maurice wade Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Doe's anyone know if the Snap up gas cap # 1302472 will fit on a 47 P-15. I think this is a Mopar original equipment. Thanks for any help. MW Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Don't know why not, Just be careful of sparks! Bob Quote
RobertKB Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 It is original MOPAR equipment and that is the right number. I have a brand new one still in the box and complete that I am saving for my Dodge D25 Coupe. I am waiting until I get the car painted either this winter or next before I put it on. I bought it probably 10 years ago and paid $100+ for it then. They ain't cheap unless you can find a deal and make sure everything is there that should be. No sparks involved as it works as an electro-magnet. Quote
maurice wade Posted June 1, 2009 Author Report Posted June 1, 2009 Thanks, Robert that is the the information I wanted to hear. MW Quote
Robin (UK) Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Hi Maurice, The electric locking gas cap was a Mopar accessory for the 49 models. I have one on my P15. It's a great fit, works perfectly and looks good. Picture below... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 The electric locking cap goes back further than that, my 47 Dodge TS Special has one stock from the factory...they are unique..I picked up another at a swap meet just a bit back..extremely nice unit.. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 Just some misc. pic's of these gas caps. Mopars were not the only cars using these electric caps. I have a couple different styles of them-they are quite unique though! Bob Quote
Andydodge Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 I've never seen or heard of these sort of gas caps........were they common?.........how do they lock/unlock?........we just have the key ones downunder..........thanks, andyd Quote
martybose Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 I've never seen or heard of these sort of gas caps........were they common?.........how do they lock/unlock?........we just have the key ones downunder..........thanks, andyd I don't know how common they are, but I bought one for my 47 about 10 years ago. The kit includes wiring that goes to a pushbutton located at the bottom of the dashboard. Marty Quote
Andydodge Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 Thanks Marty, as mentioned I'd never heard of them, .......you learn something every day......thanks, andyd Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 I think they kinda go for big prices on e-pay. Quote
maurice wade Posted June 4, 2009 Author Report Posted June 4, 2009 My last P-15, 40 years ago, had a electric gas cap on it. As a kid I remember just waiting for the service station attendent reaching for the cap, and I would flip it open. Sometimes they would jump back, and ask me how it opened by it's self. You had to really watch it though because some guy's would grab it and try to un screw it....... I ordered a new one today for more FUN!!!!! MW Quote
Frank Elder Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 Nos or modern manufacture Maurice? I wouldn't mind having one myself. Quote
maurice wade Posted June 5, 2009 Author Report Posted June 5, 2009 The cap was sold as new in box. It was listed on ebay, I don't know if the guy has any more. I will ask. Maurice Quote
Oldguy48 Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 When I was a kid, our family car was a P15. It had one of those caps. Dad needed to get gas, but the cap quit working and refused to open. I found out then that a claw hammer makes an effective electric gas cap removal tool:eek: Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 The cap was sold as new in box. It was listed on ebay, I don't know if the guy has any more. I will ask. Maurice A guy named Terry Hoeman had several (a case or more) of these NOS caps-was selling them on the bay-don't know his EB name . Think there is one other guy who had a couple cases of them too. Prices stalled out at around $100-$125.00. I Think they think they are worth more so they don't keep trying on the E-Pay right now. $100.00 is a fair price I think for a mint NOS cap! They are unique. Bob Quote
maurice wade Posted June 12, 2009 Author Report Posted June 12, 2009 Got time to install the elec. cap today. It took about one hour to do. The cap looks wonderful, big and chrome. MW Quote
dezeldoc Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 A guy on the hamb has one for sale along with a very nice set on factory Mopar fog lights and a automatic battery filler. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=370018 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=370021 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=370016 Here is a bitchen Edmonds 2x2 manifold with 2 94's http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=370031 Quote
T120 Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 ..That's a nice looking Edmunds manifold.I'm surprised he has a brass plug inserted in the manifold rather than steel. This is generally not advisable as over a period of time the aluminum threads will disappear due to electrolysis Quote
HalfdollarMayflower Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 (edited) Yup...that's my stuff...had planned on putting it on the '50 Plymouth, but I need to raise some funds for body work. Good point on the brass fitting...I just put it in there a few months ago, and the manifold is unused so I'm not real worried about it...threads still look good, but will look into getting a steel plug. I also have the parts & pictures of the parts (electric gas cap, NOS MoPar Accessory Fog Lights, and MoPar Automatic battery filler) in the parts section of this forum. Thanks! Howard Tarnoff Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 I have one in the garage if anyone is interested, I just have to find it. Was NOS when I bought it, but I went with a Hagen fuel door as one of the body mods. Quote
dezeldoc Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 You don't have to worry about the brass it is fine. Quote
old woolie Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 It's been my experience that steel and aluminum don't get along. Quote
T120 Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 (edited) It's been my experience that steel and aluminum don't get along. ...interesting that Edmunds used a steel pipe for coolant when his manifolds... Edited June 12, 2009 by Ralph D25cpe Quote
