I've heard a lot of you guys rave about Sonic Burgers over the years. Well.......guess I'll just have to give the place a try. Guess we have one that is opening up this week someplace down by Miller Park. May give it a try when it gets a little warmer out. Just hope they are not "Grease Burgers".

Norm they are about to break ground on one down the street a few blocks from me too. I'm looking forward to giving it a try too.

...and would rate it; better than all the major chains, but not nearly as good as the mom and pop burger joints around here. Just my opinion...

They aren't all that bad' date=' when I was in Oklahoma visiting my son and his wife we stopped at the one in Elgin, Ok. Just as good as the rest of the fast food burger places[/quote']

Hmmmmmmmm.........that's not saying much. I can't think of any fast food joint where I like their hamburgers, except White Castle. And, I can only take a few of those per year.

Norm.......please feel free, when visiting White Castle, to take my

portion of burgers. I tried em, but didn't much like em.

We have Sonic's all over the place here......they're OK, but I don't

go there very often. We have a strictly local place called Babe's

that I like. One of their offerings is a double patty thing called the

Chubby Cheese burger. We also have another local called Stogeys.

Just as good as Babe's. Plus we have many of the chain joints.

Not hard to find a burger, but there are a couple of "better" places

to my tastes.

I like to make the occasional run here. we used to have an awesome place called Nans but it closed. Also have a place called flame burger thats great.

Sonic Burgers isn't anything special. It's your typical stereotyped, overdone, wannabe 50's drive in. They can't even get the car hops right. The food...nothing to brag about. Sorry guys...I had a bad experience with them and it didn't leave a good impression with me.

I miss my Burger King! While Sonic is no shining star, it is a decent fast food place fillin' a niche. Better selection than most places. Consistent quality such as it is.

Before the Sonic here in Trenton had its nasty kitchen fire (and closed), it was the best burger in town. Service was a whole other story...

My other choices are McDonald's and Hardee's. Hardee's was great when I was in high school and college, but they took a nose dive in quality along with higher prices a few years ago. I think it's about the same time that Carl's Jr. bought them out.

Rumours persist that the Sonic here in Trenton has been bought by a new owner who intends to raze the site and put up a Wendy's. Given my other choices, Wendy's would be an improvement.

I've gotten to the point where the novelty of eating food while sitting in my P15 has passed. It used to be fun when a cute carhop would ooh and ahh about how cool my car was. While the car is just as cool, maybe more so now, the cute carhops have become fewer and the comments have decreased. :(

I usu. just park the car close to a picnic table and eat outside now. I'm practicing for the day when I have a nice new upholstery. :D

Burger King..McDonalds...guess you wish you had your acne back...my goodness man..get a grip..to be honest with you I have no idea wheer to get a half decent take out burger unless it be Wendy's..nothing spectular there either..only that they are a consistent quality...(???)

Sonic food is so-so in my opinion. Best thing about them is one of the local ones (we have 6 here in the Boro) has a 1/2 price night for the local hot rod club of which I am a member. Not only is the food 1/2 price but they give a ten buck gift card to the first 10 or so cars to arrive. This equates to free food and that makes it really good. However like Tim I would go to Wendys first

I got hooked on sonics smoothies last summer, pretty good for the price.I'll agree with David on the bugers, those mom and pop places are hard to beat.

I usually find the best burgers at the local bar and grills. I do like sonic, but I like they coney dogs probably the best. Grilled chicken sandwich isn't bad either. Chili pies are always good too, a lot of there stuff is a bit overpriced in my opinion, but what isn't anymore.

I normally agree with you cats...however Sonic is the place to be! I love everything about that spot. I can't get enough of it.:)

Ok, I don't have one with in 100 miles of here however when I am in Wilson NC I go to the one around the corner from our Hotel. I took the Ford there and the wife and I had a date. We went that morning and came back thaat night. It was so great like when we use to car date in the 70's We ate until we could not eat any more. It was down right fun.

White castle was my father and I favorite place. I wish I could go to one just one more time. I have very fond memories of that place in my dads 1957 ford convert. Wow real nice Aug2118.jpg

I remember Porky's well. Back in the 70's and 80's I would spend a week at a time (about every 5 to 6 weeks) in St. Paul visiting and working with the salesmen in our sales office. It was located just about 1/2 or 1 mile west of Porkys on University Ave. Never actually went to Porkys but sometimes one of the guys would go to Porkys and bring the food back to the office. Most of the time there was a nice sit down place between Porkys and the office and I would eat there. While on University Ave., there was also another small little place I use to eat breakfast at. Was just a little dinner on the south side of University Ave. (again west of Porkys) and only the owner behind the counter. No tables in the joint so you ate at the counter. That place was great for eggs and bacon or sausage in the morning. Just like home cooking there. Always found a place by the hotel for dinner. Always stayed out in Burnsville by I-35 and 694.

have you ever tried CULVERS. try a double butter burger..

bill

Bill, I go to Culvers often, but I've only had one Butter Burger. Too much grease in those things for me. The grease oozes through the bun and the hamburger slides off the bun as you eat it. I only eat Culvers Chicken or Fish.

We're supposed to be getting a Culver's before long in Webb City, a

small town just at the north edge of Joplin. They are putting up a

new building on the corner of the parking lot at a new strip mall.

Right across from a McDonalds. Down the main Webb City drag of

Madison Ave, there are also Sonic, Burger King and Wendy's plus other

sorts of eaterys.

Back to Joplin, there's also the local favorite for "spaghetti red" called

Fred & Reds. Has only a horseshoe type counter for seating. You just

gotta stand around and wait for a seat or two to become vacant. The

owner ships bricks of his chili all over the country.

This is probably one of the last, original greasy spoons on old Route 66 in California. It's called Norma Jean's Holland Burger and it's located just out of Victorville on old Highway 66 on the way to Barstow (I'm sure Dennis is familiar with this place). It's been in existence since 1947 and it's world famous to Route 66 travelers with great, tasty food. No "Happy Days" malt shop look. No loud, bright neon lights overwhelming the inside. No reproduction Wurlitzer jukebox in the corner playing 1950's and 60's CD's. No waitresses dressed poodle skirts and poni-tails and chewing bubble gum. It's the real thing serving good old-fashioned American cooking...just like it used to be at very affordable and reasonable prices. No Sonic Burger, Legend's or Peggy Sue's can compete with this original greasy spoon. I'll let the pictures and info links explain the rest.

Guys, this is just not fair by any means. What I miss the most in US is the unbelievable variety of great junkf... no I mean fastfood and the prices. I just love that delicisious culture. We have zero places in our Village, and Mc Donalds just can't satisfy my sophisticated taste enough.

So it's either to kill this topic or send me your doggiebags with FeDex. Wish I was in Buffalo Wild Wings now, or even get the sauce here. But no.

I live 3 miles from the town of Clements, and 14 miles from Lodi, Ca. but because I'm on a "dividing road" I get a Lodi address. So I guess I can lay claim to being from the town of the original A&W. Great burgers and the owner is a hot rod guy for sure. I used to belong to American Steel, a local car club. They put on a hellva car show there in the streets and parking lots of downtown Lodi.

Looking at those pictures reminds me I got to go get my cholesteral checked.:) Nothing like a loaded burger made from real ground beef and real french fries, washed down with an ice cold beer. Lite beer of course, gotta watch the diet.:D Brendan.
