pflaming Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 I just figured out that the up / down left margin arrows are approval / disapproval arrows. To be able to disagree anonymously is absurd. I thought this was an open forum. I note I got two NAMES who liked the same post that also received two down arrows. Quote

Hopefully instead of getting into rant they will vote down and move along. Also someone may disagree with a post and just doesn't want to get in a battle over who is right. We are going to run with for a while and see how it plays out. So far it has hardly been used so lets give it a try. Quote
pflaming Posted September 6, 2016 Author Report Posted September 6, 2016 I'm alright with that, but would like a name with it. I don't mind alternate viewpoints, so if I have a name I can pm it and probably learn something, I use pm in that way, nothing personal, just honest research is how I see it. Quote

I checked the admin center but didn't see a switch for viewing users. I will put in a support ticket to IPS to see if the capability is available. 1 Quote
ggdad1951 Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 other forums I'm on there is ALWAYS a way to see who voted how... Quote

BigDaddyO Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 Well then, we'll just never know who votes how. I got a 'no' vote for what I thought was a reasonable suggestion with no explanation as to why. I guess I'll just stick to making smart ass remarks and not giving a hoot who dislikes them. 2 Quote

I'd like to vote on that comment, but see no arrows 2 Quote
pflaming Posted September 6, 2016 Author Report Posted September 6, 2016 Question: are our emails monitored? Inquiring minds . . . . . Quote
Merle Coggins Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 I don't see the voting arrows/numbers on my computer but I do see them on my iPhone. They are huge and between every post, not on the left margin as Paul stated. They are very annoying. Merle. Quote
_shel_ny Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 The thing that I find annoying is, as was pointed out in another thread, that the vote takes the post out of the normal sequence that it was posted in. That can be a bit confusing when you are trying to read/follow a thread. Some sites have a little thumbs up/thumbs down counter that indicates agreement/disagreement that can show what viewers think. The vote up/down, to me, does not seem to serve any useful purpose. If you like what someone posts, hit the like. My paycheck stays the same either way. I don't post for approval. I post in an attempt to be of some help. 2 Quote
Young Ed Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 What Shel said. Anyway to default that the threads are post order rather than voted order? Quote

It does not seem to stick: If you come back to the thread later you have to change the sorting again. And it is only on the one thread: It would be nice to have a per account preference for that. Or even to change the site wide configuration so the default is sort by date rather than sort by vote. 2 Quote
rb1949 Posted September 8, 2016 Report Posted September 8, 2016 These voting arrows seem quite useless serving no purpose. This site is for information, not rankings. I'd like to vote DOWN the person who thought it was a clever idea. Hope they get removed soon. 1 Quote
BigDaddyO Posted September 8, 2016 Report Posted September 8, 2016 I vote we keep them. They seem to annoy a lot of folks. 2 Quote
