Don't know why not, Just be careful of sparks!

It is original MOPAR equipment and that is the right number. I have a brand new one still in the box and complete that I am saving for my Dodge D25 Coupe. I am waiting until I get the car painted either this winter or next before I put it on. I bought it probably 10 years ago and paid $100+ for it then. They ain't cheap unless you can find a deal and make sure everything is there that should be. No sparks involved as it works as an electro-magnet.

Hi Maurice,

The electric locking gas cap was a Mopar accessory for the 49 models.

I have one on my P15.

It's a great fit, works perfectly and looks good.

Just some misc. pic's of these gas caps. Mopars were not the only cars using these electric caps. I have a couple different styles of them-they are quite unique though!

I don't know how common they are, but I bought one for my 47 about 10 years ago. The kit includes wiring that goes to a pushbutton located at the bottom of the dashboard.

My last P-15, 40 years ago, had a electric gas cap on it. As a kid I remember just waiting for the service station attendent reaching for the cap, and I would flip it open. Sometimes they would jump back, and ask me how it opened by it's self. You had to really watch it though because some guy's would grab it and try to un screw it....... I ordered a new one today for more FUN!!!!! MW

When I was a kid, our family car was a P15. It had one of those caps. Dad needed to get gas, but the cap quit working and refused to open. I found out then that a claw hammer makes an effective electric gas cap removal tool:eek:

The cap was sold as new in box. It was listed on ebay, I don't know if the guy has any more. I will ask. Maurice

A guy named Terry Hoeman had several (a case or more) of these NOS caps-was selling them on the bay-don't know his EB name . Think there is one other guy who had a couple cases of them too. Prices stalled out at around $100-$125.00. I Think they think they are worth more so they don't keep trying on the E-Pay right now. $100.00 is a fair price I think for a mint NOS cap! They are unique.

..That's a nice looking Edmunds manifold.I'm surprised he has a brass plug inserted in the manifold rather than steel. This is generally not advisable as over a period of time the aluminum threads will disappear due to electrolysis

Yup...that's my stuff...had planned on putting it on the '50 Plymouth, but I need to raise some funds for body work.

Good point on the brass fitting...I just put it in there a few months ago, and the manifold is unused so I'm not real worried about it...threads still look good, but will look into getting a steel plug.

I also have the parts & pictures of the parts (electric gas cap, NOS MoPar Accessory Fog Lights, and MoPar Automatic battery filler) in the parts section of this forum.

Thanks!

I have one in the garage if anyone is interested, I just have to find it. Was NOS when I bought it, but I went with a Hagen fuel door as one of the body mods.

It's been my experience that steel and aluminum don't get along.

...interesting that Edmunds used a steel pipe for coolant when his manifolds...
