Every once in a while I am reminded by the fact that although centered around cars this hobby is about....people.

That regardless of where you live or which side of the road you drive on this community here on the P15-D24 site is centered around "unique" people.....their personalities, integrity and "opinions".

That is our strength.

Which car you own, what year or stock vs. hot rod matters little and the combined wisdom of this forum trumps any one person.

The forum is a microcosm, a reminder that we are "caretakers" of rolling sculptures of automobile history. That a "low" cost car built 65 - 70 years ago can still do what it was supposed to and flies in the face of a world full of disposable commodities.

I know that as long as there is a caretaker for these cars they will live another 70 years and more.

So I would like to thank Jim for sharing the video that is as much about the "personality" of ownership as it is about any single vehicle. And please thank Mr. Pandya for giving the video his expertise and heart.

I have already told Robert that the videos were well received by the comments on them from the forum. Greg, yes we have a lot of good driving roads like these just 5 minutes from the house. Was much better 30 years ago when Georgetown was 6000 people,now its 50,000 people and the county is approaching 1 million people. When Robert suggested that we go up to Walburg to the German restaurant for supper that night I had no idea what he had in mind when he brought his camera equipment along, but I soon found out he wanted some pictures of the car and me. I had no idea that it would turn out like it did, I am extremely pleased about it all. On a side note starting Thursday the Lone Star Round Up will be getting underway with a free Bar b Que for all comers at the old Beyersville Hall in what was once a thriving farming community about 35 miles from my house and from Austin. The roads will be filled with traditional hot rods and customs on their way to Beyersville then on down to downtown Austin and South Congress for a good time cruising whatever else is happening.

Great story Jim, and some fantastic videography too! May you have many more trouble free miles!

Excellent vids and an even better car and owner to shoot them of!

I really look forward to getting mine to the same drivability as his so I can do the same thing...head out for a cruise!

I'm amazed at how the interior is so very similar between my 40 and his...back seat seems nearly identical and the door panels on his are just dressed up better with some chrome flash...color me alittle jealous....and the body is nearly the same lines as my 40 - yeah, different front end, but the rest is nearly the same. I love the flowing lines of the 4 doors...I should, I own one too.

I do have some questions about he car though;

-Is that an autometer 4k tack?{I was thinking about one of those}

-I never saw any shifting going on, maybe I missed it...is she and auto trans?

-I heard of some engine mods- dual carbs, exhaust, mini HEI and a cam- crossed drilled crank?...anything else?

-lastly, when she's doing 80-85mph{cool!} what's the tack reading with that 3.55 rear end gear...I'm looking into an overdrive auto trans with my 3.91which should yield nearly the same effect as a 3 speed with 3.55. I'm thinking for mine of an adaptor plate and a mopar A508 auto 4 speed{keep it all mopar!}...that trans is just an old 904 with overdrive.

The tach is an 8000 rpm unit I purchased from speedway. At the swap meet yesterday I saw a 4000 RPM tach, probably from a boat and a 5000 RPM sun with adapter for an eight cylinder car. The crank is not cross drilled, the old man who turned it for me added a grove behind the oil hole to extend the time that oil flows to the rods. The car has the original 3 speed and can pull from 15/20 mph in high to 70 without shifting. Robert edited out all of my shifting.80/85 is exceeding the max sustained RPM by a bunch. That speed 80/85 is in the 4000 RPM range.

40P10touting sedan, the OD transmission is a 70 percent overdrive unit which will render a 3.90 rear end ratio of 3.9 X .70 = 2.73:1 final gear ratio in high overdrive. With P 205 75 15 tires the rolling circumference is the equivalent of 26.22 inch diameter tire, although the resting tire will measure much larger across the tire, 27.125". Using the 26.22" diameter for 80 MPH with the 70 percent overdrive the RPMs should be approximately 2798 RPM at 80 MPH.

James, if you were ever interested, the autometer tach I was talking about is #2890 Z series low rev tach...easy to find nearly anywhere...roughly $100. It'll work on 4/6/8 cylinder cars but there's one lil catch - she needs "12v". Just in case you were ever interested...

A small oil groove ring around the journal and through{?} the hole...excellent idea and probably quicker and easier than cross drilling! The flatheads like added crank/rod oiling, or so I hear! Cranks are the weekest link - rpm wise.

80/85 is 4k!...wow...while I'm new to these engines I've heard they don't like much above 3600 and only a few engines are rated to 3800 factory...mind you, that's oem specs and factory builds- not modded.

Hey, would it be too much trouble to ask for pics of your engine?..or a link to such? I'd love to see it!

I doe not have any pictures of the engine, I take very few pictures and almost none of myself and my toys. On the trip west in 2007 I took less than 25 pictures, most of the country side on the way out and at Bonneville.
