Niel Hoback Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 I asked the guy "How much"? "How bout 10 bucks" he says. Stunned, I said nothing for a few seconds and he said "Make it 8"? "Yeah, yeah" I said. Keep looking, they're out there. Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 I think it was a fantastic find..man got just what he wanted for it..how could the deal be wrong? Just proves that hitting the swap meets and shows will still net a good find..but you must get out there to find them.. Quote
austinsailor Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 I got my flathead valve spring compressor at an antique outboard club meet for $2. Never thought to try to talk him down! Got to keep your eyes open. Gene Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 Bought my first 1750 for $5.00 at an garage sale a long time ago. The 2nd one I'm sure I didn't pay more tha $20.00. The prices today.....insane. Bob Quote
desoto1939 Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 You got the deal of a lifetime on the tool. Some people just want to get rid of stuff and then there are other guys that want to rob the people and then there are others that ask a fair price. When you know the original price of the tool and then add in inflation and then if the tool is har to find then you have to pay the asking price. You will get your moneys worth out of it on the first brake job. Also look at the tech section on how I did a demo of the tool at the AACA convention in Phila several years back. Do the major adjustment. put the drum and etire rim with tire back onthe car. Then do a minor adjustment with the upper cam then you will have great brakes. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote

Niel Hoback Posted October 1, 2012 Author Report Posted October 1, 2012 Yes, I was there today, but my find was at a steam show in Brookville, Indiana, last Tthursday. Were you at Sunset Hill today? Did you get any pictures of the Indiana woody wagon? Quote
greg g Posted October 1, 2012 Report Posted October 1, 2012 for 9 bucks you coulda made a couple of these.......... Quote
Niel Hoback Posted October 1, 2012 Author Report Posted October 1, 2012 Greg, I have made those with metal, but they don't accurately measure the drum oversize and let me set the shoes at the same diameter. Not having a drum gauge, I cannot tell how far out to set the shoe gauge. Besides, the hunt is most of the fun! Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 Looks like a deal from Santa and the Good Fairy rolled into one. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted October 2, 2012 Author Report Posted October 2, 2012 Thanks, I think of it as a "rescue tool". I like to think I saved it from rusting away in a barn somewhere. I gotta do some touch-up with gun blue to make it purty. Quote
