Don Coatney Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 the soon to be wife wants me to put wide white walls on the car. Does it matter what we think:rolleyes: Quote
Frank Elder Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Do what your wife tells you, after all she has been planning her wedding since around 5th grade or so. She won't remember what you did to help, but she will always remember what you fought over before the wedding! I wish someone had told me I was just going to be in the wedding and not to think I had an opinion on it! FRANKIE47 PS Been with Esmey 30 years married for 22, very happy! Quote
wills 51 Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 No Doubt, I think they always look better with the wider whites... Quote
Alexander Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Hands down, it will make a huge difference! Quote
Young Ed Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Just for some comparison I thought I had a closer up shot of this car but I guess not..... Quote
49plymouthdotcom Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I vote for WWW. Here's mine. Besides, she just gave you permission to buy tires! Quote
blueskies Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Here's a couple of pics of my '50 with tires like yours (on the car now) and WWWs that were previously on the car. Hit reload on your browser if the pics don't show up... No question in my mind which looks better on my car... WWWs Pete Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 I like the wide whites, but prefer the 2 1/2 inch (or so) rather than the real wide 4 inchers. Just depends upon which strikes your fancy. Probably could get some from Coker Tire Co. That's where these came from - Firestone reproductions. http://www.cokertire.com/ Quote
RobertKB Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Same as Bob. I prefer the 2 1/2 inch whitewalls. Quote
Alexander Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Nice wheels Bob! where did you pick up the Kelsey Hayes? May I ask what they cost? I sure would loved a set on my 51 coronet vert, but I understand they are very expensive. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Hay how come no curb feelers on any of these old Mopars? All I can see is sos and rubbing the blank out of the tires to get the scuff marks oft. Old Jon Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Just a thought about a nice wedding gift of wide tires for your old Mopar? I'm sure the new wife would rather have a set of tires than a toaster. Jon:) PS. You could send out your wedding invitations with a blank order form to help make up the minds of people who just don't know what to give you. Quote
CNP934DC Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Should look good on a '50 too. See the P-15 on my profile. Can't attch. File too large for the post. Quote
teardrop puller Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 CNP934DC I have used this resizing program for years with no problem. I save all my small photos in a file called "small" makes it easy to get to. Thy it you'll like it. http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm kai Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Kelsey Hayes never made stock wires for Mopar...(per POC documentation) Mopar wires were made by Motor Wheel Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Alexander, my wire wheels came off a 1955 Chrysler New Yorker two door hardtop sometime in the 1970s. Saw the car, which was kind of run down, sitting along a street. Left under the wiper a note that said call me if you ever decide to sell the car. A year or two later, he called and I bought it. Replaced the wires (there were 5) with stock steel wheels, messed with the car for a while, then sold it. I think the wheels actually cost me about $185 doing it that way. They're not perfect, but look good if you don't look real close. New ones are available today, but the cost is fairly high. At HobbyCar.com, 4 wheels with caps are $1600......link to ad: http://www.hobbycar.com/chrysler.html They are $2025 at cadillacworld......... http://www.cadillacworld.net/Chryslerkelseyhayeswheels.html (They evidently call them Kelsey-Hayes) $1800 at Rally America......http://www.rallyamerica.com/CRYSLseries.html Quote
aero3113 Posted September 15, 2008 Author Report Posted September 15, 2008 Thanks for all the pics guys, They do look good !!! Quote
greg g Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Well another cat just walked by....Tell her you need money for the tires, then go to the store and get some satin finish white exterior house paint. Paint the WWW's on pocket the difference for some more needed stuff, and then complain loke hell about the quality of the tires after the paint starts to come off, but it should last longenough for the wedding. Seen a couple done this way and they look decent when fresh. Or check this stuff. http://www.mbzponton.org/valueadded/other/tirepaint.htm http://www.mbzponton.org/valueadded/other/tirepaint/mb_tire_paint_tire2_zoom_Orn_Sigurdsson.gif Quote
