RobertKB Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 For the last several winters we really have had little real winter and I have been able to get my cars out and about throughout most winter months. Whenever we did have snow it was not much and disappeared quickly. This year we are having an old-fashioned Canadian winter and the roads are bad and lots and lots of snow. I doubt my cars will be out before April. So....just want to know who is in the same boat and who's not. For those of you able to drive your cars how about some up-to-date pictures. This is kind of like the thread Rodney Bullock had a while back but I doubt he sees the kind of snow and cold we have now. Good thing I bought an old '54 Canadian Dodge in the summer that I parted out and am now selling parts. It at least keeps me busy in the garage! Quote
greg g Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 mine is tucked away. Winter here means salt and lots of it. So much that even if we have a dry sunny spell, it still get into the air as dust. Plus there are so many cloudy days in the lee of Lake Ontario, the salt residue sucks the moisture out of the air and makes the roads wet when they shouldn't be. As is the case right now; Quote
aero3113 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 As long as it is dry out I try to take the Plymouth out once a week. Sometimes I skip a week or two but for the most part I go all year round. Quote
Normspeed Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Robert, a few days ago we had the first snow of the season. It was scary. Here's the view from my front door. The P24 took it all in stride though. It's my daily driver these days. Quote
aero3113 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Wow, How did you even get the front door open with all that snow? Quote
Normspeed Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 They didn't warn me about this when I was leaving California! Quote
Powerhouse Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 I drive it at least 5 days a week...but i'm in San Diego now...I used to drive it at least once a week in the winter. Took a while to warm up though back in New York. Quote
RobertKB Posted January 9, 2009 Author Report Posted January 9, 2009 Normspeed, I would love to see that amount of snow. I still say you are enjoying yourself way too much in retirement! Quote
makkelsay Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 id be driving mine if the starter was working:mad: Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 We've been having cold weather, but so far, not much snow this year. Last December we had a huge ice storm in this part of the country. The car only gets driven on occasional nice weekend days. Did take it just before Christmas for two days to a local church to use as a period prop for their 1940s musical program. Drove it on New Years eve at noon time to lunch at a local chili and spaghetti place. Then again on New Years Day to our local Elks Lodge for a helping of blackeyed peas and cornbread. So, the answer is -- it gets driven a little during the winter. Quote
dezeldoc Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 I would be if I was not so busy with a couple of Chevys:rolleyes: got a 57 and a 48 gotta get done. Quote
Jim Yergin Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Nice sunny but cold day yesterday and drove my car to and from a busines meeting. About 80 miles round trip. Weekend doesn't look so good so probably stay in the garage until next week. Jim Yergin Quote
Young Ed Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Not driving mine at all. Both are stashed away. One I have no access to at all and the other is 120 miles away. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Robert, a few days ago we had the first snow of the season. It was scary. Here's the view from my front door. The P24 took it all in stride though. It's my daily driver these days. Normspeed, you better get a blade on that tractor so you can plow all of that snow. Dennis:rolleyes: Quote
martybose Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 I drive mine every weekend that it isn't raining. But I suspect that most of you would say that we don't have a winter in the San Francisco area! Marty Quote
wills 51 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 I'll be pulling out the dodge and the desoto this weekend..... Quote
wallytoo Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 i drive mine all year. drove it to the transfer station (dump) this morning. outside temp was 8*. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 My truck is parked for the winter. I'm currently working on getting some insulation and interior in it, along with a heater. It would be a bit chilly to be driving it right now without heat. Merle Quote
captden29 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 since i moved to north carolina i drive mine all year. used to put it away in ny, too much salt on the road. the car club i belong to meets every wed. nite for a meal so the old car goes to that, and i take it to the gym about every other day, and then sometimes just to drive it.always seems to need some kind of repair, but then it would be worse not driving it.in the summer it is so hot that i drive it less, but i have a boat to take it's place. dennis Quote
hkestes41 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 I am in the Dallas area so we have only had a couple dustings of snow. My 48 is driven every day during the week unless I am traveling for buisness. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Mine has not been driven since about mid November. Put a new battery in it on 12/29 and started it up in the garage for awhile. Hasn't been started since. It's been snowing almost every other day since the first of December around here. Getting another 6 - 8 inches between this morning and tomorrow noon now. Dennis (Captden29), How fast can you drive (pilot) your boat down the road, when it takes the place of your car in the summer? Quote
moparjack44 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Drive the DeSoto every chance I get. Went out a while yesterday, got caught in a small, quick dusting of snow. Only lasted a few minutes. Jack Quote
Johnny S Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 I'm generally out and about every few weeks during the winter. Had a nice 30 minute drive yesterday. Everything else gets started once a month at least during the winter. Quote
Don Coatney Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 I drive my car every chance I get when I am home. Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Hi all, just went for a 2 mile ride down my road, it is around 0 to -4 f in my locale today, sunny and no wind. The car ran great, heat not bad either, consdiering I have no interior in the car, no inulation or cloth except for the front seat. The car ran nice, rode nice, I could have easily went for a longer riode, but there is no salt on my road, but here is salt on the highways, plus I am in winter storage insurance right now, so, I could not venture too far, just down to one of the neighbours and back. I have not driven on the road since about November 1st, I reall miss not driving the Coupe at least once per week, and sometimes daily in summer......Fred Quote
