sam knopik Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 When I press the clutch pedal it wobbles to the left side and rubs up against the hole in the firewall. The squeak it makes is like you would expect, a very raw-bone chilling metal on metal type. I wanted to be able to just live with it but it seems to be getting worse. Is there a reason it does not have a tighter path to the floor? Thanks, Sam Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 your bushing on the pedal might be worn out, did you replace that? Also the clamp can be pushed in tighter against it. Quote

John-T-53 Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 The clutch pedal has no bushing between it and the shaft. It's only rotation with respect to the shaft is the free play set by the bolts on the clamp. Another reason for a wobbly pedal would be a worn hole in the pedal, or wear on the shaft. In my case it was the shaft, got a new new (NOS) shaft from VPW that took care of this problem. I originally tried drawing the clamp up tighter to the pedal but the amount that would compensate for wobble ended up being too tight, eliminating free play. 1 Quote

How it got bent in the first place I have no idea but it was! You wouldn't think that those heavy shafts would bend , but mine was bent too , in my 1941 . I put it in the vise and straightened it . Dennis_MN Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 That metal to metal sound was driving me nuts, especially when I have a 4 speed non-syncro trannie and I was double clutching all of the time. I found a block of Teflon and screwed it on the floor after pushing the petal all the way over. Works for me. Dennis Quote

My truck's clutch pedal is doing the same thing; wobbles left when depressed and squeeks against the floorboard. I plan to install Dennis's fix for now. I thought I read somewhere that to get the pedal off and replace the shaft, you need to remove the cab. Is that right? Thanks! Brad Quote

MBF Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 It was a while ago that I replaced the pedal in my 1 ton. I was able to change the pedal w/o even removing the floor board. A temp solution I used in the past was to take a piece of inner tube and rivet it to the side of the floorboard hole where it is hitting. It won't stop the wobble but it'll eliminate the fingernails on the blackboard sound it makes. Quote
jpwuertz Posted September 26, 2013 Report Posted September 26, 2013 I got a small piece of belting and cut a hole in it the size of the clutch and bolted it to the floorboard. The belting is stiff enough to prevent the pedal from wobbling also. This was an easy fix for the problem. 1 Quote
