Search on ebay. Ther are lots of blank keys listed for the various Mopar. Also need to know which year that you are looking for and also if car/truck.

Also assuming that you do have an original key for the ign and also one for the door lock for the locksmith to make a copy from.

I need a blank as well.  So glad you posted this question because I was just going to do the same.  I took a door lock off of the truck b1bkevin was parting out at the BBQ.  Gave it to a local locksmith to have a key made for it.  He gave the lock back on Monday and said if I can find the blank, he could make the key, but he can't figure out what to use for the blank.

I saw a post a while back where someone gave a picture of the blank and the code or number for a door key.  Anyone remember that post?

Thanks,

Tom

That key wouldn't be right for my locks. My keys have groves on both sides. I had researched this a while back and had the key number, but I can't find it now. I got lucky when I wanted to make a copy of my one and only key. The locksmith had a couple of keys with the Chrysler Pentstar logo that worked.

not really but finding a lock smith that will care to do the work may be bother..so far I have been fortunate enough to pick all the locks on the cars I have acquired without a key so to release the locking pin and extract and rekey the cylinder to a key I have on hand about the house or find at a swap meet to fit the tumbler..

I bought some similar to that from ebay a few years ago. Once I got them I realized that they wouldn't work without the groves on both sides. I contacted the seller about it stating they wouldn't work for me and he refunded my money but didn't want them back. I think I pitched them out when I cleaned my desk out a couple of years ago. (It needs it again) I guess I should have kept them for someone else that could have used them. Hind sight...

On a whim, I stopped in a local locksmith shop after work and found the round Pentstar keys. I guess I lucked out there, although my fuel pump crapped out on the way home from there (pivot pin came out) so maybe that was the end of my luck. :D

Never toss them old or new keys as they may come in handy some day. When I was about 14 years old I had an old furd field racer. The ignition key was so worn that it no longer worked. I told my dad and he told me to pull the switch and let him have a look. This car was never destin to be on the road again so my dad taught me how to use a hacksaw to remove the top of the switch thus releasing all the tumblers. I did so and re-installed the switch. Car could then be started with anything that I could poke in the hole and turn. I dont think GM was very savvy in there lock security in the 50's and 60's, The ignition key from my dads 52 chevy fit the trunk of my buddies 56 chevy. The trunk key from my moms 56 caddy fit the doors and ignition from my buddies 61 chevy. I was once told that GM used only 6 different keys during those years.

well there are so many combination of tumbler lengths and of course average of about 5 tumbler per cylinder...My 1990 Ramcharger will work in the 1991 Dakota that is still in the family..I remember also my dad used the key to his 61 belvedere and to my aunts surprise started her 62 Valiant and drove it down the road for a test drive...she had just bought the car...she was not happy that the key would fit her car I can tell you that..

At one time I had both a '63 Dodge D200 and a '82 Plymouth TC3/Tourismo. The key blanks were slightly different and the factory key for one would not fit into the lock for the other. But I noticed that the key making station at the local hardware store had only one blank. A close examination showed that the blank was grooved to fit in both the earlier and later Mopar locks. Had the blank keyed to the new car and took the locks for the truck to a locksmith and had them re-keyed to match. Down to one car key to carry.

One or more POs of the house I lived in then had put dead bolts on every exterior door and no two locks were keyed the same. Felt like a school janitor carrying all the keys for that house. Ended up swapping out all the locks to the one brand that could be re-keyed and got everything keyed the same. Also got all my pad locks keyed to that too. Down to one house key to carry.

Never did get around to figuring out how to get the house and the vehicles to use the same key. :)

I think it is strange but some folks believe it is a status symbol for carrying and displaying a huge key ring. Must make then feel inportant. I once worked with a guy (he was nick named bucket head for some unknown reason) who carried about 3-4 big full key rings looped through his belt so they were always visible. You could hear him jingling wherever he walked. I once asked him if he actually had knowledge of what all those keys fit. He replied positively so I asked him to name them. He did so. Then I ask him to unlock a door with one of the keys he named. Took him a half hour of trial and error to find the key but he did find it.

Keven;

So as it turned out the first blanks you recommended were the correct ones for my locks. The little ones with no slot on one side.

Yeah!!!  I now have a functioning door lock......wish it were on the drivers side....but oh well.

Thanks, Jeff

It's a pity that you are so far along with the project Jeff as I have some door lock mechanisms that would work on your trucks over there to give you a driver's side door lock.

It looks like I am making ground on having replacement stainless steel door latch springs (all 3 of them) made. I should know more next week and I'll update the other forum thread.

Well if you were to send one.......I am not afraid to make a few mods. :D

The current arrangement leaves something to be desired.

Please let me know on the springs......I am happy to import some here, I "made" a substitute that is working for now.....but it would be good to have the right item.
