I've been googling for about an hour trying to find some

#12 x 5/8" Slotted Round Head Wood Screws with no luck.  the local hardware stores don't carry any either.  I've found one place but they want you to buy 300 at a time.  Any and all help appreciated.

Wow. Once I logged in as a business they want $23.60 for 100.  Might as well order the 300 for $15.  Can't believe it's so tough to find a 5/8" round head screw.

12 will work.  I found some phillips type at home depot.  will go with those if something doesn't turn up in a couple of days.   They fasten the hood braces to the hood.

Are these parts made of wood ?  You are asking about wood screws .

no but the under hood braces use really course threaded screws.  Wood screws are the only ones that I can find that look the same.

Casper......what EXACTLY are these screws for?.......you mention the under hood braces.........are these screws originally a hex head or a button style head with a single slot using a very coarse thread?......I don't suppose you have a pic?......andyd

I know, I know.....lol.......I just went and had a look at the hood braces on my 1940 Oz Dodge( well 1940 Plymouth to you yanks....lol)........Casper....your car uses a 2 piece side opening hood doesn't it( as MY car does) ........lol.........and you have a pair of hood braces that stiffen the hood AND the rear braces have a wire hood support that is held onto the hood centre hinge by a pair of 5/8th long LARGE threaded sloted screws......and the same 2 screws hold the brace at the front onto the hood centre hinge......so I would think you need at least 8 if you include both sides............my car uses the same screws.........I might have some spare somewhere but from Oz to Alaska is a long way..........lol........now if you need different screws then I'll go back into my corner but I think these are what you need........maybe.............lol..........let me know...................btw I think these same screws are used on all 30/40's mopars with a side opening hood.........you can just see the wire hood support in the upper edge of the attached pic...........regards, Andy Douglas

LOL........Casper........that's them........its Friday night here in Oz........I'll check what I have tomorrow morning...........my 1936-42 Plymouth Master Parts book lists 8 required of part # 132979 for the 1940 P9/P10 Plymouth( same as my 1940 D15 Oz Dodge)..........as I said I am pretty sure that these should be the same for any mopar that uses the side opening hood with that wire hood support or rod as its called...........now we know what you need........and as you show they sure as hell DO look like a wood screw..........lol......regards..........Andy Douglas

looks to be nothing but a tapping sheet metal screw..the taper along with the larger gap in the incline plane can lead one to think it is wood screw...

my restoration specialities catalog does not show slotted round head in a #12...Phillips is available in 3/4 or 1/2
