Jared Duramax Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 I have been reading and learning as much as I can before I picked up my new to me 1950 Dodge. I do not know all the details on this truck yet other than the obvious. It will need lots of work but I cant wait to take on the project. My plans so far are to keep it as original as possible with slight modern upgrades. Let me know what you think or if you have any advice. Thank You Jared Quote
RodFru2u Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 Hey Jared, Nice looking project you have there.Welcome to the best source of information about these trucks on the internet or anywhere ! Get the beast running and safe and drive the heck out of it. Quote
Brent B3B Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 Welcome Jared, any photos of the inside? I'll be curious to learn what that is on the cab behind the drivers door. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 may be out on a weak limb but looks like it could be an antennae base of some sort... Quote
Jared Duramax Posted January 11, 2016 Author Report Posted January 11, 2016 Welcome Jared, any photos of the inside? I'll be curious to learn what that is on the cab behind the drivers door. Its is an antenna mount but from what I can tell there is no slot where they had a radio. I will get some pictures of the inside today. Quote
pflaming Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 Before you remove all the exterior paint, take clean the surface, you may be very surprised at how much of the original paint is hidden. I certainly did. 2 Quote

Jared Duramax Posted January 11, 2016 Author Report Posted January 11, 2016 I washed the truck really good before it got dark but it was to late to get good pictures of it clean. Here are some of the interior. Quote

Even after I cleaned it up today it is alot better but not good enough for me to just leave it. Quote
pflaming Posted January 12, 2016 Report Posted January 12, 2016 Hey, hey! Easy now, I think I'm the only one so loyal to dodge trucks I rebuilt the same one twice! 3 Quote

Jeff Balazs Posted January 12, 2016 Report Posted January 12, 2016 Hey, hey! Easy now, I think I'm the only one so loyal to dodge trucks I rebuilt the same one twice! Paul......tell Jared why you had to "rebuild" it a second time. The truth and nothing but the truth. Maybe he can guess from the name "El Scorcho" and the very unique "patina" Jeff Quote
Jared Duramax Posted January 12, 2016 Author Report Posted January 12, 2016 It looks like round 2 has more of a blue and purple patina mainly towards the front. That is not the look I am going after 1 Quote
Jared Duramax Posted January 12, 2016 Author Report Posted January 12, 2016 I just ran some numbers and it looks like it still has the original 218 and is toward the last of the 1950's built. 43,860 miles is that a lot of miles for majority of these trucks? Quote

That is not the look I am going after Nor anyone else who knows how he got it to look that way. I think I can safely say that his methods are a bit too extreme for most of us. Jeff Quote
pflaming Posted January 14, 2016 Report Posted January 14, 2016 Hey, if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen! No pain, no gain. Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted January 14, 2016 Report Posted January 14, 2016 (edited) Again......IMO Paul's recipe is not the best way to start off a new project. Jared you will want to keep yours internal combustion........Paul seems to think external combustion is an acceptable way to create patina. We all know different. Have fun with your new project. Looks to be similar to what I started with. Jeff Edited January 14, 2016 by Jeff Balazs 1 Quote
1TonDirtyMopar Posted January 14, 2016 Report Posted January 14, 2016 (edited) Man quit picking on Paul. It's not his fault the cat got in the garage and knocked over the gas can that spilled causing it to start a fire. On the plus side I like the patina! Edited January 14, 2016 by 1TonDirtyMopar Quote

Besides the only cat to blame is the old cat behind the wheel. And there is a thought that really blows my mind.......sharing the roads with Paul... I imagine that you can still smell that patina. I have 3 that had around 80k on them and from the condition of one of them it could have been more .......or just more used and abused Quote
