Tired of the same ole cars in classic car shows/swap meets

We also do an annual garage tour and road trip.  The tour usally goes to a minimum of 3 locations with a picnic lunch at the last stop.  This event is VERY well attended because not only are you driving your car from location to location, we have see garages that run the spectrum.  Rat garages, like mine, very small space and cluttered, to those that could rival a museum.

The road trips are also varied.  We have driven 200 mile to watch the Blue Angles and 60 miles to attend Blues in the Park concerts.  All have been enjoyable and so far I have not had a breakdown (Knocking on wood.)  I did get several unsolisited offers to buy my car and should have taken one on the Delta 88..

I have to say...seeing the same yellow fiberglass "American Graffit" look alike cars is one pet peeve...another is all the signs that say "Please dont touch me unless you are naked"....I have never had a car in a show...I tried a year or so ago when I had a Willys Jeep but I was too late register for it so I parked outside of the festivities....

my 2 cents

Not my idea of fun, sitting in a lawn chair all day. Getting the wrinkled nose of people because my car is not a trailer queen. I have more fun going to Walmart for eggs and seeing people walk over to it, take pictures, and want to ask me about the car. I get more smiles and thumbs up outside of car show.

I was at the gas station this week and had people walk up and talk to me about the car. It seems people like the 48 way more than the 67 Galaxie I had last year.

BUT in the foothills of California is a show, potluck lunch, even free lunch if you have driven a distance, and in fact, if your vehicle is temporarily "down" the sponsor will bring his rig and haul YOUR VEHICLE to the event and give YOU a trophy, may even put you up for night! Now that is what I call service!

Are you talking about the Clements Tailgate BBQ that's more like a family reunion then a parking lot car show? lol....Yah, if you take the time to drive out to my ranch

to hang out with everyone, I'll come tow your rig if it breaks down. Thanks for the kind words Paul.

For some odd reason, I don't think winning the "Hard Luck" award is on the top of everyone's list and Paul does put up some pretty stiff competition for it.

I've lived lots of different places in my life: SE MN, NW AR, NE CO, NW MO, NE KS, and NW IA.  I've also driven through NM and NE with my P15 more door.  I've experienced this with regularity: strangers asking about the car.  I love it!  The only exception was NW IA.  Not once did anyone show any interest in the car.  My '46 was the only car I ever saw about made prior to 1964.  No one ever bad-mouthed my car; they just didn't care.  It might as well have been a 2012 Dodge Caravan.  I wish I could say that I miss NW Iowa, but I don't.

" . . . My '46 was the only car I ever saw about made prior to 1964 . . ."  They did not notice the '46 because that was what was in their garages as a 2nd car!
