Howdy all. I just wanted to share a neat video of an event the Mrs and I went to on Saturday. The 1942 L.A. Air Raid at Fort MacArthur. We drove up to Long Beach in the 39 Plymouth.. 2 hours on 80+ mph(not for me anyway) highways...the drive was nice...but a little hot outside. We cruised at 65/70 most of the time. The car performed beautifully, even though I was Nervous as a horse at the glue factory. Not really any traffic either. But we left at 10:30 am, I wanted to leave earlier so as to not be driving in the hottest part of day. It was about 75 degrees that day. I figured out that I got 20+ Miles Per Gallon. NOT BAD! That OD was a dream. My tires however really made it an intense driving experience. Radials might be a better idea...but I RARELY even go on highways and drive at those speeds...just not fun anyway. 55 is just fine with me!:D

The event was GREAT. Got to see a lot of old friends and make new ones too. I finally got to see my friend Tim's 39 Dodge. It was a sight for sore eyes, such a swell automobile. We had a row of mopars! My 39 Ply, Tim's 39 Dodge, a Benny's 37 Ply, Rob's 46 P-15 and a new friend's GORGEOUS P-15. There was also a 42 Chevy...but it broke down on the way...no fuel filter...clogged up the works and flooded. We pushed it in after it was towed to the event. HEH...you can imagine the jokes goin' around...with all the Mopars there in fine running condition and the ground-up resto chevy breaking down. It's a real great looking car anyway. Well, here's a link to a movie someone took.

You can see us a few times and pretty clearly at 1:46 into the

video...we didn't know it was a video camera...and didn't really know the guy

filming, kinda weird when the guy took a couple snapshots and then asked for a Victory kiss... surprised us to see it on film.

Hmm I just watched it. Strange. Good except of course there were no P15s in 1942 :)

I'm getting the same message that Tod did. No longer available.

I just tried again and the video now works for me. Some sort of YouTube weirdness I guess. Looks like a fun event. If I still lived in the LA metro area it would be on the list of things to do.

My father was stationed in LA during the air raid before he shipped out to Pearl Harbor. He told us about the air raid and how his unit stayed at the Los Angeles colloseum. JohnS

It was my first time there and I had a great time, as well as meeting some nice people! Found it to be quite refreshing from the usual rockabilly shows I used to go to. The girls are prettier too...not all tatted up. I truly do need to spruce up on my swing dancing though. :)

That is a great shot. I was very happy to finally get my Dodge out to an event... and this one ended up being a great car show, by sheer chance.

A CHP officer stopped us on the way; questioned me about my YOM plates, and basically just wanted to what 3 wwii uniformed Marines were doing in a 39 dodge in san pedro.

I've been stopped by a local police officer before, but never questioned about my plates. I don't even put the 2009 sticker on a tab above the plate. I figure if they aren't worried about it, why should I be.
