It would appear that Paul's hood ornament was never on a Dodge made pickup of any year.  So where could it have came from ?

I believe its from a car of some sort probably export/Canadian.

The 1948 ornament, 2nd down from the left is a match to mine. The base of the horn is serrated like mine and there are short diminishing serrated marks on the base behind the ram's horn like mine.  This is the only place I have been able to find a match. It may have been short lived following the war because the ornament to its immediate right is a 48 - 51 and quite likely was quickly adopted. I am returning to Globe parts next week to take a picture of the grille piece it came off of. That is a 39-41 piece. Will post pics when that is done.

I went looking for the hood piece that would have been on my '53 (truck) and it wasn't even an option that I could find.

I have both of the Bunn books and enjoyed them when I knew nothing at all about these trucks. Now I don't read them because I have Don Coatney and  Plymouthy Adams to keep me set straight!

I wish I had a copy to read of the other book by that author..is seems by reports it has better data in it and would be an asset.  For entertainment, the other fills the bill, seemingly others agree.  The one book I have here has been proven wrong a number of times by a number of truck owners here when I have quoted from its pages..enough to say that it is not a proper reference source.  That pretty much sums it up..

I have the reading book...thus my critique is a bit harsh as I was expecting more...maybe one day will get to puts my hands on the better reference book..

PP I assure you this ornament was not from a Dynasty....

Close but no cigar.....my guess is it's off an '84 Aries wagon!

Windshield glass installed yesterday, much warmer driving home. Door and rear glass next week. Will run the truck down the road today to find anything that needs attention. Got to make it to the BBQ in two weeks.

Ornament update. I'm quite confident that the hood ornament is from a '46 Canadian Dodge car. This ornament was mounted on a formed metal the upper part of the grill and was the ornament for the lower entry Dodge. The Deluxe Dodge had the top and forward ram's head and it was mounted on a cast piece which was chrome plated. The Deluxe ornament was a very popular one and could be selected as an option.

Good to see your progress, Paul. Drive it a little every day until the Q. The daily road test may bring out little glitches that need attention.

That is not from a '46 Canadian Dodge D25. I have mentioned that in two posts above. You will have to look elsewhere for its origin.

not D25 is for sure..he speaking a butterfly hood Dodge for Canada..

They did build a very small number of D24's in Canada so that is a possiblilty for the origin of the hood ornament. However,  I would have thought it would have been the same as the US one.

A word to novice/new wrenchers. I am installing the temp gauge, it is always very near the last thing i install because if that coil touches a hot wire, the chances are that the tube is severed and the gauge is inoperable. I very lightly put masking tape on that coil for installation, don't want to damage another temp tube.

Will do a true shake down drive in a couple of hours. Could do it now but need to tidy up a few more things. Dang, the detail just is endless!!!!

If it were me I would simply disconnect the battery while installing the gauge.

Good advice all around. I have an aftermarket hood release cable now after my horn wire touched my original one.

Duh, sometimes it gets embarrasing to learn even the simplest and obvious answers. What is obvious and common to some is game changing to others, TKS Don, much appreciated.

Good reason for a disconnect switch, for use when ever working on electrical. Do the same thing on my truck I do on my house, "trip the breaker" then repair.

Since all routes through the amp gauge, could not a switch be placed there?

Better yet. Turn off the entire system. I put in a keyed battery switch mounted in the seat flange a short distance from the battery. Works great. One of my favorite mods. Makes working on the electrical system a breeze and it is a good theft prevention device.

Took a short road shake down drive with a friend following. (1) I have a tach on now but it is reading high, 4000 rpm at 65 MPH according to my friend's speedo. At 65 I still had more pedal, so TOP SPEED unknown, will have to go to Bonniville to determine that!. (2) The truck drives as it did but seems a bit lighter (some bounce) on the rear axle, I did put 225 75 R15's on the front with 235 75 R15's on the back but I don't think that would affect ride. (3) lots of fumes. . . now the engine has sat for two years and so it has to burn clean again, gut carbon dioxide ??? (4) oil 40#'s, temp 160, amp needle not moving. (5) I put a later starter on so I have a button starter now which I really like, starts on the 2nd rev,, no choke, no foot pedal, just starts and idles very nicely, (6) Door and rear windows on Friday, maybe that is drawing excessive fumes into the cab. So shake down has started. 4 miles today, 20 miles tomorrow, 50 miles on Friday and 100 mile RT on Saturday up to the Big Trees and back.

Wish me well.
