Discovery channel is looking for potential T.V. people to go to Cuba and fix up cars. You have to be pretty resourceful as they won't be shipping in parts so swapping, trading, junkyard crawling to make them run would be the flavor. Talked to the guy today and I am pretty sure I would be a bit short technically. I told him I was just a phone or web site away from anything 'cuz of you guys but I don't think he was looking for that.

Who knows, maybe you'll be famous after ...

It is really amazing to see some of the things they have come up with to repair the old Cuban cars......that is--

old cars IN Cuba, as I don't think there are any vehicles actually made in Cuba.  (per Tim, er Plym)  lol

And they often have only rather primitive tools and equipment.  I've noticed there is a fair amount of

old Chrysler products there.

Don't think PP would work out as they appear to be looking for people to get rid of Patina!  ;)

Oh, man, Cuba is just loaded with old Chevys.

This is really what the guy I talked to was on about. You would need to be someone who can Kludge / jury-rig / rube-goldburg / (insert U.S. Service term here) these vehicles together. I don't have that expertise, all I have is you guys ...  ;)

I read an article several years ago about how Cubans were overcoming the lack of parts for American cars.  Fella was making piston rings by hacksawing them out of a metal pipe.  The article didn't mention how long they last, or what they did to the cylinder walls, but by that time I imagine most of their American engines were pretty worn out anyway.

I watched a couple of episodes of Cuban Chrome this week. I have to say I like it and especially the spirit of the people.

And with a bit more shiny stuff my truck would fit right in. Me and my little buddy might just have to get kicked out of here. If he chews another pair of Mama's shoes she might just have us extradited. It's cheap...and sunny....the foods good....so is the rum.....they love old cars.....and there is some fairly untapped fishing there. What more could a guy ask for?

Just call me Cuba Libre. Buddy will be the one wearing the fidel hat. :D
