Young Ed Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Pulled the battery out of the wreckage and found it still works. So something else must have broken to keep the lights from working etc. Hope its not a battery cable-with the price of copper a new battery might be cheaper! Also got my spare radiator refurb'ed. John Mulders Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Ed, stop drinking so much coffee (Maxwell). That is causing the shakes visible through the quality of the pics John Still have to get used to your new name! Quote
Young Ed Posted October 23, 2008 Author Report Posted October 23, 2008 I don't drink coffee and I didn't take the picture. The G/F took it for me(jeez you can't trust them to do anything-good thing she isn't here to read this) Quote
RobertKB Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Ed, glad to see your Plymouth coupe is back on the road to recovery. How is the search going for the rest of the parts? Quote
Young Ed Posted October 23, 2008 Author Report Posted October 23, 2008 Pretty good. I've got everything tracked down its just a matter of getting it home now. I'm meeting up with Mike H from this site. He and I shared a parts car last fall and he kept the front clip. So after this weekend I should have at least the radiator U support piece and I can start rebuilding the front clip. I already had all 4 inner fender panels in my garage and 2 extra hoods. So I think its mostly found. Only pieces I may still have to find/buy would be the bigger stainless bars. I have the little ones already. Also there is a guy up north in MN that will sell me the front clip off his parts car. Dad sold the 50 chevy we've been working on and as soon as that gets picked up the coupe goes into his garage for work. Quote
RobertKB Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I am glad to hear things are going so well after what was a bad accident. Your perseverance will pay off with the old girl back on the road and a grin on your face. Is insurance covering any of the cost of the repair? Do you have any lingering effects from the accident? Quote
Young Ed Posted October 23, 2008 Author Report Posted October 23, 2008 So far insurance is covering 0 but part of that is because I chose not to claim it against my own ins. I am still trying to get $ out of the other guy. No lingering effects. I never really got sore or anything. Lucky! Quote
RobertKB Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Glad to hear you are well. Good luck getting money from the other party. Some people are decent about it but with others it's like getting blood from a stone! Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I've learned my lesson about trying to get money from someone else's insurance. After the last incident I decided that I pay a lot of good money for my insurance, I'll just claim it on my own and let them get the money back. Even if my rates go up, it is just not worth the hassle. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Insure it with Guido...(not to be confused with the lizard personality) Guido is know for knee cap removals.. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Ed, I agree with Jim. You paid for the insurance to protect you in case of an accident. Well.........you had the accident, so it's now time for them to pay you. If you aren't going to use that insurance in a time like this, why pay for it. You could get away with just liability insurance and save the cost for comprehensive and collision, if you don't use it. Quote
Young Ed Posted October 23, 2008 Author Report Posted October 23, 2008 The reason I haven't claimed it is because it specifically says not for work use and thats what I was doing. Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 The reason I haven't claimed it is because it specifically says not for work use and thats what I was doing. Young Ed; Do you not work on P-15, D-24 club related issues daily at the location where you go everyday? Driving to the place where you work on these club related issues should be covered. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Ed..even if you were on the way to work per say does not mean that you did not have an oil change to get that moring at the local jiffy lube...my insurance agent always said that the oil needs changed or I had to drive it to town to get the tires check for vibration... Quote
JohnS48plm Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Ed, I hope you didn't damage the wiper knob I sent you. John Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 I have that clause too. But..........like the others said, you could always come up with a good reason for driving it to work. Quote
Young Ed Posted October 24, 2008 Author Report Posted October 24, 2008 Alright will have to investigate that. Here's a better pic taken by me. She's fired from camera duty. Quote
John Mulders Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 great work on the picture Hope the rest also goes well. John Quote
Merle Coggins Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 The reason I haven't claimed it is because it specifically says not for work use and thats what I was doing. Driving your vehicle to work is not using it for work. Using a vehicle for work means using it to make sales calls on customers, or using it to haul business related products, or other use for performing business related acts. Driving to work is still personal use. Merle Quote
steveplym Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 I reviewed my policy with Hagerty and in the exclusions it does say you cannot use it for work. So if you were a pizza delivery guy or newspaper delivery guy you could not use it for that. Most insurance companies have that exclusion in their personal auto policies. You would have to get a commercial auto policy for that. What it didn't say is that you cannot drive it to and from work specifically. It does say it is to be used infrequently and for club activities, car shows, etc. Maintenance and test drives are not off limits though. I have antique plates with the state of IL and it does note in their paperwork you cannot drive the licensed car to work or school. I know people that do though. Quote
Young Ed Posted October 27, 2008 Author Report Posted October 27, 2008 Picked up some great goodies. Many Many thanks to Mike Halek for the parts. Quote
Young Ed Posted October 27, 2008 Author Report Posted October 27, 2008 Then on sunday a little repair work began. Fixed the mounting flange on one of the fenders. Here's the inprogress with the rusty part removed. And after the repair. Quote
Frank Elder Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 I see you managed to score the o so rare flexible battery hold down unit....lol! Quote
Young Ed Posted October 27, 2008 Author Report Posted October 27, 2008 HAHA I used it for exactly that about a month ago when my dakota battery died and the hold down broke. Got me home I must say. Quote
RobertKB Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 Ed, great to see you making steps towards the goal of repairing your car. A few steps gets one job done and a whole bunch of steps gets it repaired to where it was. Eventually you will have travelled so far the car is totally restored. Seems like a long way but it will happen! Even before you are POC president!! Quote
