TodFitch Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 I haven't done business with Mitchell Motor Parts in Georgia for a lot of years, mostly because my car is pretty well done and I haven't needed parts that only they claim to stock. But I have listed them on my web site as a potential vendor for people looking for Plymouth parts. Today I received an email from someone who has been having problems in their dealings with Mitchell. If this is more than an isolated issue I will, at the least, make a comment on my listing for them. Or if the problem is wide spread, remove the listing altogether. So, what are your recent experiences with Mitchell as a parts supplier? Thanks! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 I have dealt with him off and on for a spell..been awhile though..he is subject to mistakes and getting him on the phone was always the only way to deal with Mitchell Motors..he always made good on his errors and quickly in my dealings..at that time he was a one man band..not sure if he still is or not..lots of stuff for just one person I am sure Quote
greg g Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 Bought some items from him couple time, once from his trailer at Hershey and once or twice from the catalog, by phone. Got some windsield gasket or door weather strips, can't remember now, but the installer said they weren't right, I sent them back for a refund with no problem. He was or who ever answered the phone was more pleasant than our buddy in Mass. (could that be where the term Masshole came from?) Had some good dealigs with Roberts also. Again on the phone. Quote
Andy Lorenzen Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 A Masshole is a term of endearment for some Quote
greg g Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 Yes but its hard to tell inflection in print..... Quote
sparkEE_ Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 My experience with Mitchell Motors is about five (or so) years old. It was definitely less than stellar. I bought a brass water distribution tube which was pricey, but I was delighted to find. After a couple months I was able to get someone on the phone - a kid that was working for him who told me he wasn't doing well (cancer?) and doubted I would see the part or my money back. I did finally speak with him and he told me he couldn't find the part, but hadn't cashed my check. I never got the part, and he never cashed my check. I think the lack of communication and the weeks spent trying to get someone on the phone were the what got me riled up. I got my money back ...eventually. Quote
desoto1939 Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 I have delt with Mitchell several times over the past 20+ years. He does not work alone. He has a crew of employees. Frank is a good guy. He donated money to my National Desoto Convention back in 1998. I would always suggest that you provide them with the part number to insure that you are getting the proper part. Remember they are working with items that might have been miss labeled by the original seller and then put into their parts locater system. These are not people that have forst hand experience with the parts especially if you are dealing with parts that are older then the person that is pulling the items. Try to give them the benefit of doubt and try to work out the issue. Mitchel was oroginally located in Ohio and then moved to Georgia. Call and ask fro Frank directly if you have an issue and do not act nasty this willnot solve the issue work together to solve the issue. We all make mistakes and try to rectify the issue for each other. we are humans and not robots. Rich Hartung Quote
40phil41 Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 I may be hallucinating (again) but I thought that Mitchell's was sold several years ago but still carries the Mitchell's name. Anybody know for sure? Phil Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 He tried to sell it for two or three million, and nobody bought. So Frank still runs it......just asks plenty for his stuff. At least that's what I understand. Quote
knuckleharley Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 I've bought stuff from them several times in the last couple of years, and the parts were always as advertised, but very pricey. No real problem with the price because if you don't like it you don't have to buy it. My problem has always been with their attitude. No matter if you are a established customer or not, they will only look for 5 parts at a time. You call them, give them the parts numbers for 5 parts, and they call you back the next day with the prices if they have the parts. Then you can give them another 5 parts numbers. This pisses me off more than the high prices because I hate wasting my time as much as they do. I want to find a part and get a price for it,not wait a day to find out if they even have it. Still, when they do have the parts they provide a 1st class service. They don't jerk you around. You give them your credit card number and it's in the mail the next day. IMHO,they are crazier than rabid rats with their "we only look for 5 parts" attitude, but a lot of times they have been the only ones that had the part I needed at that time,so I am willing to put up with them if I can't find the parts anywhere else. Plymouthy Adams Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 I can unserstand the need to limit to 5..can you imagine a guy calling in to price about 30 items to overhaul an engine and then not buy anything..that is a lot of time on their part..as I say a good arguement but I probably would not be happy with that either... Yeah,I can agree with that. Up to a point. That point is reached when it is a repeat customer that has bought from you several times. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 Here's one of Mitchell's offerings currently on ebay.........$99.95 starting price. If he's gonna sell it, he's gonna make something on it. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 Well...........at least he doesn't make you come in and look for the parts. We use to have an old time place here too. Building was about a block square and 5 stories high. The building itself (an old industrial building) had to be about 100 years old. When you got there the guy would tell you he thinks it's maybe on the 3rd floor for example' date=' about the middle section of the floor. Then he has someone take you up to the 3rd floor on the freight elevator and drop you off. The guy who took you there, then goes back down to the basement store area. You look out into the very large open floor and there are nothing but shelves everywhere almost to the ceiling. So.........you go to the middle and start rooting through all the stuff until you find what you wanted, if it's even there at all. I did find a lot of sets of the old plaid seatcovers up there one day. However, there were none for my coupe. That was before I bought my interior kit. Anyway, if you find your part you then rang the bell to have him send the elevator back up to get you. Go back downstairs, mortgage your house and buy the part. Once I found a brand new NOS P15 hubcap there. Was hanging on the wall in the store behind the counter. Ask how much and he calmly said $100, so I left it hanging there. Use to be called Wizzy's. I'm sure the guys from the Milwaukee area all know about the place, and maybe some older guys in the hobby. Use to advertise in Old Cars Weekly all the time too. However, it's now gone. He sold out to someone. Sold the building, then a developer came in and tore it down, then built new condo's in that whole two block area.Point is. Even if Mitchell does take a little while to find your part and charge a lot. At least he's still around so you can get that part if really needed. Finally remembered what I bought from him. Bought a new water distribution tube and a new leather clutch fork boot from him when I was rebuilding my engine back in 1998.[/quote'] B S Wiznewski's? Wasn't that what it was called at one time?
