Nostalgic for former cars?

Does anyone else miss the ones they bought and sold on the way with this hobby?  I started in the 90's with a 47 Plymouth Speclal Deluxe.  I drove it for several years and finally decided with the cracked block and rusted out body mounts it would be too expensive to fix (big mistake although money was a lot tighter then).  My next purchase was an e-bay purchase "sight-unseen" from 1500 miles away.  It was a 60 Chrysler that looked great in the pictures but when it arrived we had to push it in the garage and a rebuilt transmission was only the start of the many repair issues with that fraudulently advertised car.  But it was a beautiful 20 footer and got noticed! After taking a bath on that car in 2003 I bought a 53 DeSoto Powermaster 4 door from a nice trucker in rural Indiana. The car had been in the family since new.  Unlike the other cars it didn't need a lot of work except for brakes - but it too was a 20 footer with an older paint and interior redo by the prior owner.  I didn't care for the tip-toe shift and never got the kick-down to work properly. When i sold that car my wife said this is it.  Well you know how that goes when you get the itch. I started looking again within a year and drove all over the Midwest looking for a P-15.  None of the ones I looked at were in good shape or priced in my unrealistic price range. (I should have spent the 5 figures to get a restored one)  I ended up with the 50 Dodge Wayfarer I still have.  What has changed is I am through looking around for something else and determined to stick with it - enjoy it and stop worrying about it as an investment.

only the one...they are all bought to fill a particular want, yearning or immediate need in my life..later they like old socks...time to discard and move along...as the one I miss the most..it is of foreign persuasion...I will not mention it here..many folks here have made it well clear they do not shared my like for foreign cars  even though they were less produced in a 10 year run that the P15 popped out in a month...lol   take all kinds and they say I am narrow-minded cause I  hate chebbies...go figure eh...

I miss the first P15 I ever had (when I was 16 years old).  It was purchased new by my grandfather, became our family car, and finally ended up as my car.  It was my transportation from home in Berwick, PA  to college in Williamsport, PA., and the car I used on my first date.  I sold it when I needed money to fix up another car I bought.  I've kicked myself ever since for selling it.  For a while I tried to track it down, but to no avail.  I had the serial number of it, but an inquiry at the State Police barracks, and Penndot was no help.  :(

Oh, come on, be brave. I for one love French cars, and have a VW and a Triumph.

I miss more cars in my life that I can count.  Amazing how time fades the late nights working on them in the cold to get to work the next day. I too had many furre'n cars. 2 Sunbeam Alpines(a 64 and a 66), a TR-3, a TR-4A, a 1969 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe. a 1972 Fiat 128 and last but not least- a 1969 MCG-GT. Everyone of them a continual project. We won't discuss the endless number of Plymouths, Corvairs, etc that I also want back.

Wish I could find a duplicate of my first new car - a 1970 Duster 340/auto.  Had it while in the Navy and unfortunately it got flooded during a hurricane while in storage (I was underwater on a sub at the time).  Got everything dried out and moved back to upstate NY after discharge.  Soon realized that the road salt combined with the salt water bath the car had taken were a recipe for severe corrosion so I traded for a 73 Dodge van done up something like LAKOTA169's.  I'd dump my truck in a heartbeat if I could find the right 340 Duster again.

Bought this in '85, brand new, and a two seater. It's a trans am, and was converted from an factory optioned two seater by a company named Autoform. I drove it for three years until my wife informed me that we would be needing a car with more seats. I miss this car, would love to know what happened to it.

Of all the cars I've had since 1961, I can't think of any that I wouldn't want again.  Top of the list, 1930 Chrysler 6, 59 Pontiac Star Chief, 58 Triumph Mayflower, 60 Olds 98,  Geez, name it, I want it.  Even the 53 Ford Mainline I had for a short time would be cool.

What made me look for 40's MOPAR'S is they are what my Dad owned.  When I was born he had a 41 Chrysler (on blocks) and a 41 DeSoto he was driving.  They were followed in 1954 by a 49 Black Chrysler New Yorker 4 door with the red plaid upholstery.  I loved riding in that "limo". I know it was a terrible gas guzzler and my Mother had difficulty steering it.  He sold that car to a neighbor in 1959 for $100 who after 2 years just for kicks drained the crankcase and ran the straight 8 until it seized.  Even as an 11 year old I was upset about it then.

The other former car I wish I could have back was a 66 Pontiac Tempest Sprint hardtop with the OHC six and 3 on the floor I bought in college with 22k miles.  It was a beautiful body style and that engine was red-lined at 6500 rpm. I went in the Navy and sold the car and never saw it again.  But I am getting off topic discussing that GM car.  :)

Although I've owned vehicles from other manufacturers over the years, the cars I miss the most from my youth were both Chrysler products...First was a '48 Dodge coupe and the second would be a '37 Chrysler coupe. I have replaced the Dodge and if I found a '37 Chrysler coupe in decent shape I would be tempted to buy it as well.

To go off subject a bit,I've always had a love of cars, trucks and motorcycles.Coming of age in the fifties, vintage vehicles were plentiful and affordable and even with my limited income I was able to acquire a few.Where I lived at the time they could be found in very good condition and as others have expressed I wish I had  been able to hang on to a couple of them.

Anyhow, the interest for me continues to this day.I realize now I'm not bullet proof and my need for speed has been tempered somewhat -that said, although I enjoy driving the vintage cars at a somewhat leisurely speed,I still have a couple of motorcycles on the road...

Still looking for that '37 Chrysler coupe

My first real, legal car (which I miss) 1950 Buick Special. Paid $25 for it. Straight 8. Drove it from Utah to California and back to college. It never left me stranded. 69 TR 250. 64 GTO. But like it's been said my father owned MoPars. He was the service manager at James F. Waters in San Francisco. The largest DeSoto/Plymouth dealership (I was told "in the world" but that could have been hyperbole). We got a new Plymouth every year until he died in 1961.

My two Uncles traded a 36 Plymouth Coupe several time for over 40 years, that got me to find my 38 Coupes, I have for 28 years now.

Long ago I had a 1960 Chrysler 300, swivel buckets seat in the front, and bucket seats in the rear, center console from

the dash to the rear, 413 engine, 2 four barrels.        Last week I drove a new Chrysler 300, sure brought back the memory..

I have published a book titled "Cars I Loved and Lost" which tells about the cars I have had over the years, the first one being a 1935 Plymouth rumble seat coupe purchased at age 12 for $15.00. Do I wish I had kept all of them? I sure so.

I also have had many cars I wish I had the foresight to store. At 15, 47 caddy, 53 Chrysler convertible, given to me by mother's friend who didn't like tiptoe shift. My parents sold it & went on a camping trip upstate new York. They did buy me one of the cars I wish I had kept, 1953 Buick skylark convert.,red/white top. Uncle gave me a 1951 ford Victoria, 2 dr hdtp, another keeper. Other notable cars 57 & 58 Imperials, 57 & 58 Chryslers. I've had several vintage cars in last 20 yrs, just never had time, place or money to fix them up. Always wound up selling them. Finally wife agreed, went for the gusto & bought my Desoto, which is a driver, really nice survivor. Will post pics when I figure out how.
