What did the passenger do?

Its how you get the family "hook'd" on racing Don. There's a division that requires a passenger out here called the "bomber class". Its a great way to introduce potential drivers to turning left and such. It can help keep a marriage together to I bet....

don: i was just taking him for a ride, i sat in his car earlier myself.

that's just an oval track and noone cares if you have a passenger.

on the big track they do constancy runs, and only one car at a time,

so it's quite save actually.

where else do you have the chance to see these cars in action on dirt...

i really enjoyed it! and everyone is always really surprised what that old 201 can do... including myself!:)

here's some videos from last year and from last weekend:

you see, nothing too serious.

Good videos - no "garage queens" on the track :)

greg, the track exists since 1930 as far as i know.

they have regular dirt and speedway events with modern motorcycles,

and they really do it the serious way. already one person killed this year:eek:

i saw the pros riding there and it scared the heck out of me just to watch them.

if you try searching "teterow speedway" or "bergring teterow" on youtube you should be able to see more of it.

"rust 'n' dust jalopy" takes place once a year, this was the second time.

it's still nice and cuddly withut so many people coming, so it's almost afamily meet.

there will be another dirt course i'll go to if i can fix my heat problems.

i'll post photos here when i come back:)

robin,

it's too bad the hayride is on the same weekend like the a-bomber's this year.

and it is even worse that i don't have the money for both of it:rolleyes:

i've heard only good things abot the ride, have fun!

and post some pics for us;)

So Robin, was it thier brief description of on track activities that wa off putting;

'With ridiculously old cars whizzing round on four, three and occasionally two, wheels! Hot rods being driven hard and fast... which is what they were originally built for... not sitting in a field being polished! Have a go for guaranteed bowel movements and come back with a mouth full of dust and bugs. Entertaining and nutritious! (Now go and change your pants). This year sees both F1 and F2 Vintage Stock Cars on display, with friendly but lunatic drivers, showing their complete disregard of ever seeing another day on earth. Do they care?"

Or was it something you actually witnessed at a previous event, that keeps you from a lap or two of the dirt oval????

Besides, Plymouths handle much better than those buggy sprung Fords.

:D that's true, IFS is a great invention.

(*yikes* to the photo above. as a cowboy you can get to see al kinds of crazy stuff, even when you pee...)

together with skinny bias ply wheels you can have lots of fun,

even without big HP.

last years winner was a 41 Plymouth coupe, i posted the pics back then.

tom: absolutely, that's what the old bomber was shipped over here for in the first place!

wild headers, moose!

won't get those under my hood...

what brand was the body from?

The T was the one we built for that race. It was a 26 or 27, 4 door open car. We shortened it and narrowed the rear of the body to make it into a 2 door. It has a Blue Flame chevy 6(235) with custom Moose combo manifold and headers. The intake had spaces for three carbs, but we only found two matching carbs. I think it probably ran better that way.

The A sedan we raced in that video had a flathead V8, but my Plymouth beat it every time too.

Greg,

I was at the track last year when that Model A went up on two wheels, right in front of where we were standing.

Luckily, the guy saved it, although the passenger door flew open and his girlfriend nearly fell out.

It was SCARY!

For a couple of laps before that happened, I'd been pointing out to my wife that his front tire was buckling under in the turns and I thought it was going to pop off the rim.

Instead, the tire just dug into the dirt and flipped the car up.

Spectacular.

R.

Yeah, that was South Butler. It was supposed to become an annual event, but it was a long trip out there from Boston, and we never really heard much more about it.

It was a good time though, one of my best memories was seeing the wisps of smoke on the slick that was right beside me, with the roar of those pipes up front... Wouldn't trade that for the world.
