Quite a few people here on the forum have seen it waiting in the background at previous BBQ's at my place. With my wedding coming up in June 2016, the fact I'm driving my truck in a mini truck parade of Pilot-House trucks from the church to the reception at my house.....well.....he wants to be in the show. lol. So I'm building him a running truck....no bling no killer paint....that will come later. 1950 B2B Diplomat front-end 318 LA engine 904 torqueflite 8 3/4 axle 3:23 suregrip Durango front seats or similar The truck is rough and needs lots of love, and at this ranch....there's plenty of that....so it will be a Vintage Mod. The Clements Tailgate BBQ is April 2nd 2016.....it should be looking great by then. Feel free to come over and lend a hand.... 48D picture notes: not really in sequence to start with....the cab has been stripped somewhat.....we took off the doghouse....and ripped out the 1/8 steel plate bed floor....it was covering up the very brittle wood bed. 4 Quote

Lots to throw away, mostly the lean burn set up, miscellaneous brackets and the two bbl manifold/carb. I have a 360 manifold that will take its place for the moment.....it might be replaced with an aluminum one later. 48D Quote

But I thought John was all gung-ho on the little diesel golf cart-like yard haulers he's been cruising around in lately? lol That powertrain and suspension combo should be a "humdinger" for that B2! Looking forward to this one. I should be back in your 'hood around xmas. So keep me posted on your work party dates. Will it get an A-1 or Stihl logo on the doors? 48Dodger Posted December 14, 2015 Author Report Posted December 14, 2015 (edited) Ok....moving to a 6210 Holley spread bore (Q-jet replacement). I had an old race motor with a pair of 360 heads that are still good. So we'll be using those on a standard 318 short block. No piston upgrade, so low end torque is the motive. Its been a lot of moving motors around and tearing things apart and measuring to get where we are right now. Pulled the 440 off the best engine stand I had.....pushing threw several 318's and 360's on stands behind the shop.....putting some on pallets and the sort....lots of fun. lol. As we went threw the carbs I had, it seemed the 4160 was going to be a good fit, but I realized a spread bore with a bit of juice would be even better. So its being sent off to be rebuilt as opposed to me doing it as to save some time. The 360 heads are "dusty" so we'll be dropping them off to be cleaned up to start things off. Inventory of the brackets, pulleys for the PS, ALT, and water pump are done too. 48Dodger Posted December 25, 2015 Author Report Posted December 25, 2015 Thank you Todd! Dropped the 360 heads at the machine shop and went over the build plan. HP springs and normal cleaning etc... Some notes on the idea of putting 360 heads on a 318 block. The 360 head breathes better but there is a compression drop. The chambers are larger than the 318 heads and the 318 pistons do not reach the deck completely. KB 167 pistons fix this and increase the compression. Building the 360 heads is a better idea since they would fit better with future upgrades. For the time being, the replacement pistons will be standard. 48D Quote
48Dodger Posted January 5, 2016 Author Report Posted January 5, 2016 Machine shop gave us the cost on the heads.....@ 490 for new valves, guides, springs, valve job, etc......this of course after testing the heads for a rebuild, which they passed. lol Again I know this isn't a L6 engine and folks here who don't know me, let me just say....I save everything. Seems like a similar build Kev. What is your manifold vacuum? What are you jetted at? What was the duration and overlap of the cam? Sounds like a 1/2 race cam Did you advance the cam? How did you determine your HP? On my brother's, I'm expecting the vacuum at about 10 hg, using a stock cam, no advance (straight up factory), and the 650 spread bore. I won't even hazard an HP number...lol. 48D Quote

I did start with a Summit (Holley 4010) 600 cfm, then went to a Holley 750. Made a noticeable difference. Quote
48Dodger Posted January 7, 2016 Author Report Posted January 7, 2016 Oh ok...the 4010 is a square bore. I definitely think a 750cfm with a 360 is better. My 360 is a 850 double pumper with 11:1, soild lifters and etc etc tested 500+ hp.....But my brothers will be docile, a parade runner if you will. So a spread bore 650 seems like a good place to start. Getting some low-end grunt and lil starting line growl...lol. 48D Quote
