There was a question between Merle and I about the color of the letters of the Dodge on the tail gate. I painted my the same color as my rims (Argent)

While purusing the Bunn book for the rim size I came across on page 29 and another on page 48. I'm sure Merle will dig out his book and list the pages where White is the correct color.

What method did you use to paint the letters?

I taped off the area around the letters and then used a 4inch hard rubber roller. I only painted the tops of the letters but the pictures in the book show the edges of the letters painted as well. (as in Merles Truck)

Not entirely true Dennis. Look close and you'll see that I also just painted the tops but mine turned out a little wider than yours. I used a small foam roller and rolled over the letters gently. The foam roller covered a little more of the letter. I've also noticed that "The Book" shows more of the letters painted and I've been contemplating redoing mine to look more like the ones in "The Book".

I taped completely over the letters....traced the letters and used a exacto knife to remove the unwanted tape.

But I admire your courage!

I do have a question though. I have the correct taillight bracket and I believe I also have the correct license plate bracket, but as you can see the bumper hides visibility of the plate. What's up with that?

Thanks,

Hank

Maybe not factory correct but it suits me and my truck.....and grandkids. Taped off the letters and spray-painted with Chrysler Orange from the hobby shop.

I took the factory bracket off my B3C parts truck and put it on my B3B driver. The license plate hangs on the outside of the custom bumber probably installed by the dealer.

Hey Tim,

When going 150 MPH does it matter how you painted the letters?

Yes because you want all the people behind you to know what they lost to!

Yup... there you go Dennis. White it is. ;)

Hold on, Keemo-sabe! Pages 29 and 48 (and 116) are incorrect. The correct color, according to the errata insert that came with my book when I purchased it, is "argent." According to Bunn, this is aluminum.

My pages 29 and 48 (second edition) say argent for the letters and 116 says white. Possibility of as model break to make both correct? P. 116 is a B3. P.29 and 48 a B1-2? All the errata clips have been cleaned up in the new book so the question remains or is the pic on p.116 an error that was missed in both printings?

you be the judge, my un-touched, original tailgate (notice the letters are painted down to the base):

Yep, and they are painted Argent, just like most of the Bunn book says.

By the way, I think Merle took his tailgate off to paint it, while I did it in the vertical position using a hard roller.

I like to look of Merles where he rolled over the edge just a tad. It's readable without being sloppy.

I had my neighbor who does vinyl stencils on the computer make mine.

Did he keep a template so he could make more - like for the rest of us????

What did you use for rear bumper?

Notice that the size of the tailgate is for the lowside box which is pretty rare on our pickups. Also, the letter E and G are different.

Other than that little detail it is a nice job. Great for the previous series of pickups like Young Ed has.

Ya good point Dennis. Would work perfect on my truck. Do you have another set? My pickup could use one.
