I did a quick search on here and couldn't find any info on this. Wondering if anyone is running this Langdon's hei distributor and what your thoughts are.

I'm not concerned about originality and thought this might improve drivability and possibly give a slight performance bump (at least 300hp I'm sure ha ha). My distributor and everything in it are 40+ years old and I figure by the time I rebuild it (vacuum advance module, cap and rotor, points and condenser, and coil) I'll have a similar amount spent.

Seems like a no brainer. Thoughts?

I've had one for years, and quite like it.  Unlike many here, I ran my vacuum advance off of manifold vacuum rather than ported vacuum from the carb, and feel it runs better that way.  I don't think there is any horsepower gain, but do think it starts better, but my engine is so far from stock that it's probably an unfair comparison to a stock setup.

I imported one of the HEI/Hall Langdon dissy for my 41 Plymouth Coupe a few yrs ago, installed it with manifold vaccum and whilst others may have had issues I thought it was the best thing I did to the car......instant starts, (I could stand outside the car, lean thru the door and turn the key...varoom! instant start), better running, better fuel economy and just a much better car to drive........would thoroughly recommend it..........I ended up selling the car 2 yrs ago....still miss it....lol........it had been converted to 12 volts when I got it.........heres a pic of the dissy installed, not a good pic but all I have, I used 8mm silicon leads, and 50thou plug gap...........andyd

Andy we get you like it,  but better fuel economy and a much better car to drive sounds a little bit tough to believe.

Why?.......I used the car pretty regularly and it appeared to use less fuel after the swap, it definitely started quicker and ran better, seemed to be just a better overall car to drive............believe it or not is your choice but I would not hesitate to get one again if I was in the same position........ and as it had been "restored" before I got it to have a later key ignition/start what I said about leaning in thru the closed drivers door to turn the key was indeed true, key is half hidden by the steering wheel............anyway my 2.5 Oz cents worth......andyd

I'm with Andy on this.  Most of our cars have less than perfect ignition systems and carbs, and consequently sometime hiccup a bit, and the stronger ignition is much more likely to fire the fuel mix than a 60 year old setup.  If you've got your carb and distributor perfectly dialed in you may not notice the difference, but for the rest of us .....

OK, thought Don had done a search, and that was the link to the results   Now I understand

You don't necessarily need the HEI distributor.    You can adapt the Chrysler distributor from a slant six.  Its the HEI control module that really helps.

Tim, that's true however finding a slant 6 dissy here in Oz is not as easy as it maybe in the USA.......plus I had read good reports about the Langdon dissy so went with that......was not disappointed and it fitted straight up.........andyd

I did do the search but when I posted the link to my search results the only thing that showed up was the link to the search function and not the links I found.

The biggest kick I get out of this hobby is:

Setting the Points, and Setting the Timing, Static and then startng the Engine, checking the Dwell with a Tack and Dwell Meter

Setting the Dynamic Timing with a Timing Light, and then using a Vacumn Gauge to set the Carburator.

You might as well stick to new vehicles if your not able to do these things. Now I realize (as I get older) age, or health may prevent

these tasks, however, if that's not the case then QUIT BEING A GIRL and just pull up your panties and tune her up. hei hei hei L.O.L.

Now don't get sensitive on me, I am just joking around.

I once ask the young girl behind the counter at a local auto parts store where I could find a petcock. She called the manager.

You gotta admit that modern shops these days are trying hard to cater for the future generation though - see attached photo.

It appears that I now either need to get a friend or grow a third hand to shop in the 'express' counter. I sense troubled times ahead !!

At the risk of going off topic, I can't resist this.  On my first job as a hardware store clerk, back when hardware stores existed and sold only hardware, A small elderly lady who owned some apartment buildings on 5th ave. came in and asked me for a "six inch flat bastard".  I had a lot to learn including how to keep a straight face.

Try working retail when Toy Story first came out and someone calls back to toys on the radio for a price check on a 6inch Woody
