so there are no surprises later on. ?
billrigsby
The thread on the Deluxe JC Oil Filter got me started on not only reverse-designing the label but since I pulled out the filter, decided to clean and paint. Not too cold to paint but too cold for paint curing, so in the house it goes. The winds have picked up so color tomorrow. Still trying to ID the element that came with this, will also need new mounting brackets, these are not correct for a B1D.
Merle Coggins
Use a Baldwin JC405 filter element. Don’t waste your money on the Wix/Napa version. You’d learn a whole new vocabulary trying to get them to fit. Edited February 20, 2021 by Merle Coggins

billrigsby
Was looking to find the ratio of the rear end, this was the only markings I can find, wonder if they mean anything to anyone, may need to pull the cover and count. Also decided to clean and check the drums, I had put a thick coat of grease on them 30 some years ago, for the most part they look okay, one rear has some rust to emory cloth out. The brake slave cylinders do not look like they have stood the test of time all that well, knocked one of the rear pistons in and saw some rust, will need to remove all of them and inspect, possibly replace/repair I cannot for the life of me explain what has caused this wear ring on the inside of one of the rear drums, there are no innards, just wheel cylinders? Nothing on the inside has any wear marks, it has to be recent (rolling in and out of the shop) or it should be rusty? It also looked like there were marks in the grease. billrigsby
Well Dang! Was looking in the wrong place, looked through the parts manual and found... Do not like the options, guess it could be worse..... My Willys had 4.11s and would climb a wall if it could keep traction, had to put an overdrive in it just to not get run over on the highway, oh well just go around me. ? Brake cylinders tomorrow. billrigsby
Went through all the brake cylinders this AM, disassembled, honed, cleaned and reassembled. I think I will be okay with them, we'll see if there are any leaks. the one from the right rear was the worst (same wheel that had the rusty drum). Also need to replace one of the cups, has a small nick in it.

billrigsby
Previously on "FINALLY - My 1948 B-1-D Build Thread, 33 Years Later" Got the canister all painted, still working on a decal; still not sure what to do about the mounting bracket, the one I have is definitely not correct compared to other photos, If any one has any good photos and dimensions for the correct one I would appreciate it, do not have a good shot of the back; And today finished the decal application and a coat of clear gloss, happy with the results..... Applying a coat of clear after an item has been sitting is always a "Gosh, I hope this don't bubble moment"! ALL GOOD ? billrigsby
Today's piddling around results, painting, decal application. Not using this filter, using the JC DELUXE, but since I was at it, probably put this on EBay once the project is finished. But not until, I've learned the hard way, nothing goes away until its all buttoned up. Edited March 26, 2021 by billrigsby
billrigsby
Some gauge work today, the housings were previously stripped and repainted Cleaned up and ready for assembly. Brass rivets from Tandy Leather Assembled housing. Checking Temperature gauge accuracy before assembly, these are all NOS so should be accurate. That looks to be pretty close to centered between 160° and 212°, looks to be pretty close to accurate. Assembled gauged cluster. On to the speedometer.....
