Don Coatney
Pulled the heater this morning and found just one more reason that it was time to re-wire. I will disassemble the heater and investigate finding a 12 volt replacement motor. The line in the sand keeps on moving.
Don Coatney
Pulled the motor and measured it up. Found a 12 volt replacement that I believe will work. Siemens PM354. Folks on the old International and old Ford truck forums used this motor with minimal modifications. Found it locally at an auto Electric shop and I will pick it up tomorrow. Thirty eight bucks.
steveplym
Looks like a good find there. Those bare wires on metal are not good for anybody.

Plymouthy Adams
Siemens is just a brand name...they also go for the cheaper build in developing countries..
bbbbbb99
I have a local auto electric shop rebuild stuff like that anymore. They do great work and you get what you pay for.
Don Coatney
Bench tested the motor and it runs well. However it is polarity directional so I must hook it up correctly for proper air flow.
Don Coatney
New 12 volt motor installed in the heater. As close to a bolt in as is possible. Fresh hammertone paint, and bench tested. About ready to re-install.

greg g
Phil in Canada look for Hammerite RustCap. I have used both brands and I prefer the Hammerite, but Rustoleum bought them out south of the border. I think the hammerite covers better and has a better surface, though Don's looks like it came out pretty nice

deathbound
I have a local auto electric shop rebuild stuff like that anymore. They do great work and you get what you pay for. Ditto.......with all the junk made overseas, I'd rather rebuild my original USA made parts, whatever they may be, whenever possible. On another note, I don't understand why anyone would replace a set of original gauges with an aftermarket set that doesn't fit the type of car they're being installed in. Oh well, it's their car anyways, so I don't need to understand.
Jeff Balazs
Nope, Sand is stationary, line is not Oh if that were only the case. Sand is sand because it so readily moves. Truly there is nothing stationary about it. And if you draw a line in the sand it is bound to change with time. I have enjoyed this thread ..... even if you chose the wrong media on which to draw your plan. Jeff We need a "tongue in cheek" symbol in the worst way.
Don Coatney
Wrong media? I built my castle using sand. It is still there just not as visible as it once was

Don Coatney
Friday afternoon my Granddaughter's boyfriend Lumpy is coming over to learn all about re-wiring a car. He seems like a personable kid who is willing to learn and has expressed an interest in old cars. True test will be when he gets some tools in hand. My plan is to have him crawl under the dash and remove all the old wiring. Plan on cutting all of it out as it will all be replaced. Once that is done then the dash cluster will be removed and the new one (that I have pre wired) will be installed.
