48Dodger Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Someone mentioned the rear fenders on our trucks and raised an interesting question. Which do you prefer? The half round utility trailer fender (48-52) vs. the wrecktangular fender (53-83)...... 48D:D Quote
maverick Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 i like the round fenders myself. they better match the openings on the front. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I'm kind of partial to the round fenders since that's what's on my truck. In my opinion Dodge should have waited to change the fenders 'til the '54 model year. It makes the B-4 models an oddball in the B-Series. The '53 seems to be a transitial model. A "B+" if you will... B-Series up front/C-Series out back. Merle Quote
48Dodger Posted November 22, 2011 Author Report Posted November 22, 2011 i like the round fenders myself. they better match the openings on the front. Good point Maverick...can honestly say I didnt think of that. 48D Quote
Young Ed Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Merle I think truck makers did that as a way to spread out the costs of retooling. Look in the middle of the C series they changed the cab. Dads international pickup is the same way. He's got a 55 R series that uses the same front clip and box as the other R trucks but has different doors with bigger windows etc and a 1 piece rear window instead of the split one. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 How about you truckers post pictures of each so us carers know what you are rubbin. Quote
48Dodger Posted November 22, 2011 Author Report Posted November 22, 2011 Here you go Don. 1953 version.... Quote
48Dodger Posted November 22, 2011 Author Report Posted November 22, 2011 And the 48-52 version... 48D Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Tim, The first two pics you posted are trucks with '48-'50 noses and '53-up beds. What's up with that? Also, that's one heck of a load in the third one. Merle Quote
48Dodger Posted November 22, 2011 Author Report Posted November 22, 2011 LOL...good call Merle...just showin my un-bias approach to this poll..... 48D Quote
TheMoose Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Rocking the 53 style fenders! Looks more "Modern" than the "trailer " style, really matches the curves in the rest of the truck IMO. Quote

B1B Keven Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Sorry for the pic of a pic. Circa 1980. Hadn't even put the stainless grille back on. Quote
51 Fargo Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 goes without saying what I like Quote
pflaming Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I thought I prefered the '52 to the '53 until I compared finished trucks with both fenders. I prefer the '52 for the 'older' look but the '53's give a modern 'step side' view which is also very nice. It's a lot like the question' "Is it the girl or the dress"? Quote
John-T-53 Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Since I'm a '53 owner, that's the style I'm more fond of of course. Dodge liked them a lot too, I guess that's why they were made for so many years. When I first got my truck, I was unaware of previous style and then saw an older truck on the street somewhere. I thought "who's boat trailer did those fenders come off of?!!!" LOL This was way before this site was online so I was "uneducated" at the time....haha. 1 Quote
sniggle_t Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Beautiful truck! What wheels are those and what is that paint color called? Quote
TheMoose Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Beautiful truck! What wheels are those and what is that paint color called? Thanks! Not sure on wheels, someone said maybe off a 60's Diplomat police car. Paint is called Turf Green. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 The 1953 B-4 rear fender shape doesn't match the front fender curve. I'm all for the 1948-52 style. Quote
48Dodger Posted November 23, 2011 Author Report Posted November 23, 2011 Sooooo....are the "open wheel" votes from the flat-bed crowd ??? 48D Quote
Rocket-bob Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 Thanks! Not sure on wheels, someone said maybe off a 60's Diplomat police car. Paint is called Turf Green. Mine's in Turf Green too! Quote
