pflaming Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 I mentioned in my Phoenix thread that Darlene sprained her ankle. Was wrong again, she fractured two bones, surgery probably on Wednesday. We are back home after a day at the hospital. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 next time PP take your wrenches out of your back pocket so Darlene will not hurt herself kicking your butt out to the shop and from under foot. 1 Quote
48Dodger Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 Sorry to hear that Paul....it looks to be a Bimalleolar Fracture. Her next X-Ray might look like the ones in this article. 48D 1 Quote
pflaming Posted November 17, 2015 Author Report Posted November 17, 2015 48D, thank you for the link. It's always helpful to have some insight into what is going to take place. The pictures were. Especially helpful. Quote
RobertKB Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 It has been stated many times that it is better to break your ankle than to severely sprain it. Sprains can take months to recover from and even then not totally. Broken ankles need repair but recovery is faster. I have been told this by doctors and others and still find it hard to believe. I have never broken a bone and hope I never do. Sure have sprained my ankles a couple of times though and it is very painful for some time. Anyway, wish your wife good luck! 1 Quote
Ulu Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 Sorry to hear this Paul. Life is tough enough when you get old, without that kind of stuff. God bless her, and my wishes for a fast recovery. Quote
pflaming Posted November 20, 2015 Author Report Posted November 20, 2015 Surgery this evening at 5:30. We are learning to adapt and getting on fine!, Quote
Desotodav Posted November 20, 2015 Report Posted November 20, 2015 Paul, please wish Darlene well for me and I pray that she has a speedy recovery. Must have been one good butt kicking she dished out to you... was it for burning down the garage and losing the flame cat, not painting any of your vehicles, or dragging too many vehicles home over the past few years? Even you gotta admit that you had it coming! 2 Quote
pflaming Posted November 21, 2015 Author Report Posted November 21, 2015 48dodger, here is Darlene's X-ray. Night has been a bit tough, but pain pill should kick in shortly. . 1 Quote
Brent B3B Posted November 22, 2015 Report Posted November 22, 2015 Man that looks like it would hurt! Paul those screws oddly look like some that might have come off your truck... I see an eBay deal down the road 2 Quote
pflaming Posted November 23, 2015 Author Report Posted November 23, 2015 Yesterday morning the intense pain subsided some 80% and more today. Now comes the 5.5 weeks off that foot. Being idle is not her normal, so May be a real patience tester. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 I have seen a little wheeled thing for people with a disabled foot. The patient kneels on the affected leg and uses it like a sort of scooter. But of course her doctor would have told you about it. 1 Quote
Ulu Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 Oh yeah, I own a few of those... 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 Ulu, that thing is what gives a number of folks broken bones...never got a broken bone riding one of those but it was the very vehicle to a severe cut...I got as much use for one of them as I do a burnt out Soviet rocket engine Quote
Ulu Posted November 25, 2015 Report Posted November 25, 2015 I own over 2 dozen custom-built boards, so I suppose I have the disease and it's likely incurable. I belong to a club where every skater is over 40 years old, but only a few of us are over 60. Anyhow, it's not for everyone. Paul I hope that Mrs P is feeling better. Quote

Ulu Posted December 1, 2015 Report Posted December 1, 2015 I don't bomb much anymore. I'm just doing distance rides for exercise. Kicking and pumping. Quote
Dennis_MN Posted December 2, 2015 Report Posted December 2, 2015 I had a similar break 15 years ago, got zimmer plates on both the tibia and on the fibula. When the Dr told me to start putting weight on the leg, starting with 50% I would use the scale in then bathroom every time I had to pee. I would push down on the scale and record the weight. It took a few weeks to get to 50% because of the pain. After that, I would use a swimming pool starting in the deep end and moving to the shallow end. It took a few weeks of that. I walked pretty good but at six months I couldn't walk on uneven surfaces, so a friend suggested Z-Coil shoes. (www.z-coil.com). I still have all of my hardware in my leg and no problem walking. Tell it takes a while 1 Quote
pflaming Posted December 6, 2015 Author Report Posted December 6, 2015 Oh my, I know she thinks she'll be dancing in January, ouch, we are a long way from home and traveling slowly! Quote

She had an achilles injury. It's a "knee scooter". Edited December 16, 2015 by Ulu 1 Quote
Ulu Posted December 21, 2015 Report Posted December 21, 2015 So, Paul, is Darlene getting a pink knee-scooter for Christmas? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 21, 2015 Report Posted December 21, 2015 I understand it that if he does not get off this forum and get to her beck and call a tad more timely, it is the who will need a handicap mobility device.. Quote
Ulu Posted December 21, 2015 Report Posted December 21, 2015 Have you met Darlene? She's a sweetie. Any trouble she gives Paul, he probably deserves twice. 1 Quote
