Barabbas Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Beth is very supportive, she'll lend an extra hand when I need it. She loves driving it to work when I need the Honda. I haven't done car shows etc. but we do take the Ol Cranbrook out on the road nearly ever week in spring and fall. Beth keeps asking when I'm gonna get and Overdrive so we can take a "real" trip Quote
boxer_inv Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 My better half isn't really 'into' cars that much, but given that she bought me "Daisy" for Christmas as a total surprise, I can't really argue that she doesn't encourage me! Seems she is feeding my addiction....! Quote
Oldguy48 Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 My wife encouraged me to to purchase the P15, and although she has no interest in "wrenching" on the car, I'm taking her recommendations on colors, and she insists on AC. And I'm OK with that because I have absolutely no color coordination abilities whatsoever. And if installing AC keeps Mama happy, I'm OK with that too! Quote
Frank Elder Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 If Mama's not happy, nobody's Happy! Quote
DutchEdwin Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 My wife got me into cars, by buying one from 1985 in 1990 that needed a lot of repairs (Korean brand) when we were still dating. As she did like US-cars from the 50th as I did she agreed we would buy one, if she could pick the model (and color ). So YES, she is supportive . The only thing...there were more thing to do then we expected . When time changed we didn't have the time to do the hobby things. So the project sat for a while. But now we realy want to get the car running for the summer. So when there is time, she NEVER complains when I'm out there. Quote
Greenbomb Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 Yeah, pretty much. Buys stuff for me and says to go for it, but has no interest in going to any shows. Like many others, if I croak today it will probably all be gone tomorrow, which sounds good to me. A little side story about croaking off: My 13 Y.O. grandson asked me one day what would happen to my car if I died. I said I didn't know for sure- why, did he want it? He says "Yeah, I'd like to drive it to high school". I says "Thanks alot, pard, that's only 3 years away!!!" He tried to back peddle on that, and we both had a good laugh out of it. Quote
bobjob55 Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 when i first found my car,, it was burried under a pile of parts and could only see front end and roof line .. my nephew said that my mom , his grandma,, said that it has to go .... then out came my wife,, i said LOOK... she said it has to have a dependable motor/trans ,, a/c,, she gets to pick color,,and made a list of things she wants on her car.. I asked her so i can get it???? she thinks that it is going to be her car... ok i said.. when i'm done with it.... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 and when you finish it, still driving it and she is not..you may realize how "when you're done with is interpreted by the wife" Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 Neil, its a Town Sedan Special on top of that... Quote
bobjob55 Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 see,,, i'm still learning on this site ... Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 `Me too. Thats why I keep coming back. Quote
1940plymouth Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 My wife is darned understanding about the old Plymouth, she will go for rides with me, but doesn't attend any shows with me. She says as long as the bills are paid, that is what counts:) Quote
Paul Hoffmeyer Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 My wife and I went on our first date to a rod & custom show in 1970 at the old Minneapolis Armory. Still go to weekend cruises together. She told me about 10 or 11 years ago that if I was going to get that thing done before I was too old to enjoy it, I better get busy!!!!! So, sometime this spring I hope to have my '45 Dodge pickup street rod on the street. Yeah, I guess she's supportive. P15 content, my second and 4th cars back in the '60s were a '48 Special Deluxe 4 dr and a '48 Deluxe Club Coupe, respectively. Which explains why I mostly lurk on here (re relevant thread) 'cause I don't currently even have a flathead six. Paul H Quote
Young Ed Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 I hope so Paul. I'm waiting to see this thing in real life at N st paul. Quote
blueskies Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Not much more than tolerant, but she did enjoy kicking Don's butt at the track... Pete Quote
knighthawk Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 My wife wasn't to enthused, so I thought , till one day she came home and said ''I found the car I want'' . It was a '69 Cutlass convert, in nice shape for $2500. That was about 15 years ago, she still has that same car. She goes to some cars shows, and sometimes brings her Cutlass (after I clean it up ) but doesn't care for the sitting around..... We were involed with a lot a car shows in and around Kerrville Texas, and then she preferred to work the regisrtration table, while I took care of the 'visiting'.......... Quote
james curl Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Knighthawk, I and my wife both grew up there and went to Tivy High, I will be going back for my 55 year reunion in October. My old friend who still lives there usually had a Dodge Charger, Challenger or a Plymouth Barracuda to show as well as a Volvo 544. He has since you left sold them and is showing the Volvo 544 and a Shelby Dodge Daytona Coupe that he has had for about the last 10 year. We left Kerrville in may of '72, moved to San Antonio and then to Austin. I left the Aircraft industry and went to work for the state aeronautics commission. Quote
knighthawk Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 James; There was a guy , I got to know there, had a Charger, ( I think ) and the Plum Crazy Cuda, I think he even had a Daytona,, he and his Dad were building houses and I used to go to the job site , and he'd show me what was going on , and answer all my questions. I'm going back ther in June for a wedding..............and am thniking of moving back there,,,,,,,, Quote
james curl Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 It is still some of the prettiest country in Texas and the drive on Tx 16 to Medina, then on St 337 to Vanderpool, and Leaky and then on across to Camp Wood. A lot of the Auto manufactures use San Antonio as the starting point then go to Uvalde and back tract to Fredericksburg and Luckenbach before heading back to San Antonio. They take all the new muscle cars and sports cars as well as Motorcycles there with the magazine journalist for their preview drive. Quote
DLK Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 My wife has never complained about how much money I have stuck into this hobby (a lot more than she has spent on hers!). She has only asked now that I stop changing hobby cars every 2 or 3 years and keep one and drive it. I consider that pretty supportive. I just need to get her more interested in attending club events. Quote
Young Ed Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 Dave was that yours? Heck of a difference 10 years makes huh? Quote
DLK Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 Dave was that yours? Heck of a difference 10 years makes huh? Yes and talk about huge. That 1960 Windsor just barely fit in my garage. I would still have that car if it hadn't been in such bad shape underneath. I got snookered buying the car on e-bay sight unseen. Quote
Powerhouse Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 My wife LOVES my Plymouth. It keeps me busy while she's sewing. She's always liked antiques though... Here's some pics at the latest Fort Mac Air Raid...drove the 39 about 2 hours north to San Pedro. Made some wooden bumpers with period styled signs. Quote
garbagestate 44 Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 If my Chrysler were to suddenly get real heavy and sink to the middle of the earth my wife's only concern would be filling in the hole made by it's passing Quote
